I have had this problem with it blowing ignition fuses it currently has a 10amp fuse is this too low email me please if you have had the same problem. Other problems ive had is when it's got too hot b4 fuel injection warning come on let it cool down been fine since.

Problems: None. The only problem I have now is that it is just too quick too easily. 70mph corners have turned into 90mph corners and short shifting thro' the box gets you 130mph before you know it.
Comments:
Awesome. I was going to buy an R6 until I rode this bike. The R6 was v. boring by comparison. The bike came with Pirelli Dragons which were changed to Bridgestones quickly as they seemed to move around too much. I increased the rear preload to show 10mm thread, softened the rear damping and dropped the front forks 3mmm. The bike is now very planted mid corner, turns tightly and inspires confidence.
For Sale: This Bike. Before I lose my license.

Comments:
i bought the bike as a parrallel import, although i have only done 1500 miles i can tell the bike is worlds apart from my previous bikes (zxr750, bandit 1200)the bike has bags of torque low down .the fuel injection system is far from perfect, investment in a remap/power commander is on the cards, riding the bike requires total commitment when cornering as with the standard steering damper the front feels vague.this could be down to the standard set up or tyres.after reading through this site and seeing all the opinions on the bike there are so many different ways of setting the bike up, i guess its just trial and error.i bought this bike after years of saving for a ducati, i have always wanted one but was put off in the end because of price and reliability.although tl,s have had their share of problems down the years i really rate this bike, they are a real looker and with the right exhausts bolted on they sound great.they are cheap and with some cash spent on a damper/shock,im sure it will handle as well as it looks.if anyone has any useful set up advice for the bike with the standard damper/shock, front suspension set up for someone weighing approx 80kg i would be grateful if they would email me.

Problems: none, still running it in. Actually I went for a ride around some hills and driving out of some corners the clutch would slip. on the flat it would slip if you hard accelerate in second and third gear (not sure about the rest) from three and a half thousand revs to five. this cant be normal, the bikes brand new and the clutch is sliping. took it in for the 1000km service, they changed the oil and filter.I took it for a ride and the clutch doesn,t seem to be slipping anymore, but I haven,t taken it around the hills yet so that will be the big test for it,I,ll try and do that soon.Took it for a ride after the new year and found the clutch was slipping again, took it to the dealer and they took the clutch plate cover off and adjusted the clutch lifting mechanism and it seems to be fixed.I just started to notice the oil level slowley rising,i,ve heard this is petrol in the oil.I,ve tried turning the choke lever to full before turning it on and starting it all the time and it seems to have fixed it, but still might change the oil every 3000kms just to be on the safe side. Is it normal for one exhaust to be richer than the other?its the right one which is the back cylinder. when I first got the 16th sprocket I found the rear suspension quite stiff,so I got someone to sit on it and saw that the chain was pretty much running along the plastic swingarm guard, so I adjusted it to give about 40mm of slack and it seems to be back to normal now.
Comments:
its hard to get used to the throttle response,I had a 1996 GSXR750wt before this and you could be really hamfisted with the throttle and it would run along pretty smooth, but you cant do that with the TL, the slightest movement of the throttle has the bike jerking back and ford...... I.ve never ridden a bike that wheelies so easily, I,m still running it in and its popping little wheelies all over the place. makes a four cylinder seem really boaring, cant see myself going back to one, not for a long time anyway........wheelies good in first but cant get it to wheelie in second...... I take it back,I,m getting the hang of it now, I can do them in second ,not by just accelerateing, but by getting it at about seven thousand revs, and give it a hoist and it will gome up easily. It will come up just off acceleration if theres a bump to set it off....... Can wheelie as low as 30kmh in first with a hoist..... It wheelies easy,re now with the smaller sprocket on..... Avons are quite good, they re not really sticky not like the hi sports I had on the GSXR (when you finally got them warm)but they,re definitly better than the metzelers.I am thinking about some bt56ss next or some pilot sports, I was keen on the bt56ss but heard they wear out quickly.... michelin pilot sport's are great-they are the best tyres I have had-not as sticky as the 'hi sports race 3' when they finally warmed up, but in the 3-4000kms I had them for they only got warm 3 times and if they wern't warm they were quite crap so they have to rate over them for road riding unless you constantly ride in 30 degrees C heat..... the HANDLING is quite good I reckon, even better since I dropped the forks 1.5-2mm, I dropped them by 5mm first off but that was too much- to unstable over bumps. initialy I backed off the preload to minimum which was really good but the forks would bottom comming down from wheelies, so I settled on no.6 and dropped the forks which I think is probably just as good. the only downfall on its handling is you can,t seem to get on the gas as early as it feels you could. I don,t know if its the shock-the way it makes it power-the tyres or what...... problem solved, get an ohlins shock, it,s great, makes it feel like a normal bike at the rear, also makes it hold a tighter line, and the 180 makes turn in a bit faster and generally makes the front end feel a bit better, if you,ve got the money and want you,re bike to handle really well buy one. there,s just one little problem, you can feel the front isn,t quite as good as the back now, might go for a set of ohlins fork springs and valves next....... much better , goe's over bumps really well, in a straight line, and especially banked over going over ripples in the road ,it gives you more confidence to push harder, I am now able to back the preload right off to minimum without the forks bottoming out. ( its a brilliant bike now,I see no reason to change)

