| Modifications: cut the rear fender down, nice and cleanly, down loaded a fuel map from k&n(runs rich but no backfiring), frame cracked brought to the dealer(crossbay honda suzuki, rip off's) suzuki gave me frame but had to pay $1000 dolars labor, dropped the fork tibes 7mm's, | |||
| Problems: bought bike new, stalled constanly part rider part bike, hesitated consatanly, when riding with friends had to ride in the back of the pack it backfired all the time brought it back to that dealer and they said they adjusted the throttle bodys, every other week i brought it back to that! dealer for injection problems untill i got recall notice for the tank, 4 tanks later and still leaks, over tightening the fuel pump gasket seems to minumize the leak to an occasional sweet now and then, ran fine till 10,000 miles then the frame cracked and the rotary dampener broke off(at 80mph and almost threw me off) ever since then lost all confidence in the bike(just don't handle like it used to, maybe its in my head or its the bike) | |||

Comments:
any suggestions on the frame replacement, is it the same frame or has it been updated so it wont crack again? i had alot of plans for this bike, dynomag wheels, after market rear shock(ohlin's or penski), send the front forks out to LE get done(springs and revalved), rearsets, cast iron brake rotters, rear sub fender, airtec lower fairing, corbin seat, i love the way the bike looks but worried about wasting my money and time on a bike that's got 9000 miles to go before i have to by another frame. any info or solutions would be much appreciated.

Cranked up suspension and now experiance much less see-saw, rides tough though and rear end breaks loose sometimes, (will soon go with conventional shock, both lindmans and ohlins make the kit)can be disconcerting. threw away stock steering damper, can actually feel the front end now, only occasional moderate pucker factor leaned over hard on the bumpies...eveyone needs to do this, I was living in london when all the moto mags came out and said the TL was dangerous...more proof brits should stay away from our dry curvy roads. bike eats D207's in three thousand miles thinking of switching to bridgestones

Clutch slipping at 5000 rpm on some hard acceleration. 12/11/00: now very rare, perhaps because of the new semi-synthetic oil? or unconscienthious adapted riding style.

Comments:
My second love story after my sweet Carole. The engine is all that I want: torquey, smooth and easy power (very helpfull to ride it fast) and exciting power rush at the top. Not very nimble, but after replacing macadam 190 and used front Mez1 by Michelin pilot sport, it is ok.I have tried a macadam 90x, it is ok but not enough grippy when rear breaking: replaced by a 180 pilot sport: superb! good grip, better responsiveness. Front mez1 replaced by pilot sport. A little more nimble. The problem with the Mez1 was that it took a bad profil after a few thousand kilometers and made it dangerously edgy when hard leaning (eg: scrapped fearing...) The bad point is perhaps suspensions. The bike moves a little when hard charging but I am not qualified to analyse it. 10/04/02 indeed these movements were due to the Michelin, which have a too soft structure. And the 180 pilot rear was ok for slow riding but crap for hard charging. It is due to the profile of the tyre, which is not good at all for leaning (the bike don't want to lean after a certain angle. Don't buy ¨pilot in 180 for 6" rim. 190 should be ok?... but not as good as the Dunlop D207. Good grip, slider scrapped (first time) very good confidence when leaned over. (At Magny-Cours for exemple, the Estoril curve, very long, at 130/140 km/h superb!) The only bad point is overheating after a full day of track riding (blue colour on the side) anyway, this bike is sold with these tyres! see Aprilia section.

| Problems: Gas tank recalled/replaced. Clutch slipping into neutral. Clutch cover warped (started out as what I originally thought was a leak), replace along with o-rings, screws (Not covered by Suzuki). Took a bit of prompting, but they finally admitted that this was a problem they were seeing recently. Piece is warping due to the excessive heat being generated by engine. Poor gas mileage - is there way to fix this? | |||
|
Comments:
I'm now seeing a new problem - I can't fill my tank to full (It's the new tank after recall), it leaks excessively through the over-flow tube. Any suggestions??? Any modifications that anyone can suggest that will make this ride even more fun? I didn't receive a recall for the ECU - can someone tell me what this is about and what I should be looking out for?? Still, with all my hiccups, I still love this bike - don't ride it much (always working), but I love it! I was thinking of selling it...but it's hard to justify getting rid of a bike like this.

Comments:
Hands down, best bike I've ever owned. I wouldn't recommend it for a first bike (it's just too fast), but it would make a great 2nd or 3rd bike for anyone with sportbike fever. 07/24/01: Still love the bike. This bike gets the stares everywhere I go, even over full custom paint jobs. Fixing the 2nd gear 4k stumble/dump issue is paramount because it's more than an annoyance, it's a downright hazzard (w/o the PCII). With the PCII it's still noticable on hard throttle dumps, but not nearly as bad. 03/12/02: Still totally in love with the bike.

