Vetter fairing, lowers, hardbags from an 1985 Venture, Vetter trunk with LED lights. Additional instrument panel with voltmeter, aux fuel tank gauge, and clock. The bike has been fitted with an oil cooler/thermostat, custom Sargent touring seat and an auxillary fuel tank bringing total fuel capacity up to 7.5 gallons.

Comments:
The XJ1100J Maxim is the last year they made an XS11. It is an XS11, Maximized. This one has really been "MAXED". This bike has been tricked 6 ways to Sunday. The horsepower has been increased 33% at the rear wheel from significant engine mods. I have built this bike to go the distance for long distant cruising. It has ample room for storage of gear for long trips and is quite comfortable on very long trips as I have taken across the continent (North America) on several occassions. This bike is nicknamed Godzilla and is the ultimate maximized Maxim 1100.

Carburetors were all messed up, needed complete cleaning and correcting of jets (expensive) so gasoline wasn't spewed back into the airbox, and plugs didn't blacken. Also the strange "jacked up" linked braking (pedal activates rear and front left caliper) will need master cylinder rebuilt - doesn't work at all now.

At about 80K miles my head gasket blew because I stupidly never tightened the head bolts. I found new pistons & rings & a gasket set on ebay, so I rebuilt her top end a couple years ago. Been running strong ever since averaging about 350 miles per week commuting to San Francisco every day. Currently looking for a clutch perch as mine is roached.

This is the greatest bike I've ever owned - my everyday rider no matter the weather. I had an XS750 just before buying this one - the extra cylinder added the power I needed. Bought for $1400 in '87 with 14K miles, she's now approaching a penny a mile purchase price $1400/115K miles, and she will surpass it easily. Faster than just about anything else out there, awesome splitting traffic, even great in corners with TKat's fork brace, great rain bike, and super easy to repair and maintain. This bike can do everything well, and having installed the tunes onboard makes it an absolute joy to ride rain or shine. I just came across a non-running '79 Special with 27K miles that I bought for $200 and am getting ready to restore. Will probably put hard bags on it in addition to the same setup on my '81 to use on weekends for touring/camping. If you come out to Nor-Cal, give me a jingle - we've got some of the best roads in the world out here for riding.
