Modifications: ECU step 01, therm. Fuel tank changed by Suzuki Italia without my request. Steering "assistant " mounted by suzuki. Auto- realized a pipe of unloading of the oil that resolves the loss of the anterior hole of the papers motor. It perfectly works and there are no problems to dirty the right shoe. With the Yoshi and TRE, the bike is much powerfull al low - mid rpm ( Warning is request for the first km ). 06/2003 Yoshimura RS3 exhaust; Ivan's TRE. 02/2004 BMC Air Filter: a new bike is born ( and need respect ) !!! April 2005: installed power commander. The bike, on low rpm is too smooth and easy but at the same time more powerfull. Need test but every week end its raining. Stay in touch. June 2005: +2 ( from 38 to 40 ) to rear transmission: work well ! Sptember '05: Installad Hayabusa 6 pistons front brake caliper with inox brake lines also to rear caliper.
Problems: Slipping clutch: resolved by suzuki assistance ( renforced )- CLUTCH COVER LEAK, IN THE OTHER SIDE THE WHOLE IN FRONT OF THE COVER LEAK. NO LEAK PROBLEM NOW..AT THEON LINE PHOTO SEE MODIFICATION.
Comments:
Very good bike !!! - Thanks to David Hagnier for the details about slipping clucth that permit me to confirm this problem to Suzuki Italia. July '99: test MEZ3 Racing front and rear. This model is more thin than MEZ1 but permit a larger angle on very fast ride. March 2003: New MEZ3 Racing on the rear. July 2003: With the yoshi RS3 and TRE the bike is very most powerfull on low - mid rpm ( TRE ) and big difference also on higt road ( yoshi )! WONDERFUL ! If you don't like to buy a new exhaust system i sugget to install Ivan's TRE. Metzler Sportec M1 on the rear: perfect grip ! On spring ...also on the front.

Accessories: Targa Tank bra to prevent my belt or jacket from scratching the paint, problem is, it leaves a lot of slight scratches from the fibers on the inside of the bra. 9-01-00 = Added Pro-Gel handgrips, so far I like them.
Modifications: 06-03-00 = EBC HH Brake Pads, wow what a difference 7-6-00 = Got a flat tire on the rear. Replaced the MeZ1 with a 180/55 D207ZR. I would have to say that I like the 180 better than the 190. I need to get a fender eliminator kit so I can see the tire more clearly. 11-01-00 = Full Yoshimura Exhaust with the Zyclone baffles. It is winter now, so no idea on any type of horsepower feel or sound yet. Can't wait for dry roads.
Problems: -Seems to have some stumbles around the 3-4k mark. I have scheduled its 600 mile check-up and they will take a look at it then. They will also give me any updates that I have not had done yet.
Comments:
6-3-00 = The bike is pretty close to being broken in. Still having a good time riding it. 7-6-00 = Bike is broken in and it HAULS ASS.

M4 2-1 Titanium full race exhaust system. Stainless braided radiator hoses. Infamous crack at the rear shock mounting, welded and had a reinforcement brace custom made. Then frame cracked at radiator bolt left hand side. Reinforced and welded that as well. 16:40 Sprockets, to much, will be going back to stock after they wear down. Body work has a custom airbrushed paint job, yellow covering green lizard skin by "Air Design".
Problems: Canadian Winters!! Not enough time to ride. Wife dropped while riding the bike. Fortunately both the bike and my wife made a good recovery.
Comments:
Handles very well on the rough roads we have here. Torque is fantastic. Did not seem completely broken in until at least 3,000km. By far the most enjoyable bike I have owned. A bit of headshake under acceleration, especially on rough roads. Always recovers very quickly. Replaced steering dampner. All in all a great bike!! Still can't find anything that I would consider trading for.

