Comments:
Love this bike! Feels lighter and handles better than my ZX6! Plus the power, oh baby! The twin headlights look so sinister, I am looking for ducatis and suzukis for lunch. Nothing Honda makes can keep up and forget the R1.... The Mad Kawi rules!
| |||
| For Sale: I have a 1991 ZX6 for sale now that I got my new baby! It's got a full Erion racing exhaust (4 in 1), purple windshield, tank bra, superbike grips. It is black and has no blemishes whatsoever, it is pristine! Always garaged and never dropped, or even tilted far. Gotta see to believe. 31.8K. Asking $3,000. Make me an offer! | |||

| Experience: | i started riding when i was like ten or so on a decrepted, old cb80 or something like that and i rode that for a few years until a friend on mine put it in the San Jacinto river for me (thanks Joseph). i didnt start riding again until after i got out of the Army and i needed transportation so i bought my second bike, a 97 Suzuki GS500e, for way more than it was worth, which i got around may of '98. since then, ive just been out riding, having fun and trying to stay alive on the streets of houston | ||
| Bikes Owned: | 4 | ||
| Accessories: accessories? well, i have an Arai Quantum/e Raptor (a kick ass helmet if you can afford one) AGV Sport2 two piece riding suit, Alpine Star SP-1 gloves (great gloves but the break-in period is enough to make you want to toss them in a ditch) if you're looking for a good set of gloves, i really recomend the the Alpinestar SP-1's. they came through my wreck looking a little rough around the edges but other than that, they were still perfect.. ............................................ TOTALLED. | |||
| Modifications: full muzzy stainless with oval carbon fiber can. dyno jet jet kit.. ............................................ TOTALLED. | |||
| Problems: brakes suck, and the steering gets kind wiggly around 150mph. false neutrals everywhere. burned out clutch plates after 5000 miles. snapped main fairing brace, fixed by warentee. blew engine gasket just below headers, also fixed by warentee. ignition switch problem, soon to be fixed under warrentee. ............................................ Comments:
Had a YZF1000R Thunder Ace before the 9. The 9 is lighter, sharper, revs faster and I'm damn sure will burn a load less oil! On the down side it's more flighty over rough surfaces with less mid range, but the rush after 8 grand makes up for it all. The induction raw has so far stayed my need to fit a race can. Don't read the press, it makes as much power and is as fast as an R1, with a more resilient lump. It has more character then even the new Blade and more torque and top end rush then the GSX-R750. Go down any bumpy country road with the throttle pinned and tell me you want less weight and more power!!
| |||
| For Sale: Johnson Carbon Race can off the Thunder Ace. Fits most Fire Blades and probably ZX9's (haven't tried it yet). Bought for £295. Immaculate on offer for £95. | |||

| Modifications: Soon to chop off rear mud flap and re position plate. Perhaps chrome wheels and frame in a few years with pipe, air filter and jet kit. Thinking about flushed front indicators and purple wind shield. Maybe some purple or green brake and clutch levers and passenger pegs. This thing is awesome stock but I might get itchy for change in a few years | |||
| Problems: Idles rough and lurches slightly in first gear at idle in heavy traffic. I hear a valve or pinging noise from the engine. Could it be because the engine is still breaking in? That's the excuse my dealer gave me. I have been told tight valves or loose cams. Rough idle might be fixed by adjusting the carbs. hopefully. Major problem already is that the RPM gauge jumps from 0 - 4k. The engine idles relatively normally but it looks like an electrical problem in the tach. Will get it fixed under warranty at 1000 km servicing. Keeping this under 4k rpm is some mean persons idea of a cruel joke. It's tortue getting to that HP climax and having to stop or change gears back down. That b1tch is a tease. | |||

Change of values, this bike goes like the wind! If you suffer with that dreaded flat spot around 3 to 4 thousand, then get a Quill. Even before the Dyno kit it smoothed out the power curve, not a kink any where. Not sure how good it is, but the bike now produces 138 BHP at the rear wheel.

