Pete,

The countershaft sprocket seal isn't bad to replace.  You pull the cover
then carefully drill a couple of holes in the old seal, screw some sheet
metal screws in the holes then yank it out by the screws.  Just don't go
deep as there is a bearing just behind the seal.

BTW, I actually bought a cruiser after all these years.  Bought a 2003
Vulcan Classic I have been fixing, need something slow to offset the Ducati
and the GPZ, LOL!
