<<Does the GPZ have an oil screen inside like a KLR 650 does?  When I   
dug into my 650 it was full of  stuff (gasket material, plastic bits,  
etc.) it gets caught here before it goes to the oil filter.

Yeah Jayt according to the manual there is a screen in there.