| Problems: Can be a bugger to find neutral when cold. Update: Went out for a run on sunday to north wales, approx. 50 miles into run, the bike started running rough, missing and generally losing power. Thought it may be the dreaded 'carb icing'. Finally ground to a halt at the side of the road. Left it for 5 mins while had a smoke, restarted it and no problem. Continued on the run. On the way back home after a sustained 90 Mph run, came to a roundabout and it cut out again ! it felt like a fuel problem so switched to reserve, started up o.k. so I jumped on and continued on my way. Five minutes later i'm on the motorway home and bugger me it starts missing again and losing power then cuts out again. This time it would only start on choke (engine was well within normal operating temp) as soon as you tried to knock off the choke it would die. Finally it would'nt start up at all - turned over o.k. and tried to catch several times, but would'nt start. After 4 hours of sitting on the hard shoulder of the motorway i was rescued by a fellow biker in a van, who helped me load the bike in the back and gave me a lift all the way home (what a star !) Arriving home we offloaded the bike (now known as the blue bastard) tried to start it and it started first time. Mate rode it for a mile or so and came back saying nothing was wrong with it. Anyone else had these problems? or can suggest a remedy/solution please mail me. | |||

Comments:
Nice bike. It only does 76 miles to reserve at 12k on the tacho. It eats tyres like mad, both front and back. The front forks are a it soft, causing jitter when breaking while leant over. I have been able to do without a stering damper so far. It hasn't destroyed the lock stops as yet...

Bike just broken in a few weeks ago and I can't beleive the power. Totally awesome. My Brother and Best Friend both bought '99 CBR900 and VTR1000 and they simply can't touch me! Much respect around the city and suburbs from other riders. Contemplating putting Muzzy exhaust and Jet kit but will wait awhile, it's awesome enough already! Plus the sound of the stock's titanium exhaust sounds like strangling Godzilla underwater; real sweet. I love this Bike!