| Accessories: Full race Yosh stainless, alum. cans. custom rearsets, Graves clutch cover, Hyperpro damper, Powercommander II, K&N filter, windscreen, signals, brake lines, Nissin 6 piston calipers off ZX 7 rr | |||
| Modifications: TLR pistons, cams, Suzuki kit valve springs. I've also had .020 off the heads and the cylinders to set the squish properly. With a competition valve grind with a small amount of porting (cleaning up ports). It is around 12.8:1 now whereas stock was an actual 10.8:1 not the 11.3:1 it claims. The bike makes 122 peak horsepower. It makes 80 ft-lbs peak at 6800 rpm, with a gain of 15 ft-lbs at 4200 rpm, up to 70 ft-lbs from 55 ft-lbs in stock trim. Very impressive for minor mods. It makes peak horsepower early at 8200 rpm and I think I have to add more fuel up top where it should make around 125 to 130 is my guess just by looking at the dyno chart. I modified my airbox by removing the flapper valve and then cutting the inlets bigger.(this bike really needs a better ram air system) My bike pulled dead even with a 2001 GSXR 1000 in third and fourth gear. I installed a Penske rear shock conversion and had the forks revalved and resprung to match. Body Double one piece upper and a solo tail are mounted without headlights. I am going to use projection beam lights. I custom built a new battery box, ignitor and power commander bracket under the seat and tail section that got rid of the stock undertray. I have also polished the frame and swing arm (looks real sweet). | |||
| Problems: I have had a lot of problems with this bike, mostly minor things like the stalling and stumbling fuel injection. The gas tank leaked fuel. The clutch was slipping in third gear badly, and the clutch cover was leaking also. Now my frame is cracked about 6 to 8 inches down from the steering head under the bottom side of the frame on the cast alum section of frame, not really where you would expect it to crack. SUZUKI CANADA HAS REPLACED MY FRAME FOR ME WITHOUT ANY HASSLES, RIGHT ON SUZUKI !!!! I just replaced a bunch of gears in the tranny and the shift mechanism shaft, no problem really, just simply wore out from 30k of hard riding and alot of fun. | |||
|
Comments:
Love the bike, it really is a shame Suzuki discontinued such an under developed bike, with a few simple mods and such a great motor it really is a superbike in disquise. Great power and good looks makes for a super fun bike.

I really love this bike. Seems to get a lot of attention here where I live(only one or two others around). Yosh pipe makes Harley types look, hehehe! | Accessories: Powerbronze Belly Pan - Its really smartened the look of the bottom up. Its a bit fiddley to fit the two parts of the pan together AND make it look good. Also fitted a Nuvo Double bubble screen which although has reduced wind blast to zero at silly speeds, now means that all my weight is supported on my wrists and elbows, not aided by a bit of wind going onto your chest...
| Modifications: Nuvo Double bubble screen... Jury's out. Clear Alternatives rear light lens with red bulbs...10/10! Flush fitting indicators front and rear. Looks well smart. Junked the number plate unit in favour of a Acrybre Under tray kit with small plate and a Harley Davidson custom Plate light. Looks wicked with the flush indicators and clear rear light. NCS can hangers... nice elegant hangers with no foot rests. Really sleek to look at. ART Race exhausts in alloy and fuel injection re-map by Stringer Race Station in Stoke Golding. The bike sounds as good as it looks and goes as good as it sounds. If any body needs any ideas re fitting these kinda things, give me a shout, 'cos I sure as hell wish I'd had some help!!! 30/Oct/01 Fitted 16t front sprocket. What a difference! Pulls more smoothly, wheelies out of every corner if you want it to, and you're always "In the revs". Can't believe it doesn't come with a 16t-er as standard! Fit one NOW!! | |||
| Problems: It doesn't like the cold much, and takes a while to warm up. Since the re-mapping there's been no more hunting or stalling. The only real grouse is the tank range. My fuel light comes on after 110 miles, and as there's no reserve I'm reticent to see how long it would really go between tankfulls. | |||
|
Comments:
My last bike was a ZX6R which was scary fast, but the TL is in a different league. I love the looks, the big imposing profile, the noise, everything apart from the tank range! I don't find the rear suspension a problem, but I think thats because I'm a bit heavy. It suits my size (6'1", 15 stone) and style.

| For Sale: The whole bike's going... I got it on the dealer finance scheme, second hand values are falling and She'll need an MOT this time next year, so I've part ex-ed it against an Aprilia RSV. If anybody fancies it, call directory enquiries and ask for "Junction 3 Motorcycles" in Bedworth and ask 'em about it. Will I miss it? There's a strong possibility... | |||

Comments:
Best bike owned yet and great for the Sunday 'stroll' or the trackday scratch. D&D's sound delicious and loud - grannies and children go running for cover when they hear the TL.

| Problems: 11/10/2001: I currently have the bike in the shop for an oil leak on the front cylinder. They called and said it was either fron extended wheelies or bad oil rings. I don't do extended wheelies so I guess it's the oil rings. 03/17/2002: Finally found out the Suzuki put the view window too high and the oil leak was blow out from having too much oil. Suzuki recommended 1/8 of an inch above bottom of the looking window. I have had no oil leaking since. Finally!!! | |||

Comments:
I Love this bike. The power is crazy. There is nothing like pulling wheelies in first and second gear with the twist of the grip. All stumbling and stalling stopped after 2,000 miles. I keep getting more and more power as the miles go on. Had the compression checked when oil leak was found and it has less than 1% compression leak!!!!