Modifications: Cleaned up rear mud guard with rotary tool; relocated license plate and added smaller turn signals; removed factory steering damper and all brackets; dropped countershaft sprocket a tooth to 16; added K&N air filter; just PROUDLY added a M4 carbon fiber 2-1 Full race system...OH MY...added stainless steel brake lines - great mod. Just changed tires to Dunlop D-207's. Got 7,000 miles + from the front Race Metzeler and about 4,300 out the rear Metzeler (street compound). Unplugged flapper valve.
Problems: Excessive rear tire wear; Can't keep front wheel down; provokes WFO outburst whenever released from the garage. This thing is a major liability to my driver's license. 12/09/99 Found oil leaking from front cylinder exhaust port. Blown valve seals...rounded off back torque limiter, clutch adjustment/fix performed because of slipping. Tank seal went south...replaced tank under recall waranty.
Comments:
Keep an eye on those rear rotary damper mounting nuts; they loosen. Added 16 tooth countershaft sprocket. Spins much faster and front wheel comes up much more easily. $20 well spent. Added Power Commander and WOW what a difference. Really smoothes out throttle response. Installed K&N air filter and noticed immediately improved gas mileage.Tried to set sag for my body weight (200 pounds) and discovered that even with the front preload and rear preload set at max, I am still seeing just a tad more sag than I wanted. Bike handles much better now, especially through rippled corners. The down side is that now I am REALLY stretching to touch the ground (my Corbin seat doesn't help either). But it was all worth it. Really like the M4 system. Do yourself a favor and check to see if your chain is too tight. Should be adjusted a little on the loose side...to tight and the rear suspension will be adversely affected. Email me and I will tell you exactly what to do. Also upgraded clutch and replaced ramp on back torque limiter. Sound it was rounded off...told me to take it easy on my girl, I'm riding her too hard. Please. What the hell was it designed for? Bike has been performing very well. Just looking for a fairing lower that looks like a chin fairing. Been very happy with this baby...I think i am going to keep her. 05/10/00 new tires front and back. The D207's seem to work really well for the TL. Ride is not as harsh as with the Metzelers, and the ride is very smooth and stable. Used an easy mod to disable the flapper valve in the airbox...just about eliminated the throttel twitcheness @ low RPM. Super easy to do and very effective.
For Sale: Bike has been SOLD!!! For sale: TBR handle bar risers adjustable...$200; Dynojet Power Commander (1st gen w/ software)...make offer; Complete stock exhaust...make offer.

