| Modifications: 08/09/2002 - Pyramid Carbon Hugger...3 hour job!! 21/09/2002 - Dyno'd today....108.4bhp, 68.7ft/lbs...thats enough for me! | |||
| Problems: 05/09/2002 - The clock reads kmh, but in fact its mph...didn't take long to work that out! I also phoned the first owner to get a more realistic view of the bike's history. He told me that it shattered 2nd gear after 4000 miles, but was replaced under warranty....I would be interested to know if anyone else has had similar failures....Is it chain tension related? 08/09/2002 - Noticed tiny oil leak just below cooler...can't see where its coming from. | |||
|
Comments:
This is a late model, so all recall mods seem to be factory fitted. Also will check the frame cracking when I put the hugger on. 08/09/2002) Pyramid Carbon Hugger fitted, not happy with fit...poor quality moulding...distorted, needed trimming and additional bracket..and it cost 114ukp.

| Problems: OIL LEAKING FROM TOP OF FORWARD CYLINDER HEAD,VERY LITTLE AMOUNT, ONE INCH ROUND PUDDLE OVER NIGHT.ALSO ONE TIME LEAK FROM CLUTCH COVER. DEALER REPLACED HEAD GASKET AND RETORQUED CLUTCH COVER DURING 600MILE SERVICE.NO LEAKS SINCE. STILL HAVE SOME STUMBLES FROM 3 TO 4 THOUSAND RPM, YOSH REMAP REDUCED PROBLEM BUT DIDN'T CURE IT. | |||
|
Comments:
OIL LEAKS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. BIKES POWER AND SMOOTHNESS HAS INCREASED NICELY SINCE THE FIRST RIDE HOME.NOW HAVE 6,200 MILES. JUST REPLACED THE STOCK TIRES WITH DUNLOP 207'S. GETTING A CONSISTANT 45-49 MPG. WHEN JUST CRUISING, BUT DROPS TO 37-40 WHEN BLASTING AROUND ON IT.LOVE THE SOUND FROM THE RS3 ZICLONE'S(RACE ARE TOO LOUD FOR MY TASTE).HELI BARS FEEL ONLY MARGINALY BETTER. DUNLOPS ARE TOASTED NOW AFTER A TRIP TO THE MOUNTAINS (DEALS GAP) AND A TRACK DAY AT DAYTONA. RC51'S AND APRILLA RSV'S HAVE NOTHING ON THIS BIKE.

Replaced stock steering damper oil with 2.5wt oil. (12/26/01) Removed smog canister. Ohlins installed!(5/23/02)Barnett Clutch springs. (8/10/02)Ferodo front brake pads and Redline Water wetter. (9/02) Put on M1's before track school. We'll see how they perform. | |||
| Problems: Rotary damper sucks! Wobbles a when leaned over on bumpy roads. Shoots confidence right out the door. Stumbles a little in mid RPMS and bucks easily at low speed, hopefully the Yosh remap fixed that. (12/01/01) Stumbling/bucking gone thanks to the remap. (12/14/01) Wobbles have been virtually non-existent with new suspension settings combined with BT-56SS tires. | |||
|
Comments:
Love the torque!! It's a great bike. I love the way it looks. It has more than enough power, sounds awesome with the Yosh cans, and with the new footwork settings, handles like a 600. Steering is MUCH BETTER with the lighter oil in the steering damper and raised forks. First impression of the Yosh remap is that the low rpm bucking is gone. Midrange power is great now. (12/26/01) Love the Ohlins so far. Rear feels normal (2/3/02) Weather finally cleared up and took it for a ride. Ohlins rear shock is awesome! Took it canyon carving and...WOOHOO! No wiggles, no wobbles. NONE. (5/20/02)Intuitive sliders look real nice. The pro version installs in the right place and are longer than the standard ones.

|
Comments:
This bike has been good to me, it runs really strong and with the weight lost it really feels like a totally different bike.On a calibrated scale it weighed in at 429 pounds, tank full. Its goes great around the track and on the street its lots of fun. Great bike, great motor, there is nothing out there I would want to replace it with, I think I keep her for awhile. :)

I bought this bike with three miles on it this October 2001 new on the show room floor. It's great to own a brand new bike that came out four years before you bought it, you know what's going to go wrong with it since it is already published! THIS BIKE IS BASTARD FAST! 8/30/02 I now have over 9,000 miles on it! Like my girl, I love to shagg her everytime I see her.

| Problems: Currently no real problems. FI light will occasionally go on, but resets immediately when the bike is shut off and restarted; it's done this periodically since installing the PC | |||
|
Comments:
Have the bike pretty well sorted now. The T.R.E. and PC have dramatically improved throttle response and rideability, and the braided brake lines have really firmed up the feel of the front brakes. I had the opportunity to ride Gerald Martin's unmodified 2000 bike recently, and we both agreed the differences were really noticeable. The 16 tooth sprocket also made a major difference in around town rideability, and has the benefit of being dirt cheap. I would recommend all these mods strongly. Very happy with the bike at present, and don't plan any further mods except for possible changing to a double bubble screen

| Problems: As usual rotary damper screws handling. About to purchase Ohlins replacement to sort rear end when dealer informs me that the frame has cracked at rotary mounting. Seems this is a big problem with TL's. Amazingly the dealer din't seem to know !! Check yours out as this failure can hurt. Suzuki agreed to replace frame incl labour but not rotary damper. | |||
|
Comments:
Great bike just a pity about all the design faults. Amazing that Suzuki got away with multiple frame failures without doing an official recall. Vehicle Inspectorate apparently very concerned. Spoke to chap who developed ex race bike with 140bhp and Ohlins suspension which ate R1s for breakfast. Anybody else with warranty issues re frame replacement, please email.

