Accessories: IRP frame & bar sliders, SecondLook tank bra & seat covers, Competition Werkes fender eliminator kit, Yoshimura aluminum clutch cover
Modifications: Yoshimura RS-3 system (stainless/aluminum), fork dropped 12mm (per Jaime's web page suspension settings)
Problems: Side cover leaked when purchased, dealer gooped it up and it leaked intermittently, Yosh cover solved problem for good (dealer warentee'd the stock cover and gave me credit toward the Yosh). Have usual rough spot (constant throttle at ~3k rpm). Have not done the ECU recall (do not want to lose the 10hp). Windscreen rattles on right side. Grips are WAY too small for my long fingers, causes cramping in my hands after 40 minutes or so.
Comments:
Love the bike! Get 38mpg, goes like a bat-out-of-hell (even with my 6'3"/210lbs body on it). Will be upgrading the air filter and then remapping the original (i.e. non-recalled) ECU. I have been told the recall ECU take the 1997 from 114hp to 108hp. No-thanks! Live near Lindemann Engineering and may do his Penski shock setup later. Would like to find a way to eliminate the tank slap problem without have a steering damper on the bike. The damper seems to take a lot of the beautiful handling away.

Problems: BIG tank slappers till re-call damper.tank leak, replaced on warr.oil leak from clutch cover, cover changed on warr. Top bolt in damper broke off in frame, repaired on warr."tl1000s"decals fell off, side stand fell off. rear axel bolt loosened replaced with castle nut and drilled axel for pin.lots of nuts and bolts falling off, keep tightening everything.coolant weep from hole below pump became a torrent due to wear on shaft and impellar. fixed by placing plastic washer on the bolt that holds the impellar, now bone dry, will do till shaft ect. can be replaced. re shimmed valves at 14,000 FRAME CRACKED at the damper, suzuki fixed on warr. by welding the flange back together lasted for a month or so till the bike was out of warr. back to suzuki ireland after 4 months of DISCUSSION I was given a free frame but had to fit it myself, took another month, now back on the road but considering fitting ohlins su 805 in place of the rotary damper becouse the new frame will suffer from the same stresses as broke the old one . Leaking coolant again after replacing the impeller and seal looking for another plastic washer the same as fixed it before.
Comments:
with all its faults I love this bike, but I am pissed off with suzuki and and I will never own another of their bikes.

Accessories: Yoshimura RS3 Slip-ons, Lockhart 1/2 Tank Bra, 16-tooth counter, FirstGear Tank bag,
Modifications: Removed warning labels and select reflectors Mount plate over rear reflector, cut rear fender up under plate
Problems: Normal problems with ECU's and TPS adjustment. Notice clutch slipping around 4k - shimmed with washers and appears to be fine. Engine ticking sounds louder lately - but could be in my head. Thinking about cam chain adjuster replacement? Please email me with any info on whether this takes care of the 'infamous' ticking coming from the valvetrain area. Maybe I'm just paranoid!!
Comments:
Love/Hate relationship - Easy to overlook anytime I crack open the V-twin power on those tight backroads though. Will be tough to ever go back to an in line four!

Modifications: The cruise control had to be modified as per info from this websites FAQ section. The Airtech lower fairing flat-out SUCKED.The first one I got arrived cracked, and the second one did'nt fit the bike at all. I had to cut half of it off, and line it with heat resistant cloth to make it work.It might sound like I'm bitchin' but it still looks good.
Problems: Blemishes on the frame (can't seem to get rid of them). Not enough hours in the day to ride this thing!
Comments:
The little things bother me though, such as the rising oil level phenomenon, fuel inj. cant be adjusted below 4000 rpm(ever),the recall upon recall to the FI & gas tank fixed, rotory damper is a waste($$$ to replace). I guess the days of slappin' a pipe & a jet kit on ,and being happy are gone forever

Modifications: lowered triple clamp 2cm-using castrol sinth. break fluid-painted-removed every bit of useless poundage I could-moved rear wheel back as far as I could by way of slightly longer chain-remapped FI system several times!!-sealed air box-did a lot of clutch work!!-chopped tail
Problems: I bought the bike at the shop I worked at with about 1500 miles on it. Shortly there after I started encountering a slipping clutch- the prob. was solved with clutch spring shimms and new plates. Next, a lot of F.I. tuning was needed to smooth out the power band. I must say I do still encounter a backfire pop at arount 4 to 5,000 rpm's during motorbreaking but power is great. The last problem that needed work was handling; this was fixed by SHIT-CANNING the stock Metz. rubber and fitting tried and true dunlops. As an after thought, I also sealed the airbox of leaks.
Comments:
Having years of street and track experiance plus working at a shop, I can say a well set-up TL is one of the best sport twins in history. All the guys at the shop agree and I would guess 2/3 of my customers, with a clue, do also. Ducks are nice, but for the money go with a TL!

Problems: Gas in the oil at 600 mile oil change (cured). F.I. error on start up sometimes, had ECU changed, but it didn't fix the problem. Problem ultimately solved when service guy noticed a cut ignition wire that wouldn't make contact all the time.
Comments:
Seems like a lot of people complain abou this bike and Suzuki, but I love my baby to death, thru the recalls and all. It's a full on beast and I can forgive it for all of it's problems.

Problems: past problems: stumbles, clutch slip, right directional wire fell out, battery died
Comments:
checked and adjusted tps and air bleed screws, some improvement. adjusted clutch worm gear,no slips. got new ECU on 10/3/97 no EFI problems, less power. 4/5/99 The Yoshimura YAFMS is well worth it, the new pipes and -5% idle +5% on all throttle positions made a huge difference, but I am still playing with it. Sounds Awesome! Yoshi pipes are beautiful! The suzuki 1/2 tank bra is nice. Tires now at 36 psig cold. And damping both ends at stiffer rebound settings, 1/4 softer compresion on rear, stiffer on front end.

Modifications: Vance & Hines carbon fiber/bolt ons. And soon to be added K&N air filter and remapping ECU with Yosh box.
Problems: Just the typical stumbling in 2nd gear(high rpms) and occassional stalling(very embarrasing). Hoping the remapp will do the trick.

Accessories: Yosh race only slip-ons, K&N air filter, Power Commander 2.
Modifications: Stickers and reflectors gone.
Problems: At 1000 miles the left side foot guard looking thing fell half way off, rotating into the shift linkage making it impossible to shift (easy fix with a new bolt from the dealer). At 2000 miles the motor was making such terrible noises that I was afraid to even ride it. I took it to the dealer at they said it would go away because it was (just) the cam chain. 300 miles later it is still doing it. I still get the famous false neutral between 5th and 6th.
Comments:
Power Commander is really slick. No more re-jetting, pulling apart carbs, just plug it in and tune away. Yosh pipes sound pretty cool. It just pisses me off that they cost so much. Back tire seeing some wear on it allready. Too many power breaks I guess. I'm pretty worried about the knocking coming out of the motor. What should I do? Keep bitching?