Accessories: Carbon fiber levers, Suzuki gel seat, Carbon Werkes tank guard. 04/16/2001 Just added Heli-bars and Pro-Grip Gel grips. Now I have to wait for it to stop snowing so I can see how the new bars feel.
Modifications: None yet. I will be looking at a set of Yoshimura Slip-ons (not sure if they are Zyclone or Race yet) and TBR slip-ons. Haven't decided yet.
Problems: 04/02/2001 Still in the break-in period but it stumbles around 3-4k. Also had a problem with the bike sliding on its side down the freeway, but I can't blame Suzuki for that one ;) 04/16/2001 Almost 1200 miles on the bike so far and most of the problems are gone. Still stumbles a bit in the 3k-4k range but no where near as bad as before. This bike screams.
Comments:
Seems like a damn good bike so far. I am happy that I traded my Bandit600 in for this one. 04/16/2001 Like I said above, this bike screams. Runs with the ZX-9R's, VTR1000's, CBR900RR's, and older GSX-R750's but still cant keep up with the R1's and 929's or new GSX-R750's. Cant wait for a few extra horsies. This bike is now dead. I am lucky to be alive. I am finally walking around again, with the help of crutches, after a very painful collision with an old bastard. After riding for around about 5 hours on the 21st of April I decided to head home. My friend was riding behind me, about 4-5 seconds back, when some stupid 80 year old man decided to make a left turn across traffic right in front of me. He started pulling out when I was about 20 feet away from him and he never even saw me. I suffered some nasty lacerations and a broken right leg and the bike is equally as bad. It is a good thing I am 0% at fault here(thanks to all of the witnesses and the old f*cker changing his story several times on what happened)so now I have to see what the attorney is going to get for me. The insurance company wanted to give me $5000 for my brand new (1500miles) 2000 TL1000s. Screw them. Anyway, hope to be on another TL soon.
For Sale: I am looking for Two-Brothers slip-ons and red upper fairings(both sides, to replace the one with that nasty rash and the other side that decided that it wanted to break too). E-mail me.

Green 1997 TL1000S (Updated: 2001.5.2)

Usage: 7,900 miles, Street/Sport.
Tires: Bridgestone BT56SS front and rear
Owner: Dave Baay
Email to Dave Baay
Location: USA (SouthWest) -- Colorado Springs, CO
Experience: 11 years street
Bikes Owned: 3
Accessories: Heli bars, HyperPro steering damper, M4 2-1 stainless/titanium full exhaust, Pyramid Plastics solo seat cowl, LP stuff: swingarm buttons, carbon heel guards and triple tree cover, Ti-look aluminum bolt kit, aluminum fairing stay, footpegs, chain guard and steering stem nut.
Modifications: All factory recall work done before purchase, except tank replacement, which was done shortly afterward. Removed and bypassed starter interlock switch on clutch lever to allow preferred positioning of the lever. Dropped one tooth on the counter-shaft sprocket. Removed all warning stickers and reflectors. Cut off bungee hooks, and left-side passenger peg/exhaust hanger mount.
Problems: Any minor problems were rendered insignificant by the BIG PROBLEM: While running about 1000 rpm shy of redline in 5th gear and still accelerating at about 130mph, the motor suddeny quit pulling, and after shifting up to 6th, continued to lose speed. When I slowed down enough to hear the engine over the wind noise, I could hear it knocking badly. To make a long story short, the motor somehow got oil starved, though it was properly filled with 1500-mile-old oil, and the pump appeared to be okay. Both rod bearing were spun, and the cam chain idler bearings were trashed. Suzuki rebuilt the motor under warranty, but I was without a bike for almost 8 weeks in the spring, and I was pretty disgusted to have to rebuild the motor after 5500 miles of only moderately-aggressive street riding. Never really got a good answer on why oil pressure was apparently lost, but several others on the TL list have reported the identical failure mode, and I suspect that the TL has a problem with both foaming oil from the crank turbulence, and possibly slow drain-back to the sump at high engine speeds. 2000 SV650 got a windage tray to solve a similar problem with the '99s. Seems to be okay now, but I try not to rev it over 9000 now, and I haven't done any extended high-speed runs for a long time. Only other problem is a resonant metallic rattle coming from the airbox/tank area at about 4000 rpm under WOT. I think something is loose or mis-mouted, and the airbox is vibrating against the tank. Started shortly after the rebuild, but the shop would not own up to a problem. Planning to check it out myself this weekend.
Comments:
Took several months to get used to the weight on my hands, and get over sore wrists and numb hands, even with the Heli bars. Haven't seen anything like the stumbling problems described by some owners both before and after ECU upgrades, though the throttle is touchy at tip-in. BT56SS are wearing better than the Metzelers did, and feel better to boot. I've gone back to a 190 to get better wear after trying a 180 for better handling. Narrower tire provides slightly quicker transitional handling than stock, but a fresh 190 feels better than a worn 180. Lower gearing feels much more tractable and responsive, without compromising top-gear cruising comfort (only 6% increase in revs); I highly recommend this mod, especially if your horsepower is off due to altitude, as mine is, but it might be preferable to go with a larger rear sprocket, rather than a smaller front, in order not to increase stress on the chain and buffer. M4 exhaust looks and sounds sweet, runs great without a PCII (though it does seem a little lean), and saves 16 lbs total over the stock 2-2. See Bryan Whitton at http://ridelite.com for a good price and attentive service. Was sorely tempted by many new faster, better-handling bikes coming out the last two years, but nothing has the soul of the TL for the price, and I've decided to spend a little money sprucing her up instead of trading her in, especially since the motor seems pretty sound at this point, and she's otherwise pretty clean (and Green!). Next up: Ohlins rear shock.

