Problems: This wonderful bike is no more. Was rear-ended by a car going about 25mph. The bike was a total loss. Now, I'm looking to replace it. What a fucking shame. (Hit-and-run too. The bastard.)
Comments:
Factory suspension settings were too soft. Otherwise handles great. No problems.

Accessories: Edge cans, Sprint stearing damper (better than Suzuki's none adjustable), Goodridge brake hoses, SBK 3 brake pads.
Modifications: Still playing with suspension, forks dropped thro' yokes 5mm. Removing the standard steering damper transformed the bike responce.
Problems: Leaking oil seal-fixed by dealer, Mirror-replaced by dealer, Slipping clutch-sorted by dealer (Suzuki GB do a shim kit to sort this but not all dealers will admit that its a common problem!), Tank replaced-by dealer Bike written off by car last summer, but will be back on the road for 2001.
Comments:
Much under rated bike. Good at suprising so called "superior" sportsbikes around the track or on the road.
For Sale: TL1000sv black fairing panels. RH light scuffs, LH minor scuff. Make me an offer!

Accessories: Pitched Rear Hump & Replaced with EuroBikes rear solo cowl - Now it looks like Suzuki should have wanted it to look! This is recommended to every TL-S owner. Clean & smooth, great paint, too. Call them or look on their website.
Modifications: Yosh RS-3 race slip-ons. Much better sound, helped 4K stumbles afer first 500 miles. Also new K&N filter - again, better EFI response. Engine rocks now! Also installed Heli-Bars for longer rides - much better position.
Problems: Bought bike in Southern Cal. and wore both tires down in first 1500 miles in the canyons. Then moved to North Texas and found tires wear a lot longer here! Can't find any canyon roads. Had to firm up front preload, everything else works great!
Comments:
Great bike - twins are the way to go. Before buying the TL-S I tested the Honda, Buell, and two Ducatis. Suzuki has the best engine of all hands down. When will Suzuki get serious with the TL-R?

77777:
Green 97 TL1000SV (Updated: 2001.2.15)
Purchased: July 98
Usage: 16,800 miles, Street/Sport, Racetrack.
Tires: Dunlop 207GP
Owner: Mark Cunningham
Email to Mark Cunningham
Location: USA (California) -- San Diego
Experience: 24 yrs, all areas, off-road, street. roadrace
Bikes Owned: 21
Accessories: Yoshimura Slipons, Telefix adj clipons, windscreen, LP tank bra, kevlar brake lines, LE fork revalve, eibach springs front and rear, 14tooth front sprocket, Dunlop 207s, alum exhaust brackets, Ohlins shock, AFAM kit, fwd battery box.
Modifications: After much trial and error here you go: Engine, slipons YOSH with YOSH remap, use the stock filter, the K&N makes it too lean and the YOSH box has a hardtime adjusting for it. In San Diego, use National City Cycle for the re-map. We also found out that TL's have a problem with the cam chain adjusters freezing up and not advancing. Sure enough, mine did, both of them. You either replace them or do the cheap thing and remove the lock bolt and push in with a small philips screwdriver and you will feel one or two click of advancement. After I did that the motor smoothed out considerably. Remove the flapper valve, buy the '98 thermostat housing and install the temp sensor there vs the radiator (if you have a 97), the thermo housing will give higher (real) coolant temps, run the NGK 9 heat range plugs, w/these mods superb throttle response and 117 rwhp and avg 31mpg. Chassis: slide fork tubes 15mm up, keep the steering head bearings snug and check them regularly, take the steering dampner apart and drill (2) 1/16 holes in the piston, reassemble with ATF or fork oil, or take it off and really enjoy the steering!!, revalve the fork (excessive compression damping and not enough rebound regardless of rider weight), I am 215lbs with gear. The rear... the Lindeman Engineering/Penske shock works, so does the Olhins, but both are expensive. You can take the dampner apart and change the oil to 0-15w synthetic oil, that worked pretty good. At a minimum, build a heat shield and wrap the front and rear header pipe with insulating wrap. What I ended up doing was using a Fox dampner without spring for a CBR600F3 (weighs about the same and uses no linkage) and bolted to the swingarm where the stock arm mounts, I fabricated a simple alum bracket for the top mount. Superb susp action... I should probably sell kits! FEB2001 update, blew the shock, bought on Ohlins, paid $650, love it, the rear is so good now that I dont notice it. LASTLY I MOVED THE 9 lb battery forward in a nice alum box, just behind and below the radiator left side. If interested I will send you pictures. This gave the bike an immediate front weight bias of 51.3%, talk about front end feedback! The last things include cleaning up the rear end and fabricating alum exhaust hanger brackets. I use the EBC pads, one grade down from full race, very good with far better feel. Next effort to convert my bike into three bikes, a naked version, a full race version, and a stock appearing for sport riding. In progress......
Problems: No oil leaks, no waterpump leaks, no clutch slipping, fading rear rotary dampner, missing between 3-4000 rpm (fixed w/Yosh adjuster box).
Comments:
The stock pipes are stainless and look great polished. My first 12" of header is insulate wrapped. This has been a fun bike to make right. If you contrast it to any modern sport bike you really end up doing the same stuff... pipe, shock, brakes, jet kit or remap, and now I will put my TL1000SV against any superbike. Lets face it, the bulk of the equation is the rider, but I will tell you, this bike makes it easy, especially on the ultra tight roads. I love it, next project, TL1000R motor transplant.....
For Sale: Looking for TL1000S parts, and a TL1000R motor with all electronics, exhaust, injection etc. If you have crashed TL1000S tank, fairing, etc... I want it (for track days!).

