Problems: Loud rattle occasionally, especially after hard accelleration from low revs, disappears when you want a mechanic to hear it. I thought it was just shy, but it rattles like buggery when you try to impress anybody!Ha! Found the buggery rattle! The rear camchain adjuster has gone on its holidays. When the replacement arrives I'll tell you all if that was the problem. Yup.
Comments:
Why can't Honda make a stock tank with 19-20 litres capacity? And forks that dont feel like the front is disappearing under the bike when you carry a passenger? Mind you, its nice to have a bike that means that I can spend money on me instead of it. Those of you who've ever owned a Harley will know what I mean. Ten grand on a bike then another three to make the bloody thing go and stop!

Lot's of fun. No problems. I frequently take 100+ mile trips. Gets a little uncomfortable after about 75 miles. Mileage is not great, usually get low fuel light around 90 miles. Got it to come on at 71 miles once, after extremely elevated speeds.

Had a 2-week-holiday-tour at the beginning of may. Made 4300km: Stuttgart(Germany)-Vichy(France)- Biarritz(France)-Pyrenees(with Andorra)-Perpignan(France)-Barcelona(Spain) and back over the Provence(France)- Cannes(Frances)-french Alps-Albertville(France)-swiss Alps-Stuttgart. I am totally happy. A great bike for every situation on public streets. Especially in the mountains with this great engine. I really look forward to some race track experience in August.

Problems: Fuel range sucks,I'm sure theres less than 16 litres,1st to second clunks, seat connection takes a bit of getting used to,maybe alter air filter to get a reserve tank.Any ideas out there? I definately can't cope with the fuel range although on the way to Phillip Island last year Honda HELP roadside assistance came to my assistance after a mistimed fuel stop with free petrol in 15 mins in the middle of nowhere. Thanks to the Holbrook NSW.Honda rep whom I can't rememember his business name (sorry panel beater named Peter) that came to my rescue.P.S I really hate the fuel range and unless I can get more fuel in it I may ditch it, which is a pity as I love it.
Comments:
More comfortable on a long ride than my previous FJ1200,probably because one has to stop for fuel every hour, which I didn't expect.Handles well and I like it a lot.

Comments:
I just got rid of my 93' GSX-R750. I wanted to get somting a little more comfy, yet still sporty. I looked at Ducati Monsters first but they are a little slow, not to mention high mat. I really wanted a good twin. I next looked at the SV 650. This was exactly what I wanted but it's only a 650!!! So this left the TL 1000 and the Superhawk. After doing some research I chose the Superhawk. So far the twin has been everything that I hoped it would be, torqey and quick. It grunts hard down low. I have only rode inline 4's before this and having power at 4000 rpm takes some getting use to, it is fun. It loves launching out of the turns. There is somthing about exiting a turn at 80mph with the front wheel hanging off the ground that I like. As far as comfort goes however it is a little more wristy than I had hoped for, but it's not nearly as bad as the GSX-R was. Probably nothing a diffrent set of bars can't cure. (3-27-00)Just remover the pair valve. This eliminated all popping while decelerating. It is said to make it run a little cooler, but I have not noticed that yet.I have put a few hundred more miles on the bike and it just keeps getting better. 4-5-00 just got my hugger and clutch cover from Carbo Tech. They installed very easy and quick and they look awsome. (4-09-00)Installed a 6mm shim between the rear shock and the frame. This did help the cornering. I got to ride a few diffrent bikes over the weekend. I tried out the SV 650, it's a fun bike. It's very comfy and light. It also has alot more torque than I was expecting, but it starts to lose it's umph at about 85mph. I also got a chance to ride a Ducati 996 WOW!!!!!FAST!!!!Mucho speed and torque!!!!!Great handling, great brakes...Way to expensive! (5-29-00) Today I found that wheelie sweet spot that everyone talks about. It took me a while to get the nerve to put it there but once you do it feels good. (6-11-00)This bike handles awsome I spent today with my knees sliding on the asphault of highway's 33 and 150 many times.(7-13-00)Nothing new to report, just having more fun on it than is allowed by law!(2-17-00)Well the superhawk is gone. I sold it to a friend and got me a Ducati 996S! I realy enjoyed riding the superhawk and would with out a doudt recomend it to anyone who was thinking of getting one. The only reason that I got rid of it is because I found a great deal on my dream bike...the Duc.

