----------------------------

I was recently involved in a hit and run.

The guy hit another car, my car, then a tree on our property brought his vehicle to an abrupt stop. The guy ran, but left his car.

PD came out, made report, towed his dreck away.

Earlier that morning the same officer arrested this guy for a dui.

Now the question is, how do we go about finding out his insurance information. The arresting officer says the perp has insurance (or at least an insurance card).

All I have on my crash report is his name/addr/vehicle information (plate, vin), but nothing else. No phone #, no insurance information, etc.

I did a drive by to see if he had collected his car yet, the building he lives in looks quite run down - a dump (didn't know we had such dumps here in our town).

Anyways, I expect to pay $0 to get the repair done. I do have a $500 deductible, bu really am unsure if I want my insurance to pay the claim. Does my insurance have some way of finding out this information via his plate or VIN?
