Location: UK -- Blewbury, Oxon, UK
Experience: Born again wrinkley biker, now on sunny days only. Raced bikes in early 60's
Accessories: Sissy luggage grid handle thingy to appease wife.
Modifications: Got rid of those droopy floppy indicators. Moved headlamp up and forward a bit to make it look a bit more like a 60's bike.
Problems: Cooling fan doesn't seem to come on? Uneven transmission at lower speeds.
Comments:
Bought it by accident as it was tucked away forgotten and unloved in a local bike shop. I just fancied a smallish V twin for sunny days. Didn't really know what I was into but now 6 years later as I reach retirement I'm considering customising it a little as a fun project.

Photo: Photo-Link
Accessories: The only thing that I did to the Hawk at the outset was to re-jet the lower circuit to cure the EPA lean condition. Put on one of those swap meet, $15.00 fairings (my up town friends think it's trashy and my trashy friends think it's cool)and drive it...!
Modifications: Well I've had two kids in college up until this year so this will be the "Year of the Hawk" Probably go with the Rob Muzzy slip on, stainless brake lines, and a decent looking fairing ( as much as I hate to see the trashy one go...) I run Amsoil Synthetic in all of our vehicles, this included, a carbon fiber front fender if I can find one that I like, mine is badly faded, (got a stock one for sale....? Red) Update - May 3rd, 2001 Alrightty then...! I did make this "The Year of the Hawk"... I went with the Hindle Titanium 18" oval slip-on with the collector, very nice, Factory Stage One jet kit, K & N air filter (Replaces stock with no mod to the box...!) and the usual tune afterwards...Wow...! Pulls stronger, sounds great of course. I may go with the 4 degree ignition advance as the Factory kit atually recommends it. Put on stainless front brake lines and I will do the rear soon. I still need to find a neat fairing but I'll run what I've got for now...
Problems: I dislike chain drive very much (We have four Guzzis) and the noise from this one drives me stupid... and I keep a close watch on the lube and adjustment. I did change over to the 520 conversion with a top line "O" ring chain but it is still excessive in my opinion, I'll live with it. Not bad if that's all I've got to bitch about, huh...
Comments:
I purchased this GT from the original owner in '97 with 4600 miles on the clock and have done nothing (until this year) but ride it..! We have several motorcycles that get put on the road every year and this one gets the call from me quite often. My wife and I even drove up the coast to Bar Harbor one year, side bags, tank bag and back pack full for a weekend of touring on the coast roads. My daughter rides a VTR 250 but I have to hide the keys to the Hawk from her, I might never see it again...! Suffice it to say, we like this motorcycle very much, it's a keeper..!
For Sale: Not now...Sue bought me the VFR....! Update... I gave the Hawk to my daughter for her birthday last year... now the VFR is For Sale, buying another Guzzi....'97 1100 Sport, Rob

bike is in perfect condition except for hairline cracks in the rear fairing (they're right above the handles- i'm thinking other people have had this problem, too). Plan on doing some modifying to stiffen up the front suspension and getting rid of the rise on the handlebars. it's a lot of fun.
