green 1997 tls (Updated: 2002.2.16)
Purchased: 10 2001
Usage: 9,500 miles, Street/Sport, Racetrack.
Tires: pirelli supercorsas
Owner: john
Email to john
Location: USA (California) -- sacramento
Experience: 9 years street, 1 year racing
Bikes Owned: 9
Accessories: Attack Racing triples, Race Tech Gold valves with .95 springs, Ohlins damper, 800lb(I think) spring,V-2 ride height adjuster, Ridelite rearsets,SS lines with HH pads,M4 full exhaust, PCII w/KnN filter,Barnett clutch springs,Zero Gravity double bubble, Intuitve swingarm sliders/spools, 18/43 520, 180 rear
Modifications: Currently sourcing longer motor mount bolt to mount Pro-Tek frame sliders the way a kit should have done it(the long bolt that goes through both sides of frame), dropped some weld into fotpegs to make them solid, put the 18 tooth on to raise chain off swingarm, GMD Computrack set-up, no sawing off of anything!
Problems: None yet. Gas tank recalls were done previously, as was the PCII. Extra swingarm down angle makes chain problem worse and kills my nuts.
Comments:
My license will surely be in trouble soon. Looking forward to track day to familiarize myself with the bike. This is the funnest bike I have ever owned, by a long shot. Suspension is spot-on, shakes its head a tad but always stays in shape.Bitchen. In anticipation of blowing up the motor, I am trying to learn more about TL motor mods so to build a faster one. Anybody has experience, lemme know.
For Sale: I am looking for stock rear spring, and afermarket to 750lb. Got one? 2-16-02

Accessories: Yoshimura RS-3 full race system,K&N air filter, Dynojet Power Commander ll with the remap fuel injection for the Yosh full race system,Tank-bra Pro-Tek rear sets, lots of work done to air-box.
Modifications: Had all factorey recalls done put on yoshimura full race system on really made a big difference top end added Dynojet Power Commander ll with new injection map for the full race system. Made a big difference in the way the bike pulled up top. Then added the K&N airfilter to the bike, and took the flap out of air box and opened up the bottom of the airbox, yes it actually pulls harder down low and pulls very smooth and hard up top. After K&N was put on I disconnected the Dynojet PC to see if there was a difference. (WOW) there was a difference all rite, with the Power Commander taken off and the K&N on it seemed to lean out at top end. Did not pull as hard to redline. I'm looking into putting a Penski shock on the back to try and get rid of some of the wiggle in corners, tried to work with stock shock but it is limited when it gets hot.Took my bike to Fast By Ferracci he put the bike on the Dyno and smoothed out the air fuel ration and added another 5hp took me up to 129.1hp. Missing that 130 mark by just .9. Well not to bad for what little I have done to the bike.
Problems: Yes Clutch slipped very bad after motor got warm, I left a friend take it for a ride and he asked when I put the automatic transmission on the bike. Not Good.. Thanks to my Suzuki dealer (Jason) he worked with me and with Suzuki until they fixed the problem, not on the first try I might add. They finally added shims to the springs to make them stronger and so far so good. Now the only complaint I have is it eats tires like candy on my 4th set.(Did not put race compound on back just front)
Comments:
Love the bike very much the only problem with it is in the suspension still working on that and of course in my case it could always use some more Power--lol. I traded in a 96 Ducati 900ss/sp on the Suzuki and I'm not sorrey for one minute that I did. Think I will have this bike for a while. I hope Yoshimura comes out with some motor mods for it.

Accessories: 1. Ohlins rear damper 2. Ohlins front fork springs 3. Yoshimura RS-3 bolt-ons 4. Nissin 6-pot front brake calipers 5. Goodridge braided brake hoses 6. ART carbon fibre front fender & rear hugger 7. Powerbronze smoked screen.
Modifications: As above. Maybe airbox, etc. next? Possibly braver rider? Perhaps an adjustable (eg Ohlins) steering damper might help on this one.
Problems: 1. Low-speed/revs surging (I don't know what ECM this one's got) 2. Looks like the fuel in the gas thing's heading my way. Suzuki SA reckons ECM's OK, but didn't tell me which one I've actually got. They're not very helpful, as they say mine's a "grey" import. Anybody got the low-down on the ECM Ser No logic? 3. Oil in airbox - any ideas? Had the breather blocked off, but where the hell is the oil now going to - staying in the airbox? 4. Leaking clutch cover - quite bad.
Comments:
BEEEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Had a few GSX-R's before - this twin might be "quirky", but she sure kicks ass! Mate with his SP1's still hurting from the hiding he got.

OUHAOU!!! First Twin for me (had GSX-F750 90, FZR 1000 EXUP 89, and ZX6-R 97) and I really enjoy it... The more i ride, the harder I get. And the Full Yoshi system give a blasting 109Db, but here in NZ this is legal.....sorry suckers.

Accessories: Tint screen, grab rail, seat cowl, short stalk indicators. Bicycle computer.
Modifications: All the dealer mods. Stock can mod. Awesome sound. Spend a 16-hour day polishing the cans. The finish is almost there now. Sweet!
Problems: I'd like the PCII, but it's $850 in here! Sheit. Luckily I could get the original 'Full Power' -ECM, that finally made it idle. I'm a happy camper now! (made cold starts worse though). Some oil weep from the water pump and clutch-shaft - seal, changed OK. Front wheel bearings busted at 16k km. Dealer (MR-Power) checked and said they were OK. After 500km's checked myself. Bearings were totally busted. The marbles dropped out as I took the seal away. PISSED! 06/01 Waterpump leaking again.
Comments:
Grrrreat bike. Even though it had a couple of glitches I wouldn't change it for the world. Love the handling and the grunty engine. Plus she's a beauty! (Bonus) All original, dealer Dyno says 120hp at rear tyre! That's my '97.

Accessories: Zero Gravity smoked screen, foam superbike grips, Kerker Slipons,Galfer Stainless Lines, a K.N. Filter, and .Suzuki 1/2 Tank bra,L.P. aluminum chainguard.Barnett clutch and springs.I also installed a Graves aluminum Clutch cover, no more leaks.
Modifications: .The motor stays stock until or if some serious problems arise. Also, I trimmed the rear fender off,re-mounted the liscense plate lite, and installed smaller signals.I recently removed those gawd- awful looking bungee hooks at the back of the bike. The back end now looks very clean.I installed a 16 tooth countershft sprocket.very impressive acceleration with this inexpensive mod. I should have installed after market brake pads instead of the stockers that I chose.I have to really lean on the front to get a chirp out of the front wheel.
Problems: The only problem now is a very slight weep of antifreeze out of that weep hole on the right side of the engine,I had to add antifreeze a couple of times last season after longer rides (300-400kms).
Comments:
This bike really kicks ass,and really gets attention due to the sweet sound from those Kerkers.I'm no tire salesman but i've got to tell you, those Michelins stick real good, the bike always feels really well planted.I am running a 180 on the rear and the stock size front. My only regret is now that the TL is adiscontinued machine it may become difficult or impossible to purchase new aftermarket parts.

Changed the oil to Castrol Activ4T as recommended by Suzuki and still slipping. Clutch plates and friction plates are in tolerance (specs from Suzuki), put new springs in (hayabusa as recommended by Suzuki) still slipping. Keep you posted on what the out come is.
