Comments:
It's a very fun bike to ride. Will be getting J-E 12/1 piston soon. Should increase the H.P. to 125 As of 4/10/99 I'm still waiting for Simi Valley Cycle Simi Ca. to finish my bike. It has now been there for 26 days.. Still waiting. DO NOT TAKE YOUR BIKE THERE !!!4/14/99 28 days later I got my bike back from Simi Valley Cycles. It won't idle below 1500 r.p.m. 4/15/99 took bike to Factor Performace Center (805)639-0200)next day they are looking for the problem. Bike runs so lean that the pipes turn red.. Simi Cycles just thur everything back together. Hoses where off, bolts are lose and stripped. Engine still had dirt on it, but yet they said they put new gaskets set. Shitty Company.

Modifications: Front brakes, and the Australasian rear chainguard got dumped in favour of a U.S. spec one. Standard front sprocket got geared down from 17 to 16. Brand new cluch cover, basket and plates. Kerker cans
Problems: Under Suzuki warrenty: Steering dampner, New '02' Ecu, 2nd generation tank. The major problem I have now is that the motor is running cold, but I think that is because of the RGV thermostat. will be changed soon (this was the cause and has been fixed now, just see the dealer). little oil weeping out of the hole below the water pump. And one of the bolts holding the rotary damper to the frame made its way lose and out, this cause some anxious moments coming down the highway at a little bit more than the legal limit.
Comments:
THE most kick-ass piece of machinery that I have ridden on the road ever. Ride hard and have fun. If anyone out there has a good long term fix to stop the rear seat cowl from scratching the paint and also staying on (I heard a few have been knowen to pop off in mid-flight). Let me know, please. Cheers

Problems: The usual stumbles...my dealer here in Japan cannot seem to locate the updated ECU for the Canadian version. Stumbles arent that bad, so I won't press the issue. Have the oil leak, just a small one. Otherwise remarkably problem free. Power Commander has solved the stumbles and smoothed out the powerband.
Comments:
Currently in the USAF and live in Japan. We have an active riding club on our base and ride all over Northern Japan. I have the Canadian version and plan to take it back to the States when I move. The Two Brothers pipes are way cool, but very loud.

Comments:
All in all a great bike! Handling of a 250 with all that torque Mmmmmm! Grab rail should have come as standard. £102 (UKP) from Suzuki when an NWS cost £ 39 (UKP) !!!!!! This bike gets better and better. It's great. I'm too much of a wuss to really exploit it or pull serious wheelies. Love it! Needs some new tyres now!

A bit of a story first, this is my second TL in 12 months,I had my first one for about 6 months and about 10000km, I stopped for a red light and a woman ran into the back of me I hit the windscreen and over the top of the car, a few bruises and one written off TL, full replacement insurance from SWANN INSURANCE and I had a new black TL1000SW in 3 weeks and 2 days wonderful,I love the TL beautiful power love the wheelies, great handling, I like the handling of mine of the floor, and I ride it hard everyday, a couple of small things if you want to ride it hard be prepared to spend money on rear tyres and fuel, i average 12km/l and about 2500km out of a rear tyre ONLY ONE THING IM PISSED OFF WITH IS SUZUKI AUSTRALIA LACK OF INTEREST IN SUPPLING PARTS IN A REASONABLE TIME FRAME 5 WEEKS TO SOURCE A CAMSHAFT, I IMPORT PARTS FROM JAPAN FOR OTHER MAKES OF VEHICLES IT TAKES FOUR DAYS NOT FIVE WEEKS BLOODY USELESS, IN MY TRADE IF I TOLD ONE OF MY CLIENTS THAT IT WOULD BE THAT LONG BEFORE WE EVEN SAW THE PARTS IM SURE I WOULD NOT SEETHAT CUSTOMER AGAIN, IN THIS DAY AND AGE OF TECHNOLOGY AND IN A WORLD THATS GETTING SMALLER AND SMALLER EVERYDAY, IT AMASES ME THAT THIS STILL GOES ON, BUT I GUESS WHEN YOU HAVE CAPTIVE MARKET YOU CAN TREAT THEM AS YOU LIKE IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN RETURN BUSSINESS.. THATS THE ONLY REAL THING THAT SPOILS IT. I AM AT ABOUT THE STAGE OF SAYING TO THEM STUFF THE MONEY JUST SELL THE THING AND I WILL BUY SOMETHING ELSE, I DONT WANT TO BECAUSE I LOVE WHAT A TL1000 DOES FOR ME BUT I HAVE AND AM LOSING FAITH IN SUZUKIS COMMITTMENT TO PRODUCT BACKUP, I WILL NOT,UNLESS SOME AMENDS ARE MADE EVER BUY ANOTHER SUZUKI WHICH IS SHAME AS ANOTHER TL1000S WAS ON THE CARDS FOR LATER THIS YEAR TRADE IN TIME AT ABOUT 10000KM, BUT WHAT DO YOU DO, I GUESS SOME PEOPLE WILL JUST ACCEPT THATS HOW IT IS (LIKE BLOODY HELL)

