Maroon/Black/Grey 1994 B1 (Updated: 2000.9.7)

Usage: 31,000 miles, Street/Sport, Racetrack, Touring.
Tires: Bridgestone BT56SS
Owner: J. Corpuz

Location: USA (California) --
Experience: 6 Years
Bikes Owned: 2
Accessories: Lockhart Phillips 1/2 tank bra, carbon fiber gauge cover, various tank and saddle bags.
Modifications: Full Muzzy exhaust system, K@N air filter. Chopped the whole trunk off and placed the license plate against the battery box. Remounted license plate light above the license plate(stock wiring will reach, just unplug the wiring from the harness reroute it and then plug it back in). Removed the plastic grill looking covers covering the holes on the rear fairing and placed aftermarket turnsignals within them. Lockhart/Phillips carbon fiber mirrors(pain in the butt to adjust). Aftermarket pegs, renthal front and rear sprocket(stock number of teeth), D.I.D o-ring chain. Polished frame, rims, and swingarm. Changed all suspension settings to the ones given in Sportrider magazine(waaaayyy firmer, great for canyons/track, crappy on the freeway).
Problems: Waterpump blew out at approx. 25,000 miles(happened right after I stopped running my bike flat out for about 15 min.). Paid $46.00 for a stupid Kawasaki light bulb(headlamp) instead of going to the autoparts store and paying probably $12.00. Had to replace the rear renthal sprocket after having it on the bike for less than 6 months. Don't know what the problem is there. Replaced both throttle cables at the 20,000 mile mark(major rust on them from riding in the rain all the time in WA. state). Got bored one night and took out all the packing in my Muzzy exhaust, loud as hell, got really good gas mileage, but had major flat spot down low in the rev range. Also lost a little over 5hp when I dynoed it in that condition. Light bulb in the tach gauge just burned out last week and my speedo cable snapped(on order). Also have an intermittent problem with my turn signals(won't work sometimes). And finally since I chopped my trunk off, when it rains, the water on the ground gets kicked up by my back tire hits the bottom off my passenger seat, runs onto my seat, and gives my this nice brownish line across the bottom of whatever pants I happen to be wearing at that time.
Comments:
Great bike except for one small problem. ITS A DAMN PIG. Jeez wish Kawasaki chopped 75lbs off of it when it first came out instead of waiting till 98 to do it. Other than that its freakin awesome. Dynoed at 131.9hp at the rear wheel(for comparison my buddies stock zx-11 did 130hp, another 99 zx-9r(muzzy pipe, jetkit, k@n airfilter) 138.5, another 2000 zx-9 stock 130(all hp measurements were at the rear wheel, all bikes are CA models). Other than that this bike totally rocks. It does everything good, from touring, to racing, to running from the cops, it does everything and has way more punch than a VFR. The front end does get kinda loose though if you late apex really hard when going into a turn. But other than that it's great. Oh yeah, put a 190 tire on the rear at your own peril. Sure looks cool but the handeling SUCKS.

Accessories: Datatag, Datatool Veto Evo Alarm, Double Bubble screen, NWS Rear Hugger, EBC HH Brake Pads, Goodridge Brake Hoses, Micron Race Can.
Modifications: No re-jetting req'd for race can. Dyno'd @ 135.5 bhp at the backwheel. 29/5/00 Fitted Renthal front and rear sprockets. Rear sprocket 44 teeth up from 41 and front still standard no of teeth. DID Gold X-Ring chain now running at 112 links up from standard 110 to account for 3 extra teeth.
Problems: Bastarding Carb icing. Do Kawasaki thing that all ZX9r owners live in the bloody Carribean, well we dont, and so all I want is a bike that runs in the cold as well as the warm. Trouble starting when its cold outside. Warranty work for carb icing carried out will update in winter when it gets cold(er).
Comments:
Mind blowing warp speed, I am looking to alter the suspension settings a bit as I am a bit heavier than your average rider (260lbs) has anyone got a good starting point for some base settings / sag settings and also even possibly changing the front and rear springs, if so what sort of spring rates etc etc...... Also I am about to put on some Dunlop 207GP RR's in the next couple of weeks as the Azaro's have only lasted 2,500 miles. Will update when I've put a few miles on them. Azaros felt as though they made the bike turn in very quickly however this is probably due to the fact that the tyres that were on it when I bought it were squared off squarer that a square thing. (I got the bike seconhand with a couple of thousand miles on it). Roll on 207GPRR's and some decent weather - oh yeah and some track days......29/5/00 Dunlops fitted thoroughly reccomend the tyre also suspendion modded as per P.B settings in their June issue. Need to have a blast to check these out. Chain and sprockets make it lively firing out of corners especially the slower ones.....

