Accessories: Bassani 4 to 1 Header, Tank Bra, Smoke Zero Gravity windshield, K & N air filter pods, Grab-On Superbike grips (love em), Had original seat covered in 100% black leather which stopped the sliding butt effect.
Modifications: 1986 Installed Vance and Hines 4 to 1 header kit, which later was found to be garbage due to the rivits on the can coming loose. Vance and Hines didn't stand behind their product. What a shame. 1987 Installed a Bassani 4 to 1 header. This was by far one of the best headers available for the FJ. I still have it installed and it sounds great. The unique sound of the header was one of the reasons my bike was recovered from being stolen! Lowered front forks 1".
Problems: Currently rebuilding my carbs--->Done. Need to replace leaking fork seals after 20 years-->Done Starter makes a squalling sound after the engine starts,( bad starter bearing?)---> Done it was a dry outer bushing.
Comments:
Bought it brand spank'in new in 1984. Cost $4400. I knew I had to have one when I saw the first Genuine Yamaha pamphlet released. Heck I was still in high school, and only 19...the insurance cost was killing me! I can still remember all the comments people made about the size of the rear tire. After recovering it from being stolen in 1998, I pulled the engine and installed a Wiseco 1188cc big bore kit. Rejetted carbs accordingly. Had to replace all keylocks that were damaged from theft. I re-keyed my tumblers on the fuel cap and seat lock so they matched the ignition switch and all worked with one key again. Check out my online photo. 5-17-2012 I ordered a new lower fairing from Air-Tech. Just got it in the mail today. Looks like they could have done a better job shaping it. I'm going to have to correct some of their mistakes before sanding and painting it.

The original exhausts, which were in reasonable condition were swapped ( with a fee) for Have 2 brackets to fit blue spot calipers up front. Excellent. a Remus stainless set up, 4 into 1 with twin tail pipes. Now without the ZXR master cylinder. My friend replaced the ZXR master cylinder with OE one. Have alloy brackets to fit blue spot calipers up front.
Problems: Clutch slave cylinder went, repaired by myself. Went again repaired by my friend. Botched the screws on the clutch master cylinder (hence the Kawa unit). Screen now 'cloudy' and needs replacing at some time. Battery water evaporates quickly. Now it doesn´t with new battery.
Comments:
A wonderful bike. Need to re-chrome the petrol cap and the side stand (bad re-chrome job). Side stand now fine. Had cap rechromed but the job was awful. Done in March, by July it was brown with rust. Will polish and lacquer. Reliable and powerful. Would like to fit USD forks from an R1. R1 rear looks neat too.Not used enough. The bike is in the UK. My friend looks after it at the moment, while I am in Spain. He rides it and has made some repairs. Now in The Canaries. I rode from the UK. Fantastic journey with the bike excellent. Me?.........no I am not fit!!
