The BMW helmets are made by Schuberth, they are well known as usefull and well made opening face helmets. The model available now is the System 4.
From 1999, Schuberth is also producing an opening face helmet, the Concept.

The Schuberth Concept Helmet

Presented on the market after the BMW System 4, the Concept seams similar to his BMW cousin:
  • quality (of course, they are maede in the same factory);
  • easy to use (one-hand opening);
  • low wind noise level.

    It present some interresting and specific caracteristics:
  • an internal sun shield that you can flip on or of when riding... and that's really great!!!;
  • removable and washable internal lining;
  • a tag name window that can holds some first-aid info;
  • a reflective stipe on the rear (not a stiker on the helmet but a piece of fabric on the neck cover part);
  • a price a little bit lower than the BMW;
  • an electrical heated antifoging shield available as accessory (quite expensive).
    • But it's impossible to change it into a jet helmet or a moto cross helmet.

    The BMW System 4 Helmet

    System4 front and profil BMW System 4 Helmet makes 3 helmets out of one :
    This ideal helmet adjusts to your individual needs. The patented pivot disk (swivel) which simultaneously holds both the chin piece and visor (wind shield) makes it possible. In just a few seconds, without tools, you can quickly change it into a jet helmet or a moto cross helmet. The 3 possibilities : open face, full face & moto cross. Attention, it's impossible to do with the UK version of the helmet.
    High Tech Visor :
    Thanks to the three dimensional form you always have a clear view. Optical configuration of the visor makes for distortion free sight in all directions.

    Aerodynamics :
    The optimal air stream flow has made it certain that air resistance and wind noise, especially at higher speeds (200kph/120mph) have been reduced by 3 to 4 decibels over the old System 3 helmets. This guarantees safer riding even in critical situations (turning your head at 120mph).

    System4 opening One hand opening system. The opening mechanism with a 90 deg. lift on the chin piece moves with centrally located one hand operation. {2 hands needed with System 3)
    System4 different versions The opening face dirt-bike helmet, with the optional peak (helmet visor) in place of the face-shield, and the movable chin-bar stays in place.

    The open face helmet, with the eom shield or with the optional peak (helmet visor) and the option "cheek-cover" (jet helmet converter kit) used to hide the removed chin-bar fastening.

    System 4 Evolution:
    Summer 2001, BMW present an update of the System 4 helmet. Main difference vs. the earlier System 4 is the removable and washable liner. An expensive "Carbon" version (carbon and metalic grey color with yellow "Carbon" stikers) is also available.

    History of the BMW System helmet :

    System I
    SystemI and parts First opening face helmet from BMW. It can be transformed in an opening face dirt-bike helmet, with an optional peak (helmet visor).


    System II
    Evolution of the System I, that helmet is easy to recognise due to the "wafer" shape on the top. The new optional features are a heated antifoging shield and a clip-on sun shield (half sized shield that can be cliped on the main shield), an interresting and usefull accessories (default: you have to remove the helmet to clip it on).
    SystemII and parts SystemII helmet and parts:
    1. Shield bracket
    2. Shield
    3. Clip-on sun shield
    4. Heated antifoging shield
    5. Sun peak (helmet visor)


    System III and System III Evolution
    SystemIII and parts Basicaly, it's the same helmets except for the air cooling vents (easiest to use with gloves when riding on the latest version Evolution).
    Interresting features: Clip-on sun shield and possibility to modify it in 4 versions (see down).
    Default: Fogging!!! and no more heated shield :-(

    The different versions and optional parts of the BMW System III helmet :
    SystemIII closed and open The origin version : an opening face helmet (closed and open).
    SystemIII Dirt-bike The opening face dirt-bike helmet, with the option peak (BMW piece Nr. 01 29 9 797 128, helmet visor) in place of the face-shield, and the movable chin-bar stays in place.
    SystemIII open-face The open face helmet, with the option peak (BMW piece Nr. 01 29 9 797 128, helmet visor) and the option "cheek-cover" (BMW piece Nr. 01 29 9 797 129, jet helmet converter kit) used to hide the removed chin-bar fastening. You can place the face-shield in place of the peak.
