Compressing front suspension

I use a hydraulic jack under the engine, just at the oil filter boss
to lift the bike up so the tire is free. Then remove the fork caps
(carefully!) and lower the bike until supported by the front wheel. No
effort, no drama. Obviously i can do it without calling a group of
