Hard (impossible) to start

<<Battery is about 1.5 years old, but it was a Wal-Mart battery (all I could 
afford at the time).
I'm wondering if a gel battery will improve its chances.>>

I have a wal mart battery in my GPZ about 4 years now and its perfect. Do 
you keep it on a tender? I do all winter long and sometimes in the summer 
when I'm not using it.