| Accessories: Carbon rear hugger including chain cover. Carbon MIG slip-ons (great sound :-) Smoked front window shield (shorter than original part) | |||
| Modifications: 180 rear tire MEZ1 gives better handling than the 190. 30/3/99: Superbike handlebar transformation kit (Spiegler bars and fork bridge, needs repositioning of the steering damper and needs other mirrors aswell as cutting off part of the front fairing upper part. The more upright riding position gives much better control over your wheelies!. Braided steel brake lines from Spiegler. Twin spark plugs. 12/7/99: Replaced 17" countershaft sprocket with a 16" and had fuel injection system sychronised. Makes big difference, 3-4k stumbles are gone now. 5/2001: Got rid of the original front fairing and mounted a small carbon bi-halogen front cover from UFO (used for enduro bikes). Kellerman turn signals mounted on handlebar ends. Cut off tail part with a dremel. Added special passenser seat cover which is lower than the standard ugly Suzuki ducktail. Took off the complete fairing and added stainless steel shielding for all waterhoses. Braided stainless brakelines, added LSL steering damper instead of the harsh original part. Replaced original with a 16 tooth front sprocket, bike picks up better and lifts off the frontwheel easier now. Added new Moto-Master rear disc which saves 52% of the weight copared to the original brake disc. | |||
| Problems: Plugs were fouled at 9600km. Gas in oil altough all the factory mods were made! No other problems since then. MEZ1 180 rear tire (street compound) lasted 4000 kms. Factory suspension settings are very insensible and slow you down on bumpy twisty roads. Does anyone have positive experience with other settings for a 190lbs rider? What about other fork springs and the Ohlins rear damper unit? | |||
|
Comments:
Definitely an awsome bike. Love it! Can't get that grin off my face when riding it. And a wheeliemonster too! OOPS - BIKE CRASHED ON 31/5/2001 when pulling a wheelie! Crack in aluminium frame!

| Problems: Got a graves clutch cover to fix oil weep and it looks good and NO oil leaking! Replaced the clutch springs with barnett while I was in there Kinda stiff pull but alot better feel and real good lock up...Lost the clutch the other day (18,000 miles) found out it was the clutch release mechanism, the arm that attaches to the cable sheared right off. Not sure if the Barrnett clutch springs had anything to do with that one. New one cost me $43 not a bad fix... Clutch finally went around 24k miles, bought Suzuki clutch, all better. 28k miles- BLOWN MOTOR!!!! AAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! I really don't know what the hell happened, i was being easy on her and she started making a grinding noise then it sounded like a blender then the rear tire locked up and spit out a river of oil. Managed to keep it sticky side down, but the engine is FUBAR. Purchased 98 TL-S motor with 8k for a grand, it's being installed as I type. Went ahead and went 2 teeth up on the rear sprocket, cant wait to get it back... | |||

Comments:
Man, I friggin' LOVE this bike!!! Started on a EX500, then went to a RF900R, the RF had NOTHING on this(well, okay, the top end was better on the RF. But how often do I go over 160mph on the street) It's a shame the motor went but I'll have her back soon. Anxious to experience the new powerband with the sprocket change.

| Modifications: Extracted fork compression adjuster screws and slightly tappered end of pin to gain lineal adjustment. Cut 25mm off stand and add larger foot Bridgestone 180 rear 010 summer 020 winter 101 front all year round | |||
| Problems: Slipping clutch (waranty).Dowel on compression screw adjuster on folk leg didn't stop screw adjuster in the end of travel and damaged thread. Suzuki didn't want to help, only supplied second hand fork leg to retrieve screw. Check dowels are flush with fork leg. (Disgusted with suzuki's responce)Frame is about to be replaced under warranty because rotory shock mounts are cracked (needs mounting checked for free play and shimmed if needed so bolts don't distort and break mount) | |||

Comments:
Bt56-SS tyres improved handling in the twisty stuff, good milage.Fuel economy up to 20 klms/litre. Tingate handle bars great on the hands, chrome and only $110A 31-12-2000 Had a flat rear tyre and a head on crash with Honda CRV, Broke my right leg 12 times or more trashed the knee , 45 bend in my back. don't try this at home kids.Used to love doing wheelies in 3RD or 4th at 140-160kph over top of hills best touchdown was 130kph to 190kph in 3rd gear.If I could ride I would still be on the TLS it a good bike. I set suspension sag to 25-30mm with rider on 5wt oil forks wind rebound onthe rear up all the way keep compression backed off to match the feeling of the forks when you hit bumps. these settings worked for me you might like them diffrent

BEST BIKE YET OWNED FOR ROAD AND FUN
| |||
| For Sale: Bike for sale £2600 or sensible offer -LET'S FACE IT THIS IS PRETTY CHEAP, IT'S CLEAN! This is a high mileage bike but runs well and has full service history and has never been crashed or rebuilt, owned by two sensible professionals (ahem) all recalls, UK bike, Datatagged, new chain and sprockets, fork seals and rear tyre (BT 010), also some spares, footrests for LHS including gear lever, swinging arm, hugger, clutch lever, ECU - this is I think a 110 HP Japanese one, standard rear spring, rotary damper, rear brake cylinder hose and caliper, other bits and bobs. selling it to buy something else, maybe a mistake but after 4 and a half years a change would be good. 4 Cylinder sacrilege???? | |||
