I just took a blow torch and heated every other magnet one at a time until they exlpoded. There are six magnets and I took out three. I'm sure balance "could" be an issue but I've never had a problem with mine. YMMV and all...
If you don't need the charging system there are commercial options available that eliminate the magnets and also provide a much lighter stator. Hit me offlist if that would be applicable for you so I don't SPAM the list... :-)
