Bikes Owned: 20
Accessories: NWS Hugger, Baglux, Fender extender

Comments:
Supplements, and may soon replace, an early Fireblade. I'm 6ft 2in tall and weigh about 100kg dressed to ride, and the TL has been totally stable at all speeds and over some very bumby roads - lots of weight on the front I suppose. 26 August - just done first track day. Mark Hammond of MHR suspension verified my set-up, and once the track was dry the TL was nearly perfect. Only fault is a tendency to stand-up on bumps when cranked over, but hopefully a set of BT56's will sort this. Could do with more power at the top end though.... October '98 - after a few more track days I've refined this view. Changing to a MEZ3 rear has reduced the tendency to stand-up in the corners, and is recommended, butI'm about to put the bike in to Pro Twins in Godstone, Surrey for them to re-work the damper, replace the spring and stiffen the front end. I'll also stick a set of cans on - anyone got any experience of Johnson carbon cans, which look well made and robust enough for the job?

Modifications: D&D Carbon fiber slip-ons...totally cool sound and gets lots of looks, 16-tooth front sprocket...a must try for the money, Barnett heavy-duty clutch springs...for the clutch slippage, applied clear mylar tape to the rear section where the solo seat was rubbing off the paint, removed all warning stix, in the process of getting the tank recall accompished.....I'll update any other mods in the future.
Problems: Same ol' stuff......stumbling at low end, clutch slippage, chaffing of the solo seat on the tail section, no ride heigth adjustment, front brakes a little weak, lofty front wheel.
Comments:
I really love to ride this bike. After all the bikes I have owned, this one rules over all of them. I raced an '88 Honda Hawk and loved it...couldn't wait for the TL and the VTR to come out. The more I ride it the more I love it. Especially two-up......it wheelies too easy with a person on the back. The fun factor is definately worth the price of this bike. It was a toss-up between the TL and the 748......I am very happy with my decision.

Modifications: dyno-jet power commander, modified old yosh zyclone slip-ons to work w/stock exhaust makes 118 horsepower from 7800rpm to 10500rpm with no increase or decrease(give or take .5hp) Haven't messed w/mapping yet though. also disabled airflap in airbox. bike is now back to stock , airbox flap still disabled.
Problems: have oil leak from water pump teltale hole. put on modified slip-ons and noticed big difference done at 1800miles. put stock cans back on at 2200 miles and do not notice any reduction in performance. great bike, love it alot. coming from riding modified open class sport bikes and this is my favorite. don't miss the top end, must be getting old...got top end with power commander, gets to redline quicker too. put the homemade slip-ons back on to battle what felt like too rich in the middle. Back to stock, except for the airbox mod. like it better that way. If anyone has had any experience w/AVON AZZARRO sport av39and 40 . seem kinda skitish leaned over with 32psi in both, thinking about going to 36 or 38psi to eliminate the spongy feeling. bike is in the shop for a week and a half for that damn oil leak from the right hand engine cover. having to call suzuki customer service every other day to bitch... fork legs turning black near the fork seals. dealership cleaned with semi-chrome. looked like chrome was wearing off.?. having a problem getting suzuki's midwest technical dept to approve '98 updated right side engine covers. well they would only change the seal and i only had to have the bike in the shop for 18 days, got it back and rode it 180 miles and it started leaking again. Now It Is Back In The Dealership?!?!! Doesn't Suzuki .......... I'll reserve comment until I get my bike back repaired CORRECTLY! Get this, talked to Suzuki Customer service rep, Mike Scott, and this is what they insist on doing to repair my tl, they are going to take the larger '98 mechanical seal and place it over the original smaller seal and , I'm guessing here, are going to pinch the larger seal in between the engine case and the r-h cover to stop the leak. He had said that a technical service manager (suzuki TSM) who also has a TLS had done this and that it had not leaked yet and put 5000miles on since? I really think I'm being fu........d!?!?!? Next step if and when this thing leaks again is to file a lawsuit here in the state of illinois under the lemon law!!!!!!
Comments:
got the extended warranty for another 48 months. if it didn't leak oil , it would've been near perfect.

Accessories: Micron Cans Scottoiler (I've had these on my bikes for over 10 years). Believe me, they work. Your chain'll last 3/4 times longer.
Modifications: Binned the rotary damper in favour of an Ohlins unit. Not cheap, but the rear end is now nowhere near as solid over bumpy roads. Have yet to fiddle with the settings, so I'll keep you all posted. Put a 15 tooth front sprocket on after reading the Registry, it makes a surprising amount of difference. Worth doing for £10.
Comments:
A totally and utterly fantastic, ballistic beast of a motorcycle. It is the absolute business.
For Sale: Ohlins rear damper for TL1000S - as new. Would cost £575-00 new. One months old. £400 for quick sale.

