Comments:
First BMW after owning Triumphs (late 60s, early 70s) and Hondas. The bike is an absolute joy to ride. In that respect it reminds me of the Triumphs I had - without the hassles of oil leaks and tempermental electrics. I'm looking to do a number of modifications and would be interested in the success (and failures) others have had modifying their bikes.

Comments:
I am the second owner and the only one to put any miles on it. I bought it with less than 500 miles on it and have just past the break in miles at 2500 on the odometer. I'm used to riding Honda Goldwing(GL 1100) with full Honda-line tour package so I find this a bit small but sporty in comparison. I also have a 79 Yamaha 750 that is nearly ready for the road after a rescue from a dusty garage.
For Sale: Sure. Offers can be made to my E-mail address. (I have recently turned down an offer of $3000.00 US Dollars)

Problems: The only criticizm I have would be shifting gears, 1st and 2nd are a bit clunky.- I presently have a problem with my front brake. No free play in my brake lever and my front wheel was held tight by the pads. I cleaned out the reservior filled it with new fluid and tryed unsuccessfully to bleed them, I ended up with a fluid leak at the joint where my cylinder connects to the brake lever assembly.I'm thinking that my piston assembly may need replacing as one of the rubber seals look to be worn. comments would be appreciated!

Problems: The revcounter must be defect. The needle moves but it is often at least 600 rpm behind, I think.
Comments:
A stable and reliable motorcycle. Good quality. It's a little short of torque at low engine speeds. Mine has two intervals of irritating vibrations: 3500-4000 rpm (80-90 km/h) and 5250-5750 (around 120 km/h).

Comments:
When I was in college in 1982 a teacher of mine commented how he would like to get back into riding. I suggested a new BMW that had just come out , the 1982 R65LS. I went by the Dealer (Dunbar Eurosports, Brockton, MA) and got a brochure and a magazine test of the bike. He bought the bike shortly after that. I lost touch of him for almost ten years when I ran into him out one night. I asked him if he still had the LS. He said that he did but he hadn't ridden it in about 8 years, and it was sitting in his cellar. When I asked him if it was for sale he said "Sure, everything is for sale!" I found out where he lived and stored the info away. I didn't get a chance to go see the bike for another 9 months, but one day I decided to go see if I could find his house. It was pretty easy to find and he was even home! The bike was in his cellar. It was dirty and neglected, but all there and it only had 6147 miles on it! We struck a deal and I brought it home! I am currently in the process of taking it apart and repainting the frame and wheels, Replating all of the hardware and beadblasting the caese and replacing all of the seals. The original bodywork is in beautiful condition and came back with multiple waxings. I will finish this bike after I finish my other LS (VIN 6370964) that is to be given away at the 99 MOA National in Rhinebeck! So now I have bought "back" my 1st BMW by proxy! :-)