| Modifications: MUZZY FULL EXHAUST SYTEM, DYNOJET JET KIT, MUZZY HEAVY DUTY CLUTCH SRINGS, LARGER REAR SPROCKET(43 TEETH), HYPERPRO STEERING STABILIZER, CUT OUT REAR FENDER, REMOVED ALL UN-NECESSARIES: CHAIN GUARD ETC. ETC....ALSO RECENTLY LOWERED FRONT END 1/2 INCH AND STIFFENED FRONT SUSPENSION (2 LINES SHOWING). STIFFENED REAR SUSPENSION AS WELL. POLSHED RIMS, FRAME AND SWING ARM. | |||
| Problems: MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT END STAYING DOWN. BIG WHEELIES AREN'T A PROBLEM I CAN'T HANDLE. IT IS THE ONES 1 mm OFF THE GROUND AT 100+ MPH THAT THROW THE BIKE ALL OVER THE ROAD THAT I DON'T LIKE. STABILIZER HAS SOLVED IT THOUGH. ALSO, NOT ENOUGH TIME TO RIDE.. PISSED THAT RIGHT AFTER SPENDING 10 GRAND ON A BIKE YOU HAVE TO TRASH A FULL TITANIUM EXHAUST SO THAT THE DAMN THING CAN BREATHE. ALSO WHY CAN'T THE RIMS COME POLISHED FROM THE FACTORY LIKE THE NEW ZX12? NEWEST PROBLEM -JAN 02, 2000 I WADDED THE BIKE AND DID $1,000.00 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO IT. I LAUNCHED IT AT AN INTERSECTION AND HAD PLENTY OF TRACTION. AS I WOUND ON THE THROTTLE, IT DID A ROLL ON BURNOUT. BY THE TIME I GOT ACROSS THE WIDE INTERSECTION, I WAS GOING ABOUT 45MPH. THERE WAS A DIP ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE INTERSECTION THAT I WAS (NEEDLESS TO SAY) UNFAMILIAR WITH. THE BIKE IS SO LIGHT, IT SWUNG AROUND 180 DEGREES, THEN HIGHSIDED ME OFF THE BIKE, HEAD-FIRST THROUGH THE WINDOW OF A CAR ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE INTERSECTION. THE WINDOW WAS 2" WIDER THAN MY HELMET, SO AN INCH IN EITHER DIRECTION AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD. ANYWAY, THE MOMENTUM OF MY BODY SWUNG ME AROUND, HITTING THE QUARTER PANEL, PULLING MY HEAD OUT OF THE WINDOW, WRAPPING ME OVER THE TRUNK LID, AND DEPOSITING ME ON THE GROUND BEHIND THE CAR. SPRANED ANKLE IN A CAST FOR 1 MONTH, BROKEN RIB, AND VARIOUS BRUISES. READERS PLEASE NOTE, THESE THINGS HAVE WAY MORE POWER AND ARE A LOT LIGHTER THAN MOST DRAG BIKES. THEY ARE NOT SET UP TO BE LAUNCHED AND DRAGRACED WITH STOCK SUSPENSION SETUPS. I DO NOT WANT TO LOWER THE WHOLE BIKE BECAUSE I WANT TO RIDE A SPORT BIKE NOT A DRAG BIKE. IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO ALL THIS WORK TO YOUR BIKE, RESPECT IT -BECAUSE THE MOMENT YOU THINK YOU KNOW IT ALL, A ZX9R WILL GLADLY SHOW YOU WHY IT IS AT THE TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN. I HAVE THE BIKE TOTALLAY STRIPPED, AND IS BEING POLISHED (FRAME AND SWING ARM). I ALSO LOWERED THE FRONT END 1/2 OF AN INCH AND TIGHTENED THE PRELOAD BIG TIME. I PREVIOUSLY OWNED A ZX7 SO I AM USED TO A STEEPER STEERING. IT SHOULD ALSO HELP TO KEEP THE FRONT END DOWN BY PUTTING THE WEIGHT OF THE MOTOR FARTHER FURTHER. I AM TRYING TO AVOID ANY REAR SUSPENSION MODS OTHER THAN THE TIGHTENING OF THE PRELOAD. THESE BIKES SHOULD DEFINATELY COME STIFFER FROM THE DEALER. NEW PARTS ARE ALREADY PURCHASED AND THE BIKE IS WAITING TO BE COMPLETELY POLISHED TO REASSEMBLE PLASTICS. A FRIEND RODE THE BIKE TO HIS HOUSE WHERE THE BIKE WILL UNDER GO THE COSMETICS. HE SAID FRONT END FELT GREAT. HE WEIGHS 25 LBS LESS THAN ME AND THE BIKE WHEELIED STRAIGHT UP IN THE AIR WHEN SHIFTING INTO THIRD. AS FOR PROBLEMS, I JUST CAN'T WAIT UNTIL WARM WEATHER SO I CAN SHOW THIS THING THAT AS LONG AS I AM MAKING THE PAYMENTS, I AM THE BOSS. BIKE IS FIXED -PROBLEM SOLVED. | |||
|
Comments:
ACCORDING TO THE FOLKS AT MUZZY'S, THIS BIKE SHOULD NOW WEIGH LESS THAN 400 LBS, AND HAVE OVER 170 HORSEPOWER. IF YOU OWN ONE OF THESE BIKES AND DON'T HAVE EXHAUST -YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE MISSING. THE BIKE NEEDS TO BREATHE, SO GET AN EXHAUST SYSTEM. I CALLED MUZZY'S AND THEY SAID GET THE PIPE, JET KIT, AND CLUTCH SPRINGS AND THEN DO NOTHING ELSE. ALL I HAVE DONE OTHERWISE IS ADD TWO TEETH TO THE REAR SPROCKET. I ALSO NEEDE TO ADD A HYPERPRO STEERING STABILIZER. I HAD MAJOR, SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT END DANCING AROUND AT SPEEDS OVER 100MPH IN THIRD GEAR. I TRIED TIGHTENING PRELOAD ON REAR SPRING AND IT HELPED BUT DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. ALSO I TOOK THE BIKE TO THE SHOP TO HAVE THE FRONT END LOWERED. THEY TOLD ME THAT LOWERING MAY RESULT IN PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT BOTTOMING OUT ON BIG WHEELIES. INSTEAD I BOUGHT THE HYPERPRO STEERING DAMPENER. PROBLEM SOLVED. NOW I AM PURCHASING A STRAP TO TIE THE FRONT END DOWN ONLY WHEN I DRAG RACE. I DID A LOT OF RESEARCH ON THE PIPES ETC BEFORE MY PURCHASE. IF ANYONE VIEWING THIS HAS QUESTIONS ON HOW TO HOOK YOUR BIKE UP, FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL ME WITH QUESTIONS. THIS BIKE HAS SO MUCH POWER IT IS TOTALLY RETARDED. I AM TOTALLY HAPPY WITH THE BIKE AND WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR ANY OTHER BIKE. OH, ONE OTHER THING, 100 + MPH POWERWHEELIES ABSOLUTELY RULE!! OTHER MOTORISTS LOVE IT WHEN THEY SEE IT. (IF THEY CAN SEE IT). PHOTOS AVAILABLE BY E-MAIL. burbage@bellatlantic.net