Accessories: lockhart phillips 1/2 tank bra, frame sliders, MRA.de touring windscreen, LP adjustable foot pegs, ohlins steering damper, sigma-800 bicycle computer (to read km-s rather than miles :), hepco-becker.de luggage rack + givi's micro-2 topbox = looks like a scooter, he-he ;-) ...rrr-rr: had to remove the rack bended in the crash (see Problems below) and replace it with KAPPA monorack, looks even more accurate now; metisse.de rear tyre hugger; finally installed long-awaited corbin seat, well, feels a bit tough, though it's said to take some time for "breaking in", will see... now (6/04) i can confidently say corbin was a good investment -- my butt appreciates it ;-) 07/04 in place of kappa+givi installed hepko-becker rack and top case, two-up riding is more comfortable with the rack; put smoked ZG db in place of the MRA screen -- same windshielding effect with better look
Modifications: 16-tooth front sprocket, Heli's handlebars, K&N air filter, Goodridge braided front and rear brake lines, Ivan's TRE, PowerCommander-II with stage one map loaded. 25/5/03 temporarily disconnected PC-II and removed TRE to let a local Dyno guru play with ECU, will see... 28/5/03 ohlins rear shock absorber finally installed... 17/6/03 installed PCII back, seems running smoother now w/o TRE (sounds like GPS failure or smth), still soldering my own SSATRE... disconnected flapper valve - now permanently open 22/6/03 finally managed to replace old tires: BT010s give more grip, especially on wet road. 28/8/03 yoshimura stainless rs3 zyclone bolt-ons (to keep peace with my neighbours when i leave at 7 am), louis.de steel front rotors + EBC HH pads to replace original things damaged in the crash. 3/04 .90kg RaceTech fork springs + golden valves (medium setting) installed, triple clamps lowered 10mm as RT installation manual recommends (still in doubt, ain't it too much?), therm sensor relocated + new thermostat from '98 model installed to feed ECU w/ correct data, rear suspension linkage reassembled and greased to get rid off from the terrible squeak 25/5/04 slightly raisen up the triple clamps - now they're just 5mm lower standard position, bike nodded too much when it was 10mm, now it's stable 3/05 in winter replaced chain and sprockets with golden x-ring and 17/40 respectively; reassembled exhaust system to replace the gasket and bingo! thus got rid off from the terrible backfiring :^)
Problems: oil leak at clutch cover -- fixed with a thicker washer + glue; rrr-rr... leaks again :-( 25/5/03 replaced the cover with '98 model: no leak here since then but now sweats on the opposite side ;-( stumbles -- failed trying to make suzuki replace ECU: they suggested me to bring the whole bike back to the US to do that ;-( hope PC-II or TRE will cure the problem... 3/4/03 installed TRE and PCII (m301-001): despite that, milage's still very bad for me: <100 miles on 15l %-[ looking for a better map to load... 26/5/03 removed TRE suspecting GPS failure ;-\ will try to build Steve's SATRE instead... 17/7/03 got hit by a dummy blonde on a beemer, now need to repair myself first, bike afterwards %-( frame sliders rulez -- thanks to them not much damage in the crash: just rear brake lever and right mirror broken plus a few scratches on the right side muffler (was going to replace 'em anyway) 29/8/03 water pump started leaking -- replaced seals and the gasket, seems to be fine now 5/04 bike started backfiring more and more on throttle close -- bad plugs? spoiled PC map? trying not to put much attention on it, though... now, after reassembling the pipes it runs smooth again
Comments:
after several seasons riding 4-cyllinder yamaha-s, bought this bike under impression from two weeks travelling through Italy on dukati st4 back in May 2002. since, no regret! %-) bike's mostly used for daily commuting and weekend travelling despite relatively small distance range...

Tires: Metzler Sportec M1
Owner: Paul
Location: UK -- Northern Ireland
Experience: 27 years road riding experience.
Bikes Owned: 8
Accessories: Yoshimura RS3 carbon fibre cans with ceramic coated oe headers. NWS can hangers. Stainless bar ends. Sprint steering damper with what is thought to be an early Hyperpro fitting kit. Scorpion oil cooler cover. Powerbronze rear hugger and coloure matched belly pan. ART cf tank pad and fibre-lyte cf yoke protector. Sundry stainless steel fasteners.
Modifications: Maxton rear damper. PSL rebuilt and re-sprung forks. 6 pot calipers and wave discs with Carbon Lorraine pads. Post 98 thermostat modification and by-pass
Problems: The bike is an import. The clutch cover had leaked with the previous owner despite several (dealer) attempts to fix it. I bit the bullet and bought a modified cover and gasket and it is now as Mr Suzuki originally intended. The cause of this problem lies in the design of the original cover. The clutch slipped a bit at first but cleaning and lubricating the lever, cable and mechanism seems to have fixed it. I suspect stronger springs have been fitted.

