I have no experience with either bike but found this discussion on the KLR
forum, pertaining to bike #2:

Apparently the KLX, while more useful in the dirt, has limited aftermarket
sources versus a KLR.

Subject: Want a new ride
Oh most wise list,
So I'm looking for a bike to ride around the desert.
Must be:
Big enough to travel on paved roads @ 55 ~ 60 (no freeways) to get to the
dirt roads
Can only be ridden on established dirt roads. No making my own trails
Must be street legal
Will ride it to and from work daily (1.5 miles)
Don't want to buy a brand new bike for 6k
Don't want to spend too much.
So,
Bike #1

or
Bike #2
http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/mcy/2475238009.html
Can get this one for $1500
