Problems:
Oil seepage from small hole below water-pump. Very minor "missing" at low-load, low-speed riding with new ecu.
Comments:
Awsome power hit at 7000rpm- front wheel won't stay down. I love this bike! It needs higher clip-ons for the two-up riding.

Problems:
likely gas in oil even with new ecu, neutral hard to find when bike is hot(too soon to see if breakin will help) rear brake apears to drag a bit (breaking in has helped with neutral) However stalls at low speed are now reg event.
Comments:
Hopefully problems will be taken care off at first service although dealer indicates he doesn't believe oil could rise(NOT A GOOD SIGN). will post results I have had bikes over 25 years and v-twin is most diffently different, Handling is great, waiting to get on bike while "breaking in" so really can't say much about engine but cadance of twin is nice change of pace.Bars are not quite as high as I believed they would be and need to be higher, but they make an otherwise unrideable machine much better . as bike breaks in power is getting a bit better also problem with netral is mainly fixed. Dealer did 1st service and bike now stalls even more at low speeds and surges at 3200-3600 rpm. they also adjusted the chain with Zero freeplay so it appears they buggered the tpi adjustment by not checking the adjustment after setting it. Backing off comp. damping on both ends helps with handling and ride.

Problems:
Takes 3 to 4 tries to start when cold. Gas mileage is not the best. But my ZX9's wasn't much better. After 600 mile service the bike runs much better. The mechanic turned out air screws in the trottle bodies 1 turn each.
Comments:
I came off of a 96 ZX9R and although the TL doesn't have the awesome top end rush of the ZX9; The TL is definitely a winner in the useable powerband and handling department. I recommend getting the Kevlar lines the bike will stop on a dime after installing them. The Yoshimura cans sound great.

Modifications:
*Indigo full exhaust system with stainless head pipes and carbon mufflers.
Problems:
*Bad stumble when it was new. Persistant stalling. Problem remedied with a second ECU from Suzuki. *Kickstand mount fell entirely off from vibration. The stock mount bolts refused to stay tight. After I used plain socket head cap screws and lock washers it didn't fall off again. *Clutch slipped during roll ons. Seems to be cured after the dealer supposedly installed the 98 parts and shimmed the springs. *Fuel level raised on more than one occasion. The dealer has installed different seals to try to fix the problem. *Fuel contamination in crankcase oil. This problem might be remedied with the new ECU. I'm keeping an eye on it for the time being. *Leaky clutch cover. The bike was in the dealership three times for this. *Leaky water pump seal. Coolant would seep from cover drain hole in front of engine. *Solo seat cover (a.k.a. "The Rhino Horn") rubbed the paint off of tail section where it made contact with it. *The velcro-like tabs on either side of the tank are smashed over. These are used to fasten the front of the seat to the tank. *High fuel consumption, although it went up 7-8 mpg with new ECU. Mileage seems to be more sensitive to riding conditions. Sometimes it's OK and other times it stinks. Before the latest ECU was installed it was poor no matter how it was rode.
Comments:
*Overall I love the machine, although the problems I've had have been very frustrating to deal with because I've never had a new motorcyle that has had soo many problems. *Suzuki seems to be denying a problem with the oil contamination problems. This contradicts the actions they are taking to remedy the problems. *Only buy a TL if you have a decent dealer that you like and they like you. You'll need to have a good working relationship with him so you can stay happy when you need to have warranty work performed. *Would I buy another one? The TL is probably the FUNNEST sport bike I have owned. However, after the problems I've experienced and other that have had the same problems I'd really have to think about buying ANY SUZUKI EVER AGAIN. I don't think I'm being too hard on them. Suzuki released this thing before it was ready and they may just have lost me as a customer. *My first Suzuki: 1983 GS1100E My second Suzuki: 1988 GSX-R750 My third Suzuki: 1996 GSX-R750 My fourth Suzuki: 1997 TL1000S (Quite possibly my last) *Doesn't it seem odd that I consider the bike to be very fun to ride, but at the same time I may be done with Suzukis??? American Suzuki are you listening??? Please don't do this again.

Comments:
Just had my bike on the Dyno and its a good curve but the top seems chopped off at 110 bhp over 3/4 thousand revs. Most motors rise to a peak and then fall. Does anyone know why, retarded ingnition? More importantly how to correct it to get the extra power? The Dynojet commander will not fix this only improve the curve up to this.

Soon to get a set of rearset footpegs and a full exhaust system. Haven't decided on the exhaust yet but likely to be either the M4 high mount 2into1 or the Yoshimura RS-3. Dream would be the Akrapovic titanium system.

None so far. Except my friend who was riding it dropped it ( a 5-10 mph lowside ). Broken plastic, sheared of footpeg from bracket, scuffed can, broken mirror and turn signals ( all left side )

Modifications:
- Hindle full exhaust system (1st in US!) - DynoJet Power Commander (Electronic Fuel Injection remapping module) - Steel-braided brake lines (front and rear)
Problems:
- Common 3000 rpm thing fixed by new Suzuki ECM. - Leaking gas out bottom of tank, serious pain in the (g)ass. Orig. fixed by tightening bolts. Started again a month later. Will replace gasket this week. - Don't know if I'm getting gas in my oil. - Lost the front bolt on the chain guard, which now has a nice groove cut into it by big MEZ1. - Intermittent, irregular, unexplained back- slipping of tachometer reading upon sudden, hard acceleration from low rpm in higher gears between 3000 and 6000 rpm. (This has *never* shown up on the Dyno. and only happens during *sudden* roll-ons, as described.) I'd like to hear from anyone who's experienced this too, especially if you have an explanation.
Comments:
- The Hindle pipes and cans plus the Power Commander module have given me a total of 118 HP at 10,000 rpm (@rear wheel) a gain of 8 HP, with a very smooth curve ALL the way up. Torque jumped from 70 to 76 with most *extremely* usable increased power between 4000 and 8000 rpm. (I'm very happy.) - Any advice about the gas leak beneath the tank? - How do you know if you're getting gas in your oil? - Love the bike--it's my first one, actually. I learned on it. Very user-friendly, even in the first few weeks, and quite possibly impossible to outgrow....
