Location: USA (SouthWest) -- Colorado Springs, CO
Experience: 13 years, street.
Bikes Owned: 5
Photo: Photo-Link
Accessories: Givi Wingrack and E360 bags, Eclipse tank bag, Mag Knight tank guards.
Modifications: Vance&Hines SS2R 4-1 exhaust. Progressive Suspension fork springs with Race-tech cartridge emulators and 15W Silkolene fork oil. Dynojet needles and springs with 112 mains and needles as low as they'll go. Idle screws 2-3/4 turns out. V&H 5-degree advance ignition rotor.
Problems: Bike was in very nice cosmetic shape when I got it at 12,900 miles, and fairly well-maintained, but fork oil and brake fluid had been neglected. Rear ABS mechanism is apparently seized up and non-functional. Front seems to work okay. Hoping that regular exercise and fluid changes may yet break it loose.
Comments:
Love the bike. Bought it in Plano, TX, and rode it home. Rejetted the carbs, rebuilt the forks, and took it on a 2200-mile round-trip to Tucson where I met up with some other FJ owners from the FJ group on Yahoo. Super comfortable, fast, smooth, and quiet. Just enough howl from the V&H pipe to make you want to twist the throttle a little more all the time. Mild-mannered around town, and not a monster off the line, but sneaky-fast on the open road, and shifting is always optional. Handles pretty well for being 600 lbs with a sport-touring wheelbase and rake. Carries its weight nice and low which helps in the transitions. Seat height is almost too low; may look into raising the rear ride height with a new shock or dogbones to quicken the steering and give extra ground clearance. Update 12/13/03: Just passed the two-year anniversary. Put 33,000 miles on between January '01 and August '03, including tours through most of the western states, and riding out to California for the First Annual West Coast FJ Rally this year. Have only managed another 2000 miles since then due to getting re-employed, and not having as much time to ride. Have had to replace a couple more fork seals, and rebuild the clutch slave, and the chin spoiler shattered at the left rear mounting hole, but have experienced no other problems. Still loving the old FJ, but may upgrade to an FJR1300 next spring.

Been looking for a decent FJ for 6 yrs & found this one. Very happy, but would like to return to original specifications for paint & bellypan. Comfortable as commuter & tourer, even with 200 kgs of people & luggage. Did first 1500 kilometre trip in hard rain, mist & wind, but she brought us home in one piece & with no sore bums. Happy I got mine.

This bike continues to impress me. Currently saving up parts for a future upgrade (1314cc kit, undercut gears, 17" wheels. Note: 17" wheels can be had from www.ems-usa.com . They are direct fit. Swap the brakes, drive train, etc and bolt them on. You can run 120/70 up front and 170/60 rear without any other mods. This and they save about 15lbs of upsrung weight.

Problems: Over strong tyre mechanic stripped thread in front fork leg, fitted longer spindle obtained from breakers and fitted castle nut instead, Clutch slipping now and again on hard accelaration now, not to sure why is intermittent but will replace clutch and springs hopefully this will cure it. Clutch now sorted new plates and 20/50 oil cured the problem,
Comments:
Will fit panniers for next summer, (done now) but over all this is the bike i like, the weight is no problem and the handling superb, I owned a FJ1100 about 8 years ago and always said i would buy a 1200, with 120 miles round trip to work every day this bike gives me the comfort and the fun to make this trip. Did the round britain rally on the bike in 2003 two up full camping kit , no problems at all

Problems: FORK SEALS KEEP LEAKING, FRONT SHOCKS POOR , is just starting to use a small amount of oil. progresive fork springs fitted only slightly better, has just started a slight vibration at around 100kph. has anybody brought fj cd from phil livo in aussi looked good but am unsure about purchasing over net ??? Have just brought new set of forks from wreckers, very hard to come by over here as not many are wrecked,so hope to fit them in next couple of weeks-will hopefully improve things. have gone back to old pipes as Imiss the speed.

Bikes Owned: 15
Photo: http://hometown.aol.com/got2dogsman
Accessories: Givi Hardbags. Zero Gravity windscreen.
Modifications: Nothing serious yet. She's only got 9500 miles so I don't want to molest her too badly. 11000 miles as of 10/01/03.
Problems: Hiss from fuel cap. Fuel leak, not sure if petcock or needle & seat yet. Dies occasionally on hot days but restarts quickly. Think that's a vent valve in the cap getting stuck causing vacuum lock. Fuel pump doesn't always seem to run when reserve switch is in normal position but starts back up immediately when switched to reserve.
Comments:
This is my second FJ. I've been shedding a wee tear ever since I sold my 86 1100. Even a 1968 FLH couldn't get my mind off of that bike so here I am on another one. Even with the problems I'm having it is still one of the best if not the best bike built for someone who actually likes to ride.

Accessories: Gearsack rack & bag, Dririder tank bag
Modifications: Laser 4 into 1 exhaust, replaced front indicator lights with after market lights and relocated them 1/2 way up front fairing, looks much better.
Problems: Front forks kept chopping seals out, due to being bent by previous owner, now having forks rebuilt to new.
Comments:
The FJ is economical to run, 20k's/l average. I get 15,000k's from a set of Battlaxes. Pulls like a train, the ladies love the seat and the exhaust note. I haven't heard one bad comment about it so far. Replacement bike????? ANOTHER FJ of course. I love it.

Bikes Owned: 10
Accessories: Givi tank bag, (the best!) and taller windscreen, small highway pegs.
Modifications: Previous owner added 1989 front forks and brakes, Galfer rotors, braided lines all round, 1989 wheels, 17 front, 16 rear. I added highway pegs at the front frame. Epoxied all fairing cracks with new type plactic weld epoxy (smells like what a dentist uses!) Painted frame rails and 89 wheels silver. Old Corbin gunfighter seat (still comfy).
Problems: This bike had been down three times. Both side air scoops damaged, and fairing cracked in multiple places. Clutch hydraulics need replacing.
Comments:
Seems weird that this bike would be more comfy than my Venture in some ways! I like the stability of the steering, crosswinds are no problem. The roads around the Bay area and California are the most wonderful in the world, and this seems to be the perfect tool. Can't wait to let her loose to Lake Tahoe.
