Bikes Owned: 6

Accessories: Gearsack. Tinted windscreen from Screens For Bikes in Melbourne. Perfect original copy.
Modifications: Painted Yellow, blue seat. Originally Red/White. I didn't do it but it looks good. Needs a black seat. Will do that eventually. Have fixed the fuel guage. The needle used to flick around past the point of no return and end up on the wrong side of the stopper if the tank was full and I was "having fun through the twisties". (Reading empty all the time). Glued a piece of plastic to the fuel gauge face and now it has a full stopper as well. Alternator decided to give up to 25 volts to the battery and cooked it. Sent it to Small Coil Rewinds in Geelong and they modified the wiring for a fair price. Righly reccomend them. Spacers put in front forks to stiffen springs. Suzuki muffler (sacrilige I know but that's how I bought it). Alluminium mounts for muffler. Still has original headers I think.
Problems: Front forks are still a lot too soft, can bottom out if I push it or brake realy hard. Left hand indicator switch is a bit temperamental. Low fuel light doesn't work. Leaky sump plug and LH front rocker cover. Fairing vibration from windscreen at speed. Clutch master cylinder has very small leak, have to top it up once a month. Speedo gear/cable horrible vibrating sound on cold mornings when it gets above 35km/h. Have to almost stop and it goes away and then ride really slowly for about 10k's until the cable/gear or whatever it is warms up and then it's fine for the day?? Horrible sound but it doesn't affect the speedo needle...?
Comments:
Awesome bike. $1850 with very dodgy Road Worthy Certificate. 240km/h and still pulling hard. I ride it as often as I can. Takes me to work a lot. Absolutely effortless cruising even with my partner on the back. She doesn't weigh much and she is very good at leaning with the bike!! I get better economy with her on the back. 6.5l/100km (43mpg old school), average fuel consumption. Best of 5.4 l/100km (52mpg). I am wearing out the toes on all of my shoes!!! Very easy to scrape the footpegs and centre stand. Great fun bike.
For Sale: Sorry. I will never part with this bike. My first bike was an MX80. It was the cheapest and smallest bike Yamaha made in 1984. Now I have their Flagship model. Woo Hoo!!

Problems: NONE.
Comments:
My dad used to have own this bike when I was very young and him and I would always go for rides together. So when he sold it, he sold it back to the original owner that he bought it from. The original owner bought it new I believe and kept it in immaculant shape. After my dad sold it back to him, my dad bought a harley and I bought my Interceptor as a starter bike. Then the guy who my dad sold the FJ to called him not too long ago asking if my dad might want to buy it back and I was all over that. I love these bikes and since it has history with my since I was a little kid I really wanted it.

Midnight Blue / Black 1989 FJ1200 (Updated: 2008.11.16)

Usage: 10,313 miles, Street/Sport.
Tires: Dunlop
Owner: Peter Wells
Email to Peter Wells
http://www.KarinWells.BlogSpot.com
Location: USA (NorthEast) -- Peterborough, NH
Experience: Began in 1953 on a 1934 H-D VL
Bikes Owned: 9
Accessories: Corbin dual seat. Looking to get new soft saddlebags. The old Marsees are a good design but getting very ratty. They do not have what I need now. Fieldscheer might just do it.
Modifications: Trying to keep it fairly stock. Recently (Fall '08) made a substitute for the stock horn. Now have hi and lo Fiamm horns and appropriate relay. These horns are definitely freeway blasters compared to the "thweep" of the original horn. New paint and letters on tank spring '08 and new windscreen plus edging. Now I get comments about my "new" bike!
Problems: Aging clutch line connections, etc. leaked and were replaced.
Comments:
It has a comfortable riding stance for touring. I toured Europe east and west in Fall 1988 on a rented FJ1200. The "1200" written all over it drew crowds of youth in eastern bloc countries where such displacements were most unusual. The FJ was an instant celeb. It was not the rental promised, but I was an immediate convert to its power, handling and road comfort. The brakes were not ABS but performed brilliantly in some very dangerous situations. When I saw my present FJ1200 advertised for sale a few years later, I grabbed it to enjoy alongside my BSA and BMWs. Words to live by: "You live more in 5 minutes on a bike like this, going flat out, than some people live in a lifetime." Quoted from Burt Munro (Anthony Hopkins) in "The World's Fastest Indian" - Crikey! a good motorsickle flic!
For Sale: No, but might trade for a circa 1934 Harley VL in good shape.

Problems: Front turn signal mounts cracked. Clutch slave cylinder leaked. Cured the hot fast idle problem with a carb sync. Changed out the steering head bearings Engine is almost bullet-proof. Haven't had to crack the cases yet. (knock on wood).
Comments:
Great bike! It has taken me to Nova Scotia and back, over 3000 miles in 9 days. Mods turned this into a real nice handling maching. The 17" front wheel plus radials make it seem like its 100 lbs lighter. Plus commutes to work every day I can and many weekenders. If you need parts, get them from Zanotti's, great prices and service via the web. Just made it to the FJ Fall Rally and rode the Dragon. Just got an '06 FJR1300. Man, what a beast! The FJ will be second fiddle now, but she's earned a rest.

Comments:
This is my second FJ. I missed the first one so much I had to come back. This is the best sport tourer on the road. Besides I'm too young for a cruiser.

Accessories: None currently. Stock machine. Will be adding tank bag, trunk and saddle bags in very near future. --- 08/08: as mentioned, have added Nelson Riggs large tank bag and saddle bags. (also purchased a Cardo Q2 communications system for bike to bike comm for sweetie and I)
Modifications: None noted/identified -- 08/08: pending: working w/ Todd @ Custom Dynamics to upgrade entire lighting suite to LED's. Most likely won't do anything w/ the headlight right now, but I have thought about a modulator
Problems: Only issue: minor cracks around bolts in windshield. Plan on adding rubber washers to mitigate problem (performed same process on previously owned Seca 750.) Missing "tab"/"screw cover"/"bumper piece" on R side duct; minor crack, inside L duct. Missing inside cockpit R retaining bolt for fairing (causing some vibration noise). Minor scratches, dings, chips. -- 08/08: few other issues have appeared, none potentially heart braking..rough shift from 1 -2 (really); left lower fairing busted off towards end (a very common problem from what I've been told) handlebar impacts tank @ full turn either way, making the "lock" feature of the key switch unusable/non-existent (common problem??)
Comments:
Fell in love w/ FJ1100 on first sight at dealer many, many moons ago. Like many, couldn't even think to afford one. This year, after buying my wife a Honda CMX250 to learn on, she decided I could have another bike. Lo and behold, first shop we went to had FJ1200. After twice up and down freeway, rode her home! FINALLY!

Comments:
I've owned this bike for 16 years but have put relatively low miles on it. Used mostly for commuting now. Love sound and power. It is the best, most reliable bike I have owned. I love the dark blue color, it seems to be a color not frequently found on other FJ's, great sport tourer, can't justify purchasing a new big sport tourer at new prices when this bike can still run with most of them.
For Sale: I have an extra Eclipse tank bag and a 4 into 1 Supertrapp for sale, both in good condition. if anyone's interested. Email me at rbfamily4@earthlink.net
