Comments:
Love this bike! Heli-bars and corbin greatly improved comfort. No problems since the intitial hestitation. 10/22/99: Took the TL on a small tour of 2200 miles over 6 days and it performed flawlessly. Little discomfort and ready to do another 2000+ miles.

I'd also like to join a club where I can down load some of my writing work. About my travels with my TL in Germany.

| Accessories: From new fitted with Suzuki lower fairing panels also now fitted with MICRON carbon race cans Pyramid platics carbon tank protector.Pyramid Plastics rear hugger | |||
| Modifications: No major mods, other than the race cans, didn`t seem to make much difference to the overall performance, but sounds the biz... OE suspension still fitted, softened to the front and rear.In February `99, after some thought as to whether it was worth it, I decided to fit a 16 tooth front sprocket, (M&P 5.95 Part no.FSP513.16,it costs £5.95) a bigger job than I anticipated,as the clutch operating assembly need taking off, also I found that I had to remove the rear wheel spindle to allow enough space to lift the chain from the sprocket without having to split it, all this said if I had to do it all again it would probaly only take about an hour, was it worth it ???? WEHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, best thing you can do to the beast,it pulls like Brad Pitt at a disco. On 12 month service fuel tank changed by the dealer at no cost to me, (other then them trying to nick my carbon tank protector) | |||
| Problems: No major problems to report, the most annoying is the standard `easy stall` although the bike is fitted with the updated ECU, usual paint damage caused by single seat conversion. The dealer stripped the sump plug on 2nd service, helicoiled. Just had its 12 month service at the dealer (D&K)again I complained about the poor running at low revs and the erratic idle, they said they would sort it, and sort it they did, apparently the throttle sensors were well out, but after they have set it it now runs superb, if yours is the same, insist that the dealer sets it, you won`t beleive the difference, its like riding a different bike. Also recently i have not been riding it alot so to keep it ticking over so to speak, I started it every week and ran it for a short period,DONT`T DO THIS !!!!! I found that fuel had been dumped in the oil, and to get it anywhere near the right level a pint of oil had to be drained.Recent problem with the throttle sensor switch symptoms were, no tickover below 5000rpm,running very rough, eating fuel and black smoke(and right hand can on fire !!!!)eventually sorted under warranty by D & K, the part is a bitch to get hold of, running perfect again, apparently this is not a common problem | |||
|
Comments:
Well pleased with the bike, it was a toss up between the VTR & TL, both bikes test ridden don`t like mopeds so I bought the TL. Purchased from D&k in Newcastle, for £6,000.Still pleased with it, now more than ever, after the prob have been sorted, the only down side is it eats tyres to such an extent that I now beleive that the designer of the TL also works for MICHELIN.

Comments:
I love this bike! It has the attitude of my previous "classic" bikes, has loads of torque for Los Angeles riding (where you have to be ready to get out of the way in any gear at any time), and is a blast to ride. Sounds great, wheelies well, and it looks like it's pissed off - what more could you want? I went with the Bridgestone BT-56SS tires because when I got the bike it had a good BT-56 front when the rear wore out. They're quite good, and since I do freeway droning to work every day, I appreciate the way they don't wear flat in a few thousand miles! I am building a site at http://www.psychobiker.com that covers the TL1000S, KLR650, and soon the 'proper' Sportster I'm building (no fruity fringe and chrome, more of a XR-750 replica).

I JUST PURCHASED A '99 R1. FOR ALL OF YOU OUT THERE WITH TL'S THAT ARE THINKING "I SHOULD HAVE WAITED" STOP. YOUR TL MAY NOT HAVE THE PONIES THE R1 HAS,BUT HONESTLY, THE TL IS FAR MORE FUN TO RIDE. THE R1 WILL NEVER POSESS THE "HEARTBEAT" YOUR TL HAS. IT HAS NO SOUL. IT'S PRETTY,BUT THEN AGAIN,SO IS YOUR TL. I LOVE MY TLS. I WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR ANYTHING, AND I'M GLAD I DIDN'T SELL IT TO GET THE R1.

| Accessories: micron carbon cans, rear hugger, alarm, datatag, bagster tank harness, chain oiler. i don't plan on adding much else, i'm certainly not a carbon fibre fan. . . those things cost the earth and save about as much weight a having a bloody good dump!! | |||
| Modifications: none yet. | |||
| Problems: none yet, i'm reliably informed that all the recalls have been done, but then i've only got the previous owners word for that 'cos suzuki GB don't keep that sort of information! that's really helpful of them, isn't it? however there's a bit of top end clatter from the front pot, the oil's free of crap and it's not getting worse so i'm hoping it's just valve clearances, i'll update soon. i've had the front cam cover off today and there doesn't seem to be anything amiss, there's no debris and the clearances are fine. the only possible explaination i can think of is the auto decompression thing on the exhaust cam.. . . who knows! i spent the rest of the day coppaslip-ing loads of fasteners as well, it went reasonably well, i only managed to shear two screws! they were the ones holding the bar-end weights on and i managed to drill and re-tap them okay. i'd recommend anyone who intends to keep the bike for a while to do the same. it'll save headaches and skinned knuckles in the future!! that clatter? i've just had it sorted under warranty, it's the scissor gears on the end of the camshafts that are specifically designed to reduce noise, they've been know to seize and therefore it gets noisier! it's all quiet again now though. | |||
|
Comments:
what an engine! what a sound! with only having it for a week though, i'm still riding it like an old fart. . . i must be to get 47mpg from the last two tanks!! thought so, 2 months on and it's plummetted to around 35mpg!

Great bike. Fun on the straights really fun in the twisties. If I'd waited till '98 would have bought TL1000R or ZX-9R. Changed my mind. From what I hear the "S" is a much better streetbike then the "R". Think I'll keep it. Really love this bike. I know theres faster and maybe better bikes, but none that are as fun to ride.

I'm 200 lbs and ride forward, so steering problems minimal. Cornering grip truly awesome. I now hate Suzuki UK. I may change my mind if they start to take the TL's problems seriously. Given Suzuki's continuing ability to screwup on the P.R. front, with the bike worth double bugger-all, I've finally vowed NOT to grace them with my new bike orders from now on. But I do love my TL !

| Problems: Just bought the bike and it stumble between 3 and 4 grand when held at a constant speed. Know this is a common problem and can be fixed by upgrading to the latest ECM. Bike has 2400miles on it and I'm the second owner. I'm having problems getting the local dealer to cover it even though it was a recall and was never taken in. any suggestions or people I could get in touch with to get results quick??? | |||

Comments:
this is by far and away the most fun i've ever had on a bike. My dealership (HSY in Goleta) has been awesome! and Suzuki has replaced the fuel tank, upgraded the clutch and handled the runnability issues all under warranty. now if i could only get my wife comfortable on the back seat.....
