They have the same resistor in the ignition switch on the VN1500, I don't
think its on a parts diagram as they don't show the build of the separate
items. If it is the same as the VN then its on the bottom outer surface
where the wires are soldered onto the switch.

Not doubting your mechanic for one second, but is this resistor in the 
wiring diagram, and where did they (physically) locate it on the bike?  If 
there's a mystery electrical bit that may eventually give me trouble, I'd 
like to know about it. :<))

Long story short, they cleaned up/resoldered the connections and all is good

again.  Couple of hundred $'s for labour, but given that I had no idea theis

resistor existed, it's unlikely I'd have fixed it at all - so the cost 
doesn't seem too bad.
