Problems: Too much free play on the twist grip fixed at first service. Two bolts came slack on the sub frame to mainframe and fell out 1 week after 4000-mile service. Fork seals leaking to be fixed under warranty. 05.10.01 Found hairline crack on frame on the near side rail next to fuel tank. 12.10.01 Kawasaki have replaced frame without any problems. Also replaced gear linkage and two decals on fairing.
Comments:
Last year had a zx9 B4; this y2K model is fantastic. Just got past the 600 miles and it is ballistic! I can’t believe the difference from the old one. Fantastic handling (footpegs getting ground away and it has not been on the track yet!)

Problems: Slow up to 3500 rpm and then clears it throat and shoots for the horizon.
Comments:
Want to buy airflow screen for the longer than usual rides and hugger to keep the back end clean. I just love the the kick from 8000rpm and the sound that goes with it!! Mileage is high but still soo sweet 145bhp on back wheel

Bikes Owned: 3
Accessories: Joe Rocket tank bag. Double Bubble dark smoke windscreen.
Modifications: Full titanium Muzzy exhaust and factory jet kit.
Problems: Muzzy exhaust header doesn't fit correctly. Pipe is touching both the fan and the oil filter! Not good! Sending back to Muzzy to be either fixed or replaced......New header from Muzzy fits fine...getting jetted and dynoed next week. Can't wait to ride this thing again. Full Exhaust from Muzzy is LOUD (in a good way of course)!......9/3/02 Bike is back from dyno-tuning! Awesome results: "145bhp and 72lbs torque". New found power is smooth and crazy. When accelerating hard the rear tire wants to break loose and has done so more than once.
Comments:
Bike has incredibly smooth power band and becomes an absolute rocket ship after 6k RPM's! All of the changes this year have made a huge improvement over previos models. Steering is quicker and more precise and the motor finally has some engine braking. This ride is everything I wanted so far. Love the gold color when the sun hits it!

Accessories: Tinted Screen Xenon headlight bulb (blindingly bright especially with high beam on)
Modifications: 15 tooth front sprocket K&N air filter
Problems: Getting the ducktail open. Keys were getting bent. Serviced but still a bit difficult to open. Previous owner had gearbox replaced under warranty with another from a 1999 model. Still get the odd false neutral between 4th and 5th. Really annoying when it happens.
Comments:
A real jack of all trades. Not the fastest but fast enough. An excellent pillion machine for those that must. Very comfortable for those long trips - especially taller riders (like me.) Great fuel economy especially compared to Suzis, but wish Kwaka would introduce fuel injection. Very solid engine and frame. 16000kms since I purchased it and its limits are still way above mine but I am getting there. Grips the road heaps better once I had the old D207's replaced. Much more confidence inspiring. My first big bore bike and will be keeping for a long long time. Want to get the rims fully chromed as it looks huge.

Problems: None so far, fingers crossed.
Comments:
Pain in the arse getting to oil filter, felt a bit wobbly when i got up to 160mph, might adjust suspension or possibly upgrade. Carbs went back out of sync within a week of the thing being serviced.Minor gripes rather than problems. Always wanted ZX9R, well happy with it. Would like a newer one but can't afford it at the moment.
For Sale: Not selling, but maybe interested in purchasing spares. Could do with paddock stands or possibly Abba type for swingarm if your selling.

Bikes Owned: 3
Accessories: Stock everything. Since I layed it down on the freeway I almost have all crash damage replaced, basically the whole left side. I added a rear tire hugger, green of course and will get a Scotts steering dampner before returning to the street.
Modifications: None, bike has more then enough power to get my driver license suspended in quick order. With the the stock pipe it helps a bunch to keep the bike quite for when the "mann" pulls up next to you at a light or on the freeway.
Problems: I would love to see a fuel gauge, the most I got out of a tank is 143 miles after I went thru the reserve. Also the seat hurts my ass after about 45 minutes. A stop at Corbin will solve that!
Comments:
The mann gets real pissed when you go by him at 127 M.P.H. I tried to tell him the bike was just cruising but he didn't want to hear it. If you get pulled over at that speed it's a $657 dollar fine, two 6 hour days in a level 2 traffic school and 3 points on the license in California. The officer told me "if you didn't pull over I had two BMW CHP bikes waiting for you at the 15 intechange and you would have been going to jail" like they would have caught me if I wanted to juice 'em. Screw them if they can't take a joke! Don't get me wrong I am very pro law enforcement, but "can't we all just get along!"

Problems: After the install of the exhaust went through approximately 30-40 carb adjustments to fix the hole below 3.5K Nothing worked. With the addition of the advancer and #40 pilots it is almost unnoticeable and power is great. Thank you Ivan and Factory, oops can't forget Hindle!
Comments:
Little heavy steering, drop the tubes and jack up the preload for a quicker and more agile bike,

Terrific motorcycle. Far more confidence inspiring than either of the Honda CBR 600s (an '88 Hurricane and a '98 CBR F3) I've owned previously. If you break hard while leaned, expect the bike to try and stand up on you! This bike is, however, absolutely a dream come true.

Problems: The only thing that has broken was the small return spring on the clutch actuator lever on the cover of clutch side of case.I removed cable and cover to replace but I think you gan simply pull the lever out without removing the cover the nice thing about it was that I was able to clean out the break-in particles of the clutch material that would otherwise stay trapped inside.
Comments:
Only DEATH,Theft,or a total, can ever seperate me from this bike!!!!!!!!!! This is Quite possibly the best all around motorcycle KNOWN to Man. I'm 43 years old and plan on keeping this bike as long as i'm able to ride and then passing it down to my children or Grandchildren GOD willing. Alot of our following have commented on false neutrals me too TRY THIS on upshift's be absolutely SURE that you drop your foot completely down away from the shift lever before going up to the next gear. This WILL help but you still have to avoid lazy shifts it 's going to happen you just have to keep reminding yourself to minimize.

Problems: None- superclean, assembled and maintenanced by myself.
Comments:
This bike is such a great change from the latter years 94-97. The tailsection is 1 piece, no wires and coils since the coils are the plug caps. The lines and ease of reaching items on the bike have been simplified. The only bad or stupid changes made from 98-99 to 00-01 were 1. enlargening the wheel axles, and the swingarm pivot (what's the point besides raising costs and having to re-engineer pieces?) lengthing the bottom engine bolt by an inch, and shrinking the top triples bearing size drastically. Personally the engineer that thought those changes should be made should be drawn and quartered between 9R's. Honestly is a 5mm difference in size going to add that much performance to your swingarm pivot? Didn't think so.

Problems: When I drive in the 3e gear from zero to maximum power my bike makes problems. At 3000rpm and 5000 rpm it feels like the chain slips (just for a second). However, if it is the chain, it should slip whenever I pull hard on the gas, and especially in the high torque zone. I think it is the gearbox (but I hope not). Is there someone who recognizes this problem?