Accessories: Fenda Extenda (to keep the mud out of the radiator, I have to ride two miles on dirt road every day). Heated grips, relay controlled so can't kill batt by mistake, used "off/low/high" switch from BMW which mounted *beautifully* inside fairing at left mirror mounting point. KisanTech high beam modulator (really helps people see you and get out of your way!) and Signal Minder (cancels the turn signal if I forget, also changes turn sigals into running lights). Clear rear turn signal lenses, and red LED turn signal bulbs, so that rear running lights are red, not amber (which is illegal in California).
Modifications: Replaced old Dynojet Power Commander PCI with PCII (see "problems"), Yoshimura pipes, K&N air filter. Lowered front end 10mm at triple clamps, improves flickability. Belly pan from England (www.streetfighterdirect.com - after exchange rate and shipping, cost more than $200!), touched down and badly scraped on maiden voyage! Heavily modified (i.e. bend the crap out of) the mounting brackets, trimmed material away to clear motor/shifter, all to raise the belly pan up against the bottom of the bike, now header is slowly burning the fiberglass but does not appear to be burning through, no more touching down. Installation instructions sucked! Can't believe they would sell something that would so severly limit lean angel, but now it's better. My girlfriend likes it better naked (no comments!) but I still like the bellypan. Very good color match! See photo link. Bellypan sacrificed itself to minimize damage to my bike when my father's '65 Dodge flatbed rolled backwards over my bike with nobody at the helm.
Problems: Bought bike used (6,000 miles) with Dynojet Power Commander PCI, ran perfectly until ~13,000 miles, then had lots of trouble (stumbles/pings at about 3,000 rpm, randomly drops idle and will stall if I don't use the fast idle lever). I had the tappet clearances set (were tight but not closed), synchronized the throttle bodies, set the throttle position sensor). All of the above problems I finally learned were due to failed PCI, which Dynojet no longer manufactures, sells, or supports. I purchased a new PCII from www.hardracing.com with the *stock* '97 TL1000S map and the bike runs wonderfully (not perfect yet, but very good). Loading the "stage one map" improved it even more. Does anybody have a custom PCII map for a '97 TL1000S, stock ECU, Yoshimura pipes, K&N air filter?? Gas tank started to leak between tank and fuel pump flange, just tightened the bolts carefully and leak went away. Gas mileage: mine gets about 25 mpg when I'm having fun, and about 45 mpg tooling down the freeway. Use the power....pay the price. 9/2003 Fuel leek came back eventually, knew not to just tighten the screws more (can wreck the tank I hear), got the upgraded fuel pump gasket (could not tell it apart from the one that came out of the bike) no more fuel leek. Now at 22,000 miles having intermittant stumble while cruising at 3,000 rpm, and backfire at 3,500 rpm at closed throttle. Still running PowerCommander PC2 Stage One map. Any suggestions for stumble and backfire? I had the valve clearance checked and they were perfect. Ultimately, with lots of experimentation, I modified the PCII map and cleared up the stumble. Still backfires, but I can live with that. Be very carefull if you are removing the bar-end-weights. The screws on mine were frozen, and there is a good length of un-threaded screw....I torqued mine right off at the threads, tried to drill it out, and ended up replacing the entire clipon for lotsa bucks (~$150?). Take your time, don't force it. I finally replaced my clutch plates and springs (~$140 and two hours of my time, could do it in 30 minutes having done it once) and I wish I had done that the day I purchased the bike! Not only did it eliminate the high-speed clutch spin, but the motor pulls stronger, the bike shifts cleaner, at all speeds! Do it now! Lower bolt that fastens the rear rotary damper to the frame BROKE OFF. Managed (amazingly) to extract and replace.
Comments:
Love this bike! I had no idea how much I was missing my smooth-running bike while the PCI unit was failed and then removed (the bike actually ran better with the failed PCI unit removed). 9/2003 and 22,000 miles, PCII is still doing the trick, has developed the stumble/backfire like everybody else (??). I wonder what is changing in the motor? Any suggestions? From reading this site, I may try setting the throttle position sensor again (did that long ago, isn't too hard if you follow the directions). I tried removing the stock steering dampner, only felt a difference at low low parking lot speed, so who cares? Put it back on. No trouble with the rear rotary dampner, but I'm 5'7" 160 lbs, so maybe just doesn't matter. I must be getting old, but I'm lusting for a sport touring bike next. Something a little more comfortable with a passenger, and with some cargo room. No, I'm not getting rid of my TLS! But a nice ST2 is on my wish list. I did eventually come up with a map for the PCII that solved the stumble problem (after a friend said the symptoms seemed just like an overly lean (EPA-mandated) bike, so I enrichened the mixture at the right spots and bike runs great (still backfires some). SOLD to Jerry! Got me a nice Kawasaki Z1000. Much more practical, and newer too.