Modifications: Nothing at present, but after reading this site for hours last nite, I think I know what a want and where to start. Thanks to all!!! 3/8/99 Polished frame and removed decals. Finally cut off rear fender and removed cargo hooks, very clean looking now. YES!!! I decided to keep it. 3/11/99 ordered Power Commander II, first batch due out to customer mid April.
Problems: Cluth slipping some, not alot of punch at alttiude, above 9000 ft. 3/8/99 keeping the front down. 3/12/99 bike is back from shop after 3 days, all recalls fixed, new clutch, throttle position synch, air bleed screws adjusted. Have not found any problems.
Comments:
After a year of riding the bike I have mixed feelings, great for wheelies, but getting dropped by the R1's, GSXR's and RR's in the area. Would like to try some ideas from other riders on this site to see if performance would increase. Again thanks to all!! 3/8/99 Question to all: Some info on setting up suspension. I'm 6'3 and 220 in leathers. How do I go about setting up the susp?. I would like trying in move the forks up 5-8mm, but am lost else where. Please help!!!! 3/12/99 Thanks to DANATERRI1 I think I've got the suspension pretty well set. 3/23/99 had RS-3 full system on order, but Erico motorsports in Denver, CO had a set of 1 week old RS-3 slip-ons. I bought the slip-ons and a very good used MEZ-1 tire for $200.00. They also had a set of 2 Bros carbon slip-ons for $200.00. Not a bad deal if I must say so. Check out there Web site.

Modifications: NONE AT THIS TIME.
Problems: BOUGHT THE BIKE ON 111398. ON 111398 TOOK IN TO THE LOCAL DEALER BECAUSE OIL WAS LEAKING OUT OF THE RIGHT SIDE. THIS IS TYPICAL ACCORDING TO WHAT I HAVE READ ON THIS WEB PAGE. THE PREVIOUS OWNER DID HAVE THE NEW COMPUTER INSTALLED BUT BEYOND THAT THIS BIKE IS AS IT WAS OFF THE SHOW FLOOR. 032499, OIL STILL LEAKING OUT OF RIGHT SIDE CLUTCH COVER. WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO SHOP LAST TIME THEY STATED THEY HAD TO MACHINE THE METAL INSERTS BECAUSE THEY WERE TOO LONG. ANYBODY KNOW OF AFTER MARKET METAL CLUTCH COVERS. THIS WHOLE PLASTIC CLUTCH COVER THING IS A CLUSTER F---. TAKING IT BACK IN TO THE SHOP TO HAVE IT REWORKED.
Comments:
THIS PAGE HAS BEEN EXTREMELY HELPFUL IN REDUCING THE STRESS CAUSED BY A BIKE THAT LEAKES OIL WITH ONLY 440 MILES ON IT. 021499-HAD FUEL TANK REPLACED BECAUSE OF RECALL. IT IS STILL SNOWY OUT SO I GO TO THE STORAGE FACILITY AND DREAM ABOUT THE DAY THE SNOW GOES AWAY. ON 032499 MY BROTHER AND I PUT THE FENDER ELIMINATOR KIT AND TANK BRA ON. THEY BOTH LOOK OUTSTANDING. THE ONLY COMPLAINT IS THE EXPOSED WIRES FOR THE LICENSE PLATE LIGHT ARE VISIBLE AND LOOK TACKY. SO THAT PART OF THE KIT WAS LEFT OFF. THE REAR OF THE BIKE REALLY LOOKS CLEAN AND THE VIEW OF THE REAR TIRE IS A BEAUTIFUL SITE. AFTER INSTALLING THESE TWO MODS A FRIEND TOOK IT OUT FOR A SPIN. HE WAS IMPRESSED. I WASN'T, AS THE LEAK AROUND THE RIGHT SIDE CLUTCH COVER WAS LEAKING AGAIN. THE BIKE NOW HAS 465 MILES ON IT. IT HAD 440 MILES WHEN IT WAS PURCHASED. I HAVE RIDDEN ABOUT 15 OF THE 25 MILES THE BIKE HAS BEEN RIDDEN SINCE I BOUGHT IT. 10 OF THOSE MILES HAVE BEEN TO THE SHOP FOR THE OIL LEAK. SO, AS ALL YOU MATHMATICIANS OUT THERE CAN SEE, I HAVE RIDDEN THE BIKE ABOUT 5 MILES FOR FUN. IT CAN ONLY GET BETTER, DON'T YOU AGREE.

