Comments:
Cool bike. Attracts attention here in Indiana. Won't tear your arms off with power, but is fun in the twisties. Need to change the ergos, as it is best suited for smaller riders. I've ridden it to Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan. Ass and arms go numb after 40 miles. It is best suited as a city bike. Would like a bigger Beemer for 2-up touring.

Comments:
My first BMW , have always been , and will always be , a big fan of British motorcycles , but this particular machine really caught my attention , after less than 600 miles on it , I am growing very attached to it . I have a 4,000 mile + trip planned in two weeks , would be very interetsed in hearing about anything specific to these bikes as far as touring and/or maintainance . Update , Completed the plannedtrip of just over 4,000 miles . I saw Mi.,Oh,In.,Ill.,Mo.,Ok.,Tx.,Ar.,Ms.,Tn.,and Ky aboard this lil' beast , had more fun than I have had in years on two wheels. Other than an oil change (it didnt seem to lose a drop , but it did blow some smoke out the left pipe when I left it on the sidestand overnit) some add on fwd mount pegs and an adjustment of rider pegs, the bike required absolutely no attention . Cruising at speeds of 80-90 MPH most of the time never hit 40 MPG , this was my only disapointment with the bike(other than the characteristic slow acceleation ) , and I have some tuning ideas that should help . All in all , Being this is my first BMW(and it wont be the last ) I think it exceeded my admittedly high expectations, I am very impressed with it . Thanks , Craig
For Sale: would like to find a tank cover for this model

Problems: None, other than normal wear and tear from extended mileage and everyday usage.
Comments:

Red 82 R65LS (Updated: 2005.4.30)

Usage: 37,191 miles, Street/Sport.
Tires: Dunlop
Owner: Scott Conley           Phone: (480)7829300
Email to Scott Conley
Location: USA (SouthWest) -- Chandler, Arizona
Experience: 30 years riding, street, touring, off road, etc
Bikes Owned: 8
Accessories: Looking for new speedo and tach that sits cleanly on top. Current model is missing an attractive back. Also looking for bar end rear view mirrors. Need to get SS exhaust system.
Modifications: Tore bike down to frame. Powder coated frame black, wheels dark silver and repainted other parts to Pepper Grey Metallic. Having new seat done (rider only seat). Chromed handlebars and mounts. Took off LS fairing and looking for better instrument display. Setting up as cafe racer style. New tires, rebuilt transmission, wiring harness and much more.
Problems: Cleaning the engine and all the heat sync fins. It has been the stress releaser, to go into garage at night and tinker. So even problems are distractions from everything else and I soon forgot the little stuff. But I have lost knuckles on the cleaning.
Comments:
Bought bike to restore and modify with my son. Expect to finished this fall. I have other BMWs, but enjoy working on this the most. Looking forward to the next project after this.
For Sale: If anyone wants to make offer on LS fairing, I'll sell cheap

Usage: 75,000 miles, Street/Sport, Touring.
Tires: Metzler- Lazer and Marathon

Email to Lee Parker
Location: USA (NorthWest) -- Washington State
Experience: Riding 31 years
Bikes Owned: 6
Accessories: Brown side stand, Telefix fork brace, Progressive brand fork springs with Bel-Ray 10W fork oil, Progressive brand rear shocks. Dual discs off R65LS with K75 Brembo brakes and hand lever, fork gaitors, and S bars.
Modifications: Be sure to go to 10W fork oil when changing out the front springs to an aftermarket brand. The heavier springs will DEFINATELY need the extra damping. Changed the seat pan to 1983 model, looks much better! Painted 83 R65 blue instead of original Bronco Brown.
Problems: Most problems were associated with the previous owner over-tightening bolts. The brand new speedometer from BMW is still 5 miles per hour optomistic. It's 2002, you would think BMW could make an acurate speedometer!!
Comments:
Just put in a new Speedometer and Tach at Ozzie's BMW in Chico, CA. Buying new ones was cheaper than the price quote for having them rebuilt at Palo Alto Speedometer!! Also, got the under seat tire pump for the bike, (was missing) but BMW now sells cheap plastic ones, instead of the original metal. :( Bike has now been repainted the original Light Blue, with silver pinstripe, after needing a new tank because the old one developed pinholes!

Modifications: None ,.....I powder coated the mag wheels white, just like the factory option at the time.
Problems: the owner b4 me had to do the entire top end with many other little repairs,...I had to do a Major tune, new steering head bering, minor carb work, a couple rubber boots to keep all the liquids in. all work done by dealer in SAn Diego$$. looks like brakes are next.
Comments:

Problems: Starting is always a problem but less so in warmer weather. Once startted it runs fine. However fuel consumption remains poor around 40 MPG or 10 miles per litre, it does have an RT fairing. The mileage on the speedo when I bought it was 300, but it was a new speedo. My estimate of mileage is around 20000

Problems: Bought the bike as a barn bike, am in the final phases of a frame up restoration....Bike runs like a top...none so far, motor ran well when bought, only 20K,but the rest needed the work badly..very corroded, but not anymore! A full year of riding and not even a hiccup, bike runs flawlessly.
Comments:
Hoping this will be my 2nd bike, first is a Triumph Trophy 1200...This will be my sunny day going out and about putt bike.Nice day trips on the backroads and running errands. The Trophy will be my long haul/Hiway bike.Looking for a longterm/lowcost 2nd bike for carefree riding with low weight around town... I have really grown to enjoy this little bike. It is perfect for riding when you need to run a few errands or as a backroads cruiser on a sunny day. Truly a wonderful bike, and the engine revs so freely, fun is not out of the question either. This little bike can ROCK when you do a few simple mods...exhaust, jetting, airbox, remove epa piping.. It runs too well for words. Sweet comes to mind.