Accessories: Flush turn signals, TwoBrothers slipons, K&N airfilter, 1/2 tankbra, 16 tooth front sprocket
Modifications: Removed uglyass back fender, use YOSH box +5, +5, +5
Problems: Not a whole lot, oil is currently being blown in the airbox, talked to local Ducati dealer and was told it was a common accurance for a twin. I would really appreciate any input on this info. Back tires wear too quickly like everone else. Picked up a nail in MZ1 rear replaced with another expensive ass MZ1 and it started chunking at about 3700 miles later. So I went to 207's Also pipes cause car alarms to go off! Ole Man Winter is killing me, coming from Louisiana, no time to ride, rode acouple of times in Nov., once on Dec 5th, and again on Jan. 5th, snow and ice!!!!! Cant wait for this white stuff to go away.
Comments:
Had bike run on BEAUDRY'S DUCSHOP DYNO, it put out 109.6 hp and 69.5 ftlbs, they said it was running alittle rich yet there were no dips what so ever in the powercurve. Would removeing the flapper improve performance, or even lean it out alittle? Also considering to try a PowercommanderII any input would be appreciated. 1st gear wheelies are just a twist of the throttle away and the wife really loves to go verticle. All other bikes owned were 4 cylinders can't say that I will ever go back. Hopefully Suzuki will put a TL engine for 2002 in a GSXR frame with high mount exhaust, if so I might consider buying another bike!!

Problems: Laid it on its side the first week I had it. Combination of very cold tyres, very cold road, very harsh power delivery compared to the CB750, turning the corner at the end of my street. New brake pedal, brake lever, minor scratches.
Comments:
Can't get enough of the intoxicating power, I just love it. Glad I bought a twin, and now I'm even gladder cos it sounds like a twin should. Bottom end and midrange feel smoother and stronger.

Modifications: Whoops, look up!!
Problems: All the usual--fuel tank/pump, steering dampner added and mount has been upgraded, new computer, and FRAME!! This has scared me but I will still ride it. I was lucky enough to have my frame break while I was doing like 70MPH and it stayed up until I was stopped, I was lucky. Suzuki, without any hesitations(the dealer had Suzuki's OK to repair the bike in 15 MINUTES!!) They replaced the frame, steering dampner mount, right and left front uppers, gas tank, radiator, and one ram air faceplate and air duct. Oil leak from the seep-hole below the water pump, that was only a few seal to replace, no big deal. That also is why some people's oil level seems to rise. Going through tires a lot, have bought 4 sets this year. I have heard good reviews about the Bridgestone Dual Aligned Compound BT-56SS so I am going to give those a try. I stayed with the 190-50 rear though. I tried the 180-55 but felt like I had less stability on wheelies but that could be just that I was not used to it yet.
Comments:
I LOVE the bike!!!! Now, I might get rid of it sometime but I would only trade it for another V-Twin. The best throttle response durring a wheelie that I have ever had. By the way, my record wheelie is 3.4 miles long and 165ish paced by a 1999 GSZR750. For some reason, I fear the stoppies. Did I mention wheelies from hell?? Well, the bike has had it's fair share of problems but I feel like it is the price to pay for the fun factor this bike achieves. Not too many twisties around here, a lot of straight's. More practice for those wheelies. No tankslappers but don't feel like taking the dampner off. I believe that it doesn't really get in the way that much. Now have the transmission slipping in 3rd gear. I believe that is from the wheelies. Might be easier to just find a used engine and throw that back in. IF ANYBODY HAS ANY QUESTIONS, FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL ME WITH ANY QUESTION.
For Sale: For Sale- Stock front turn signals, windscreen, front sprocket, and chain. Wanted- I AM IN NEED OF AN ENGINE!!!!