ALL THE (*) I GOT FROM SECOND LOOK www.second-look.com 916-331-5665 ask for Marsha | |||
| Problems: At the 700 mile mark I had a clutch actuator problem which is covered under a recall by the factory. Also ever since I put the stage one jet kit on and the pipe I have a flat spot at around 2K, if anyone knows how to get rid of this without changing the cam gears please let me know. I have had this bike for almost a year now and haven't had any other problems than the clutch problem I had at the 700 mile mark. This is such a great bike and now I am really glad that I bought a 1998 because all the 1999's that I have seen Dyno'ed start with less horsepower. I am not sure what the hell Kawi was thinking when they did that but they did! They also softened up the suspension too. | |||

Comments:
I love my bike and I love every time I meet a Yam R1. Who I beat EVERY time. I have not one regret that I bought this bike. It came down to a brand new R-1 or this one and I made the best choice I believe. I have riden the Yam and HATED it. Which was after I bought my bike. So I am one happy Kwak owner..... :)

| Accessories: Carbon fiber ball ends. Anodized bolts. Green and purple neon and strobes. Also recently went with the Kawasaki optional seat covers. They are bad. Green with the purple flag extending up through the front into the rear seat. Green windscreen. Gold zeon headlight. | |||
| Modifications: Dyno jet kit, Full titanium muzzy exhaust, and geared from 16/41 to 15/45. Dunlop 207's. | |||
| Problems: Occasional false neutral. Other than that no probs with the bike. Except that with the gearing as radical as it is, the front tire will not stay on the ground... Top speed is cut to probably 140 to 150. Speedometer is off. | |||

Comments:
I love this bike. Runs like a sckolded dog. The gearin is pretty low so it is very very torquee. It is ossum for around town but long road rides tends to suck a little especially with gas mileage. Cant wait to take it to the drag strip to see what it will do. Thinking about having the cams degree'd in it. Not sure yet, there hasn't been hardly any bikes that i ride with that can even compare to this one. Gonna lower it in the rear about and inch and a half to two inches to help keep the front tire on the ground.

| Modifications: Full Akrapovic system & jetting soon on its way... | |||
| Problems: False neutrals were common when new. Seems to improve as the mileage increases. Runs a little hot in heavy traffic and can be difficult to start. | |||

Comments:
Hugely satisfying bike. Cant wait to take it out to the drags. Will shake its head a tad when flat out in second if the roads' less than perfect - no damper required though.