Modifications: -A severe hack job to the rear fender. I ended up using short stalk signals to narrow the view from behind and the license plate is mounted just beneath the brake light. A hack job, but a nice one. 5/15 I had the fuel injection remapped to get another 4 hp 4/15 I am getting my new ecm (old to be replaced at the strong recomendation of dealer)remapped by the dealer. According to his charts, he can give me app.4 more hp for $60 worth of labor. Oh, Yea !OC Suzuki is the best. 8/98 New ecm - -- A must. No more hiccups! My bike is awsome now. Also got a new tank due to recall. Coolio, my old one had a gash on it!
Problems: This one has me concerned. Thus far, I haven't experienced any problems that i have read about. I realize its still early, but every thing is great. I guess i'm lucky. 4/15 Experienced clutch slip twice- 15 min apart. that was two weeks ago. Stumbles ever so slightly @2500-3500rpm. 5/1 light stumbles and nothing else. 5/15 Barely noticable stumbles after the reprogramming. 8\98 No stumles. You have to get the new ecm. I haven't lost any power. e-mail me and I'll tell you more if you don't believe. 9/14 TBR carbon pipe burnt out with less that 200mi. I was very embarrassed at Ortega with the strong oder coming from the pipe. Dealer is replacing with an aluminum can.
Comments:
I own a 97 gsx-r 750 ( a great canyoncarver/racer)and i love it. Now with the TL my heart is in heaven! The tork, the balance, the beauty... I can't wait 'till i modify it! By the way, if any of you guys out there would like to share your experiences with the mods you have done, i would love to hear about 'em!!! I could also use some advice on suspension settings--- Iam 6 ft, 225 lbs and ride like a mother-.... All responses appreciated. 4/15 I Love this bike! I took it to Ortega and it flew! The mid-range is so good that i can be in one of three gears and not lose pace. Is that power on demand or what? 5/1 Sold my GSX-R. Why? Twin fever. Second gear clutchless wheelies!Need I say more? My geometry is steeper, the pipe has lightened the bike but the best mod has to be the new ECM and the rear sprocket and ride height adjuster. My bike is rock solid and a screamin' mimi! Thanks to Bryan @ Ridelite and Terek at OC Suzuki. The advice from Bryan was great and OC Suzuki Helped me make a monster. Now it's like sitting at an all you can eat Duc buffett. MMMM, smoked Duc never tasted so good. Cio Italy !
For Sale: Okay, I have to sell my baby. I have cried wolf before but this is for real. This bike is set with all the mods listed with the miles at app. 3k. Anyone with 7 grand obo gets this awsome machine - - - If I don't scheme somehow and back out! I really love this bike. What hurts is that I haven't had the common probs like everyone. I must have done something bad in a previous life. I can e-mail photos on request.

I use this bike only for racing for fun and I changed quite newly from a RGV-Frame with DR-Big motor (SOS) to the TL100S. For the moment the bike is mutch faster then me. For touring i bought after 5 years with one of the first Yamaha GST1000A in Switzerland in june 1998 again a new GTSA. I am very happy with this bike.

Accessories: Pyramid rear hugger. Mini indicators
Modifications: MHR Racing full re valve/ re set up of the rear damper, forks, and steering damper . The latter is loosened off, as the suspension mods largely remove the need for the damper. The results of these changes are fantastic. I thought the bike handled ok before, but now its ace-----it feels really neutral, and corners beautifully. At high speeds it's totally stable. Cost about £500, but more than worth it. Remus cans, which sound and look great. Goodridge hoses, which do improve feel (but I want more).
Problems: Clutch slip. This is relatively new, having developed on a recent blast round France. The bike is in for clutch washers this week. Also developed in France, an irregular 'clacking' noise from the rear cylinder. The bike seems fine, and the noise comes and goes. I will update when the source is found. Now sorted------very weird, but the tick over was raised slightly and the noise has gone. I had the tickover set very slow as I like the sound. Clutch sorted with additional washers
Comments:
I, like all of you it seems, just love this bike. I've had loads, but never one which gives me such a good laugh. It looks evil, sounds awesome, and puts a huge smile on my face every time I ride it. The handling is now brilliant, and it even tours well. A 13 hour day in France with hardly a break, and I was still up for a binge that night. The only aspect of my mate's new ZX9R which I preferred was the breaks. Any suggestions ? As a track day virgin, this is the next game, so if anyone goes, let me know. No longer------I'm now totally hooked, what a buzz. The bike was just brilliant, only problem being held up by bloody R1's and zx9r's on the bends but having them pull away on the straights.

Modifications: 16 tooth front sprocket, Vance & Hines SS2R carbon slip-ons, Competition Werkes pegs (the stock rubber pegs made it hard to shift)
Problems: Lots of tank slappers before recall steering damper. The damper works well but very heavy steering on cold nights. Recall ECM cleaned up 3000-4000rpm but doesn't seem to hit as hard on advancing throttle. Had front brake discs replaced under warranty for pulsing. Too many stoppies with Galfer brakes? Voltage regulator failed at 7500 miles, fixed under warranty. No fuel leaks but no new tank yet. Clutch is getting grabby.
Comments:
The bike grows on you each ride. With all its quirks, rough edges and recalls, you still get a big grin each time the front end lifts off. Best bike I've owned.

This bike was totaled with a bent frame on 2 August 1998. Slight oil leak from weep hole - several tries at fixing it, learned to live with it. Before ECM recall - missing/stumbling/backfiring 3.5k-4k. Completely fixed with new ECM. Dealer installed recall damper, dealer replaced clutch cover gasket, dealer replaced radiator cap. 12/97 - replaced fuel tank gaskets. "Total" was prior to getting replacement tank. No clutch slip, ever. Great Bike. After break-in (3500 miles) Gas usage: 35-42 MPG (US)

Problems: Running on 1 cylinder during break-in, solved by warmer sparks. Oil via airbox in cylinders shortly after break-in at high speed (250 km/hr), happened only once then never again. Raising oil-level, doesn't seem to occur anymore since ECU change. Stumbling at low rpm, solved by new ECU Exhaust mufflers are starting to tear at back side, will be replaced under warranty.
Comments:
Despite some child desease inconveniences I really love it!!!! Costs a lot of tyres and gas though. For your information, you lucky Americans: about 4 USD per Gallon
