How badly did I screw up? (engine mount bolt)

You didn't screw up at all. The center bolt goes all the way through and you 
have to use a socket on both ends to keep it from spinning. 17mm, if memory 
serves. The bolt goes through the center of the ring nuts and hollow crankcase 
mount bolts, which won't be disturbed.

If your frame slider kit comes with one long bolt, it's the one that replaces 
the through bolt you tried to get out.
