The Canadian government is no better.

In 1974 my father applied for his 3rd Canadian passport.

  He immigrated here in 1929.  Was in the Canadian army for 7 years and rose 
to the rank of Captain, mustered out in 1946 after WWII and got a job with 
the federal government managing the manpower center (unemployment office) in 
north Simcoe county where he worked for 25 years.

He recieved a letter back from the dipartment of immagaration asking him for 
proof of Canadian citizenship.  He sent in his papers of his arrival in 
1929, copy of his army record and employment record plus his 2 previous 
passports.  No good.
He then sent a copy of his marriage certificate from 1941.  Since he had 
married a naturally born Canadian he was granted citizenship and did recieve 
a wonderful schroll to prove it.  I still remeber him coming homing and 
showing me this proof of citizenship and saing "no wonder the god damn 
government is in debt wating employees time and my time on shit like this".
