Had always wanted one. Love the mid range. Plenty of room for me and my partner 2up all day. Hard cases make the bike very practcal though pricey, $850. Thinking about the new FJ1300 but at $13k new, I could get 4 used 12's with low miles with a lot of gas money left over.

Comments:
The bike was a little untidy 3 years ago ~ mainly cosmetic. However plenty of T.L.C has got it looking ( ~ and going ) very nicely indeed. Just had tune up done ~ shims checked, new plugs and spark plug caps, cab synchronized, air cleaner cleaned. Olny problem I had after that was that the vacuum tubes running from tank to carbs had been pinched and until I replaced them the bike would only run on prime.

It seems that radials are not recommended by the Owners Club for the FJ. Crossplies should be used, so that's what I've done with BT45s. It's an excellent machine and mine has been well serviced and looked after.

The FJ is very sensative to tire wear.I had tried Michelin 90x,'s also, used Dunlop D205@ rear, eventually settled on Dunlop GT501's.(whatever) tire combo you settle on. MAKE SURE YOU MONITOR TIRE PRESSURES!! 33 FRONT 36 REAR WORKS FOR ME.

| Modifications: Had Laser 4 into 1 with "Slip On" muffler which decided to "Slip Off" at 160 kph due to broken alloy holding bracket. Replaced it with Pipemaster muffler with steel bracket. Sounds better and goes even harder. | |||
| Problems: Usual wear and tear. Had to fit new chain/sprockets and clutch straight away. Had the dreaded "Venting problem" as described in the excellent FJ F.A.Q. (go to www.fj1200.com and click on FAQ) and fixed easily by ripping out the one way valves in the fuel cap. Fitted new rings and valve stem seals at 90,000 klm so she doesn't burn oil anymore. Fantastic bike. The top gear torque is truly amazing. Leave it in 5th, open the throttle and hang on! Passing lines of cars on the open road is a real pleasure. Easily the best bike I've ever had and I want to keep it for a long time.

Great bike, fell in love first time I put a 84 together out of the crate, had to have one. Decided this year (02) to tear it down to the bare frame and do a complete resto. Doing the usual mods, shock, fork springs, Corbin seat, pipe, brake lines, carb kit. Plus full polish of the alum., and total paint job.
