Owner: Scott Seifert
Email to Scott Seifert
Location: USA (NorthEast) -- York Pa
Experience: beginner
Bikes Owned: 1
Accessories: Has cheap looking cafe fairing from previous owner. I put on a tank bag.
Modifications: none
Problems: I already lost a side cover. Have zip tied the remaining one. Would like to find a replacement.(right side) The clutch or transmission is making a squealing noise. It does this in every gear including neutral. When I pull in the clutch lever, it stops squealing. Any ideas?
Comments:
My dad has owned Bmws since 1970(?) I remember only one bike before that. He's had an r90 since new in '74. We've been doing maintenance and have really brought the bike up in a short time. Have run about five tanks of gas through and like the bike very much. It's a great starter bike.

Comments:
I purchased this bike from an 84 year old gentleman that purchased the bike new in 1982. I have the original logbook, stating a genuine mileage of only 37000 km! The bike was in fairly good condition, but I had it resprayed, saddle re-covered and also replaced the front tyre. Some work is still required however .....
For Sale: Maybe

Bikes Owned: 3
Accessories: Factory "Bikini" fairing; cylinder/head protectors, Reynolds rear (behind seat) rack.
Modifications: Progressive front springs, motor mount vibration isolators, drilled baffles in end of stock mufflers.
Problems: Tachometer--replaced one under warranty in '88. New one began erratic behavior within 12 months of replacement. No(!) other significant mechanical problems.
Comments:
Bought new in '85--(left-over '83). It's a great little bike for short to medium rides (under 200 miles). Completely original (including paint), always garaged, immaculate. Most of my riding comes during one long trip every year. I've ridden it on a 2500 mile (round trip) excursion to S. Dakota-Wyoming (Sturgis Rallye) during the past 5 years. My riding buddy with the $25K Harley gets PO'd with all the compliments this bike receives, while his Hog gets nary a glance (Hell, they're a dime a dozen at Sturgis; a pristine older BMW stands out like a diamond in a goat's behind!). Only complaint: It's a bit underpowered when fully loaded at altitude (or in a strong headwind). I'll keep this little guy forever!

098042:

Modifications: after market side stand, beefer than the stock one and much easier to install
Problems: Although it idles in normal range(1100rpm) for first little while, after it warms up tends to rev higher (1500+) sugestions? Shifting 1st to second a little clunky somtimes especialy when shes getting warm.
Comments:
Fun Bike, get lots of appreciative comments. seems easy to work on, adjusted valves, changed all fluids. Parts ain't cheap though. Hand numbing vibration at about 4000-5000rpm(comman I guess. Not sure if would take her on a long trip, seems alittle underpowered and seems a bit twitchy on the highway (short wheel base?) great around town though.

Comments:
Runs great and gets 60 Miles per gallon with the new K&N Air filter. No! I didn't expect to get any more power, just better milage. Great handling in the twisties after taking engine guards off.

Location: Canada (Central) -- Fergus, Ontario

Bikes Owned: 5
Accessories: This bike has lots of storage space in the form of BMW hard cases, and a nifty chrome rack on the rear over the fender that is slightly adjustable. This machine also has a single sheet plexi-glass wind shield that allows me to ride at highway speeds without wearing goggles or sunglasses
Modifications: I've velcro-wrapped a rist watch around the handlebars on the right side so that I can tell time without taking my hands off the bars. The machine also has a throttle lock that has been attached up-side down.
Problems: none so far, however there seems to be some valve noise on both sides, I'm not sure if this is normal because this is my first beem. Need to replace fork Seals.
Comments:
I've replaced many parts over the past couple seasons, they seem to be the rubber parts that are giving up after 20 years Pushrod tube seals (both sides), oil pressure sensor (leaking oil), fork seals, rubber gasket where the tach cable meets the gearbox Fork bearings replace/ regrease, new back tire and seat this winter. The parts aren't cheap, but with this great bike I don't mind spending the money! I put 11'000 km on in '03
For Sale: Everything is for sale isn't it? Ya just gotta ask!

Comments:
Lovely commuter, very reliable, low seat and low weight make it very comfortable in town. A bit slow on the open road, don't try and run with the Jap crotch rockets. But it does cruise along nicely at about 130km/h and won't get you any speeding tickets.

Stuff wears out over 22 years and 130,000 miles!
Comments:
This bike is a daily year-round communter and occasional tourer, my main transportation, and has been for much of the time I've owned it. After 16 years, it earned the name "Deerslayer" the hard way, but didn't fall down and got me home afterward. Good bike and a blast to ride! I'm NEVER letting go of it!
