Problems:
Cracking plastic on top of the gauges, the area under the windscreen. Not bad enough to replace it yet, but it's getting there. Also had to replace the bearing for the right side cam drive at 68,000 miles. First hint of trouble was a roaring sound, sort of like a water pump failing. Relatively cheap fix though, the bearing was $80 and only about 3 hours labor. Be careful and don't ignore unusual engine noises, boys!

Comments:
Aside from the failed bearing, the bike has been rock solid. Best bike I've ever ridden, not even close. I love my ST, have no plans to get rid of it, ever. A bike with a little more speed that's lighter on its feet might be nice, so I'm looking to buy an Aprilia Futura in a couple years. But whatever happens, I'm keeping my ST!

Stock front tire cupping regardless of pressure; head shake while deceleration (45-40 mph) noticeable with hands off handlebars; stock carburation adjustments (too lean) caused missing after 20 mins. on highway (with temps 25-45 F and moist conditions) lasting 5-7 minutes: this problem was properly diagnosed and the carburators were appropriately adjusted to (increased mixture richness) eliminate this problem.

Excellent bike. I commute daily 30 miles one way. I used to do this on a Harley Sportster 1200. There is no comparison. My ST1100 is so smooth, quiet, non-vibrational, and fast. I can't imagine commuting on another bike.

Motad exhaust (took an entire day to fit!). Bodge job bungie strap to stop panniers flapping. Alloy heat reflective tape around fairing pockets to stop engine heat frying contents in summer.

Problems:
Honda topbox rattles around on mountings (as do panniers). Rear pads only last 6000 miles despite caliper working correctly. Heavily scarred wing mirror pods from placing them at same height as cars.

Comments:
Love it to death. Only seem to get 39mpg but loads of commuting probably explains that. Will wait 2 years for Hondas unpaid development team (the public) to sort out the STX then probably buy one.

Problems:
Previous owner had a: "Transverse vector impact with an ungulate" (he hit a deer and dumped the bike! Damaged body plastic only). Coolant leak - fixed. Averaging one set of tires every 12,000 kms.

So far so good. Does not like slow speed maneuvering, feels very front heavy at slow speeds. All in all - fun to toss through the twisties, I like it a lot.
