Comments:
Love this bike. It hasn't been the fastest nor the most powerfull bike I owned; however, it's still the best one I've ever owned. For what I appreciate and expect from a motorcycle, this is it. Only drawback is not enough power. Reason I'm making it as light as possible. Hawks rule MAN!

Tires: Pirelli Dragon rear Corsa front
Owner: Lark

Location: USA (NorthWest) -- near Puyallup in western WA
Experience: 2 years riding, some track (CLASS and track days)
Bikes Owned: 3
Modifications: F2 bars and adjustable preload fork caps, 97 97RR shock with Hawk spring (Gary Davis modified), Factory Stage 1 jets, needles and ignition advance, Progressive fork springs/10 wt fork oil, D&D full exhaust, K&N individual filters, 85/100 watt headlamp, eliminated rear taillight bracket
Problems: Flaky neutral light. Hard to find neutral when stopped with new clutch. Front brake fails to activate brake light and can't find the problem (it's not the switch). When I first bought the bike the gas tank wouldn't vent and it would run out of gas long before the tank ran dry. Problem solved by getting a new gas cap - apparently it had a California cap on a 49 state tank.
Comments:
Forks need more rebound damping - considering F2 front or cartridge emulators. Was told not to expect much from the jet/exhaust upgrade and the new exhaust is butt ugly (el cheapo D&D black pipe) and loud but it has made a significant improvement. The 3800 rpm flat spot is gone and it pulls significantly harder throughout. I started out with a 160 rear - have a 150 rear now, think I'll go back to the 160 rear next set of tires. I love this bike!!

This is my second hawk. The first was totally stock, and worked fine. This project, race, wifes bike, is a different critter. Way faster, not much harder to ride, handles better. Really fun to suprise your big bike buddies with a stock, and old looking bike that they can not get out of their mirrors.
