Email to David J. Krueger
Location: USA (NorthEast) -- Burlington, VT
Experience: 10 years riding; mostly street and some trail experience.
Bikes Owned: 3
Accessories: Tank bag, side bags
Modifications: Previous-to-the-previous owner said he did mods but didn't provide any documentation or details. He did say that he used the bike for drag racing. My mods: K&N stock airfilter; considering scottoiler or similar; seat rebuilt and recovered by Sargent Cycle; considering upgrading to Corbin seat with backrest
Problems: Stripped the damn oil drain hole. I used to have a screw-in rubber stopper plugging the hole, but it was not a perfect seal. So, I screwed in a slightly bigger nut. It works much better but leaks a little. Next time I change the oil, I'm slipping on a washer and hopefully that will solve the problem. Just noticed front forks leaking a bit. Changed oil and still leaks though less than before. Now am looking into complete fork work -- new seals, caps, et cetera. Also, the anti-bounce gizmo at the bottom of the forks don't work. Hence, I'm thinking about doing some kind of brake work that would eliminate those gizmos. Second gear slips once or twice under hard acceleration -- I have decided not to worry about it and whack the throtle in third and higher.
Comments:
Love this bike!

Modifications: Full rebuilt to FJ 1200 MY86 except engine and frame.ZZ-R mirrors. Steel brake hoses, on-board intercom for my pillion to warn me "slow down...police!!!"
Problems: Clutch slipping, second gear overhauling. The brakes of this early model are not as powerful as the later models, but for touring fine. Braking in the corner tends to stand the bike up. Is it tyre or frame problem?
Comments:
The anti-dive unit works very well if you know how to maintain and bleed the system. I was also suprised... The bike is just fantastic, reliable, fast, comfortable. See you on a road somewhere in the Swiss Alps this summer...!!!

Problems: Rear shock joint shagged out resulting in a big time get of at a Brands Hatch track day

Comments:
This Cycle is a Joy to ride. Starting dyno results were 102hp; after fine tuning on carborator, timing, updating air filter and exaust system final dyno was 118hp at rear tire.

Location: UK -- Bassingbourn, Royston, Herts,
Experience: 22yrs off and on !!!!
Bikes Owned: 7
Accessories: Givi Mono rack and 48 ltr top box with high level brake light.
Modifications: Progressive springs, K&N filter,Stainless bolts etc,Lower fairing panels-full fairing look ! New Hagon rear shock, improved ground clearance, even with 18st monster on the back. 10 row oil cooler. Braided hoses. Progressive springs.
Problems: Front brakes loose feel over time. Lower fairing only used in winter due to heat build up. Front fork seals!!! what can I say? only the FJ clubs seals have worked - so far. Squeak from rear suspension linkage, WD40 cures it for a while.
Comments:
K&N filter improved throttle response greatly, 2nd gear sends me backwards on the seat at full wack. I'm thinking of dynojets soon and a better exhaust system. Previous tyres were Avon's, The AZARO rear never budged once. The michelin's seem to be harder and give a little movement on the front in the wet, nothing nasty though. Just purchased a new project - FZR 750 1987 import just something for the weekend !!!!!!! Just completed a round trip to Spain, Macadams are wearing very well, bike was a joy to ride never missed a beat.

JYA35KE03KA000269:
Black w/large rainbow met. 1989 FJ 1200 (Updated: 2000.7.2)
Purchased: 6/2000
Usage: 34,100 miles, Street/Sport.
Tires: Michelin
Owner: Brian Hunt
Email to Brian Hunt
Location: USA (NorthWest) -- Kalama, WA
Experience: A couple of years or so
Bikes Owned: 2
Accessories: Alarm System
Modifications: When I bought the bike it had a black large rainbow glitter piant job on it , but that will change real quick due to the fact that i had to Tore it down to get some engine work done. It has a 17" FZR 1000 rear rim with a 180 series tire on it. It has a V&H 4-into-1 pipe on it, and the exhaust is ported and polished. Also a Targa windscreen.
Problems: Lifters were out of adjustment( to tight which Gave me low compression, leaky clutch slave cylinder, leaky front fork seals. Rear shock was froze up so I couldn't adjust it, and a few tears in the seat. That's about it for now, though I'll probably find more.
Comments:
I rode this bike for a couple of weeks before I had to tear it down and take it to the shop. Although the power was diminished due to the lack of compression, I feel I have gotten a bit of a feel for this bike. And I think once it's running correctly I will finally realize what everyone is talking about.

midnight blue 89 fj1200 3cv (Updated: 2000.7.2)

Location: UK -- Dudley West Mids
Experience: 20
Bikes Owned: 8
Accessories: uprated horn, higher than std screen, sports rack, throwover panniers, Yoshimura temp/volt meter (courtesy of a Japanese friend)
Modifications: 4 into 1 Lazer race pipe. I just wish Yamaha had made it a shaft drive as this would have made it simply the greatest. Tyres recently changed after after 6,000 miles still on Bridgestnes though as they give good feedback. Chain and sprockets need changing now. I found once the chain started to go it deteriorated rapidly.
Problems: Eats tyres and cant stop chasing other bikes usually overtaking them in the process. A little heavy on the fuel though. Correction to this it is heavy on fuel at only 35 mpg around town although I have to admit I love to wind it on
Comments:
Love it. Roll on power is superb especially in 3rd. It hits 155 mph even 2 up with luggage. For such a big bike it is very easygoing in town although not exactly flickable. I wish Yamaha would bring out a shaft driven version with a full fairing and suspension updated.