Problems: None only had bike a week.10/10/00 now i,ve started riding the bike harder the clutch will slip if the throttle is opened quickly, what is the best cure for this as there seems to be several suggested fixes. also bike seems to be running a bit rich as the exhausts seem quite black at the ends, is this normal or is there a fix.
Comments:
Never owned a twin before, but the more i ride it the better it gets,10/10/00 starting to use full throttle now and it just goes mental, it's an animal, roll on dry weather 24/03/01 still waiting

Problems: Loose steering assembly, too much wheelies!(fixed) Stumbles with only one piston working at low RPM(Spark plug cap shorted) -too much water during cleaning-. It's now fixed
Comments:
Ok, you will probably get better top speed with an inline four bike but it is so much fun to drive in the city where top speed isn't everything but 'torque' is. If you want a bike with power on-demand then I would recommend it to anyone.

Problems: compared to my gixxer750, horrible gas mileage
Comments:
This is my first twin, and i am still adjusting to it since i have only had for two months. I always rode inline fours before. Really like the grunt of the twin though, and the exhaust note really turns some heads. Way easier to wheelie than my 97 gixxer 750.

It's ok to phone me with questions but keep it before 9:00 pm and after 9:00am After breakin I put the Carbon cans on and I need to say the Vance & Hines guys have done a great job with the sound!!!! I thought DUK's sounded good...but Damn the TL sounds better!!!

Accessories: I've got a full Akrapovich titanium exhaust system, Goodridge brake hosing, blue engine bolt kit, headlamp protector, aluminium exhaust hangers (replaces rear footrests), carbon heel plates, little number plate. Bellypan in carbon-look. Carbon-look tank protector. Carbon rear hugger.
Modifications: Removed the TL1000S stickers from down the side of the fairing. Stuck on a few AGIP stickers to replace them. Fitted a black belly pan and had the wheels painted black. With the belly pan and wheels the bike looks better balanced, low and mean. Started doing using it for commuting to work. Four days before I got my first pull for the strip number plate. Didn't say anthing about my exhaust so I pulled away slowly. Change to Bridgstones as more motorway riding meant my Metzs were wearing square. Hold there shape better but back not as grippy.
Problems: The usuals. Had EMU replaced because of stalling. Stick runs jerky at low revs though. Slight seep from front forks - could be wheelies but I don't slam down too often. Plan to have the front and rear suspension re-worked as soon as I've got the cash. Have an oil breather hole at the front of the engine that breathes a little oil every outing but nothing too worrying. Single seat unit still rubbing - worn through the foam I placed there for protection and is nibbling the paintwork again !
Comments:
Going in soon to have the tank replaced under warranty. Looks completely unique and draws the crowd away from the bloated TLRs (but if I had to spend the money again I'd be now on the R1 I'm afraid). SOLD IT. Sorry fellow TL1000 owners but due to 100 mile daily commute I've traded in for a '99 full power Hayabusa. Enjoy your bikes though, they are wicked!
