The right buyer at the right time is all it takes but I hate to spoil the euphoria here: 
I advertised my bike for over 6 weeks at 3200$ (CAD) & had a four tire kickers but nothing serious. I sold it for 2700$ with the factory bags, stage 3 jetting, new tires and chain.
It had roughly 32,000 miles on it and was in pretty decent shape. The most I could have gotten was maybe 3k$.The dealer black book lists them at 1900$!!
I'm happy with that because I didn't pay much in '01(@4000miles) and the bike gave me a lot of enjoyment.
