Modifications:
Heli 3/4" risers. K&N air filter. Otherwise, the bike remains in stock condition. Have replaced the rubber with new Metzler ME55A tires, plus a new chain... sprockets are fine.
Problems:
The bike is on the cold-blooded side, though I live in one of the coldest parts of the States and will ride except when there is snow on the ground. However, the carbs are probably getting close to needing a Sync-job.
Comments:
This bike lives up to its legendary reputation; e.g. loads of power, great handling, extremely reliable and easy to maintain. The crankcase is tight... and the tranmission is as one would expect from this breed, requiring a stiff pull to get you from 1st to 2nd, otherwise, just fine. This bike is in fabulous condition, has always been adult-owned & garaged. I am its second owner.
For Sale:
For Sale: I am in the market for another bike with a bit more touring, a little less sport, and a few more amenities that will keep the Mrs., on the happy side. Unfortunately, I can't afford two bikes at this time. Over $1,200 in accessories come with the bike... plus the stock windscreen and saddle. Pictures available upon request. Asking $3,995 OBO (US dolllars). I can be reached at:rambrookian@yahoo.com

I tried an ignition advancer, but could not tell the difference in performance.
Problems:
Warped front brake rotors, fork seal leak, broken shift lever pivot shaft, clogged air bleeds in carburator.
Comments:
The Progressive fork springs were the best change for the money. If you have an FJ with stock springs, change them! The rim change was a fun project, and well worth the cost and effort. I have kept all my original parts in case the next owner wants a stock FJ1200. Come ride the Rockies; the best roads in the USA!

Problems:
Bought it secondhand, former owner used it very little. So after 600 km's with no problems, it would not start all the time, and when in time it would not start at all. Brought it to the shop and after a lot of searching, it appeared that it shortcircuited and also had a short in one of the E-boxes (grrr, have a Guzzi too, what a lovely simple bike to work on). After that, also the carbs were clogged because of gum of old gasoline (too little used). Cleaning, but now it runs bad when cold, not higher than 3.000 rpms. when warm it's over.
Comments:
My first japanese 4 cilinder in 25 years. But what a beast! and i love that torque. and the power is addictive. hmmm, what vtwin can resemble that.... have to save some more. here in holland a nice FJ1200 is very affordable to buy, but mileage was 1:12,5 km/liter. and gas is about $ 1,75/liter, say $ 7,50/gallon.

Problems:
Lost power to a front rh blinker. Wire in loom around steering head had parted company. Not a difficult fix, but assume I'll lose others in time. Clunky gearbox, but high k's.
Comments:
Best of the lot I've had. I can ride all day, no back problems.. have to stretch legs every now and then. Very reliable runner, good economy. Great with a pillion, both comfort and performance wise. Topbox stops them sliding off the back.