Modifications: No blinkers on the front and smaller ones at the back.
Problems: Front mud-guard cracked (replaced under warranty) and clutch return spring broken 2 times (also r.u.w.), also carburation in cold and wet weather is "effing" awfull! (feels like it´s on three cilinders and sounds like a diesel tractor or something!!!).
Comments:
Absolutely brilliant bike (carburation on cold and wet weather beeing the only real problem). Possibly the best bike in the world to go absolutelly mental on the road with great confidence, and a great Track Day tool too (especially with OHLINS goodies). It is beggining to use up some engine oil now(nothing too worrysome) but then it´s been to four Track Days this year alone, so all I can say is that this is one reliable motorcycle (never ever made me loose one minute at the Track due to any problem whatsoever)!

Brillant bike, overall it offers the best package of all the superbikes.Last bike was a CBR 900 1997, a great bike but not a patch on the zx9r.In the hands of a competent rider it is more than a match for the R1, new blade etc.If your looking for a real good second hand Kawasaki then check out Santry Motorcycles in Dublin Tel; 018623355

Accessories: Half tank cover - Plan on getting a tank bag and sport saddle bags for multi-day trips.
Modifications: Cut rear fender just under license plate bracket and turn signal pods. Bolted license plate using bottom holes of plate to raise it up just under the brake light. Windscreen painted opaque black. Screw that tint stuff, the screen is so low I'm never gonna need to see through it anyway. Still provides good wind protection at speed.
Problems: rough partial throttle acceleration, likely due to less then perfect K-TRIC unit. Anyone know if the V&H powerpack has any affect on this? E-mail me if you have any ideas on how to smooth this problem out.
Comments:
170mph on a bike is the best adrenalin rush I've ever had, not to mention VERY scary. Wind is so intense cheek cushions in helmet compacted under pressure. Face shield was starting to press against my nose, and the helmet is a nice snug fit.

Accessories: Tinted Screen
Modifications: Roo Racing slip on loudner(exhaust) , K&N Airfilter , Dynojet kit , Ignition advancer
Problems: Keeping my license
Comments:
Roo Racing exhaust's are a west Australian made product and are louder and sound better than any other exhaust on the market . The dynojet kit and ignition advancer filled out a bit of the low down gap made by the exhaust and make the transition from off to on the throttle heaps more smoother so when cranked right over feeding in the power no more rear wheel breaking loose . I am currently running Michelin Pilot Sport tyres the best tyres I have run on it . Don't run michelin macadams as they start breaking loose after 4000 kilometers and are shit in the wet . The standard battalax's dont have the grip although a mate of mine who owns a zx9 as well reckons the new battalax's are sensational . As off 20/5/00 this bike was destroyed by a suicidal kangaroo. And you all thought kangaroos were cute but to your average Australian they are only road kill (nice way to describe our national emblem hey).My new 2000 model will be listed here on or near the 21/6/00 if you are interested.

Problems: Slight engine pinging or knocking.Slips into Neutral sometimes. I took it in twice and the first time they said it was nothing. The second time, they think it might be the rod.
Comments:
It's currently in the shop right now. for first sevice at 599 miles and to find out what that knocking sound is. The dealer thinks its the rod? I hope not because he says it would take 4 to 6 weeks to fix. people I've asked said this is extremely long for a 2000 bike.If anyone can help me with any suggestions Please HELP because It's already been 4weeks and I'm suffering from zx9 withdrawal. It's now been 4weeks and the dealer said they will start to put it back together next week I can honestly say next I'll go to another dealer. Hey has anybody dyno their 2000 model yet? if so what's the nubers with or without slip on or full exhaust.Hi guys I just got my bike dynoed and was really hurt and mad. and that's putting it gently. So I'm trying to get some feedback on stock zx9r 2000 dyno nubers from others. My bike only pulled 118 ponies with 4th gear roll on. So after you pick yourself off the ground from laughing so hard maybe you can help me. I will say back when I had the bike first service I was hearing an engine noise and the dealership said that's what it's suppose to sound like but after complaining more they did some measurements on the right side of engine and they said KAWI waunted them to re-sleeve it whatever that means. I'm just wondering if I loss some engine performance along the way. Because 1 I know anytime you mess with a engine it's never the same. but I also know every bike isn't going to run the same numbers. OH yeah I followed the manufact. break-in. thanks.

As mention above, rear suspension feels a little too harsh i.e a bumpy road will send me flying out of the seat! Previously owned a Fireblade which appeared to be well sorted in that department. The front end seems a little skittish developing a "wheel out of balance patter" feel. I have tried playing around with both sets of settings with little joy... can anyone help?