Red 2000 Firestorm (Updated: 2001.8.6)
Purchased: Sept 00

Location: UK -- Swindon, Wiltshire
Experience: 6 years road riding and track days
Bikes Owned: 5
Accessories: None
Modifications: Ohlins Front Springs, 15 wt Fork Oil, Goodridge Braided Front Brake Hoses, 6mm Rear Spacer between top mount of rear shock and frame. Blueflame hi-level Stainless Steel exhausts. Powerbronze undertray. Motrax slash cut footpegs without hero blobs.
Problems: Major league lack of ground clearance. Front end bottoms out far too easily, maybe it's because the front end is too soft, but I'm also wondering if the rebound is too fast on the back end and the weight transfer is therefore very quick and overwhelms the forks. Am I talking bollocks? I don't know, but if anyone has a better reason/answer etc then PLEASE email me and put me right.
Comments:
I've managed to grind a big hole in the right exhaust can, so decided to search for more ground clearance hence the cans (ok ok the sound of them helped as well!!!) Didn't get round to unbolting the hero blobs, they ground away pretty quickly, and this problem is the limiting factor on track days. (the cans were shagged by taking on Mr I've got an R1 therefore I'm automatically faster than you on the local roundabouts) Seeing as I've got a track day coming up I thought I'd better sort out the problem. Also the 204's are ok tyres - almost managed to get my elbow down with them so they must be fairly grippy. Will update after Brands (full circuit) track day as I've only just done the mods and havn't yet ridden the bike in anger.*****UPDATE*****Well how do those SBK boys do it!!!! Brands its mental, Full circuit is deffo the scariest I've been to. Anyways bike handled so much better, still wanted to run a little wide but no-where near as much as before. Also it turned in much quicker though more flighty exiting tight corners hard on the gas. Ground clearance not so much of a problem, pegs still suffer (probably best and cheapest mod was to ditch the hero blobs for more clearance!!!) Think I'm going to keep this bike for a while. I lurrrve it. (+ I don't think my marriage will survive a new bike after spending so much cash on it!!!) Oh yeah the cans sound the mutts nuts as well. Next on the agenda....Dynojet, Filter Double Bubble screen and god knows what else, just don't tell the missus!!!!!
For Sale: Nuffin - Well possibly my gran!!! (I want to try an SP1)

Comments:
Sold me SV650. Power loss at 5500 feet was a problem. This bike has the power I need and handles like a champ on the tight twisty stuff I like to ride. Sport tour heaven? 9/14/01 Heaven continues. Really like the new rubber. Wish I had the power available at sea level. Learning to do wheelies better, but again altitude makes it a little tougher. Perhaps a rear sprocket change. Anybody got a part number?
For Sale: too many kids now. for sale at $5300, in Colorado. good shape, low miles, extras.

Modifications: TBR low mount oval carbon slip-ons, minor jetting mods. Put Dunlop 204 GP tires on after the stock 204's were used up
Problems: Klunking sound in front fork. TBR exhaust self destructed after 4 days use & one hard run of 85 miles. On the second set of pipes now, two days old. 204 GP's caused a severe high speed (130-140 mph) instability problem. Honda said that they were not responsible for this extreme condition? I told them to take notice of Suzuki, at least they were willing to admit that they had a problem. The rear tire was the culprit. Put a stock 204 rear back on and the problem disappeared.
Comments:
Wow what a bike! I love the friendly handling, and the way it just inhales Ducatis on the back roads. Could still use a little more top end power but I am a serious speed freak.

Comments:
A dealer told me he drove a VTR for 2 summers and said the best slip on's to improve performance was the Hindle Aluminum serie (apparently he tried many of them). Moreover, we can have them for less than $600 (both). However he also told me that they are borderline for noise regulation. I wonder if anybody had any experience with these ? Keep me posted. Battlax tires are great, once warmed up, they litterally stick to the pavement. Never had a scary corner. However the front end is getting all over the place when I quickly accelerate on not so bad roads. Thus, I am thinking of buying a steering damper. Any recommendations ??? If one of U is up for a ride, email me. Phil

Lighter and more grunt than 98 VFR800. Very unusual bike. Getting used to vtwin rev ranges takes some do-in! 26/01/05-more to come.6/3/05 After 8000km replaced 204 dunlops with 205's{much better tyre-but you all knew that}.Really enjoying the bike more now.It has developed more personality over 5krpm-probably loosening up!Came off at hidden T junction near Swansea-Tasmania.Beware-road signs are very misleading there.-Traded bike 2006,for Gixser K6.Wow what a contrast. A lot lighter, therefore goes around corners by just mind control alone. The acceleration just leaves the VTR for dead. Not as comfortable for a lanky fella like myself. But i'll put up with it.

1998 For Sale for $8000. Includes slip-ons, lower fairing, and stock mufflers. Tires are still great because of easy riding. Selling the bike is no reflection on my love for riding it. I hate selling it but family priority is debt reduction. The Two Brothers pipes are louder than stock. It's hard to quantify the loudness; it's mostly a matter of taste. At least I can now hear the exhaust when I ride. I like the sound they make... deep and mellow. They add to the experience of riding for me. The slip-ons are very well constructed and look much better than stock. They're much lighter, too. Two Brothers said that the slip-ons would add about 6 hp over stock and would not require a jet kit. They said a complete exhaust system (very expensive)would add 10+ hp and would require a jet kit. I do not have before-and-after dyno results for the pipes. However, I did have the bike dynoed before and after the motorcycle shop installed the jet kit. With stock carburation and the slip-ons installed, the bike dynoed at about 101 hp. After installing the jet kit per instructions there was no change in hp. With further jetting changes the bike finally dynoed at about 104 hp.