Goodridge Kevlar Brake lines front and rear. Polished rear exaust hangers, drilled and polished ankle guards, polished brake and shift levers ( makes a huge difference in control assemblys) dremeled rear fender MANY THANKS TO ADAM MILLER(SEE ELSEWHERE IN REGISTRY)HIS PICTURES GAVE A GOOD STARTING POINT ALTHOUGH I'VE CUT MORE OFF(SMALL EXTENTIONS THAT GO UNDER FRAME TUBES), made bracket for turn signals ($5.00 including metal and stainless hardware), turn license plate holder upside down and mount to back of underseat storage, mount blinker bracket above( you'll waste your money buying Competition Werkes kit, seems like Suzuki designed rear fender to be chopped )Pro-Tekk master cylinder covers(trick and cheap $24.99 apiece) Waiting for PCII release in early april, then fuel system will be sorted.
Problems: Stumbles, fixed by dealer, Yoshi system brought them back. Oil out of water pump weep hole, two trys at dealer to fix OK. Clutch cover leakage, caused by dealer overtightening bolts( cover is plastic so be careful) dealer replaced cover. Gas in Oil ( just noticed 2-10-99 will keep eye on when riding season resumes)fouled plugs will change to 8's. Right front fork leak, scratched slider, dealer (Great Lakes Motorsports) would not replace under warranty, haven't been back to them since.Front End clunk, I think I've found that cooling fan is making noise, remove from bike and shake up and down, fan clunks in housing, sound just like noise when riding.
Comments:
Thank God my Katana was stolen (well not really, terrible feeling).THIS BIKE ROCKS. If anyone needs OEM parts best place is Midwest Action Cycle, their sevice is the best and the prices are about 35% cheaper than dealer (delivery to MI-2days). Best place for Yoshi is Waynesville Cycle Center, they sell at THEIR cost. UPDATE 3-6-99 YOSHIMURA RULES Decided to fix Right side pipe (because of previous get off) and ordered parts from YOSHI, They didn't fit, YOSHI said they had a mid-run production change and because of my previous problem during original fitting (16 months ago) they are sending me a WHOLE NEW SYSTEM F.O.C. !!! These guys stand behind their product!!! INIGO OFFERS AN AWESOME SYSTEM, GREAT PREFORMANCE GAIN AND MEAN LOW RUMBLE. 207GP ARE THE BEST TIRE MADE FOR TRACTION, BUT THE DON'T LAST ON THE STREET I GOT ABOUT 2,300 MILES ON THE 207GP AND THERE EXEPENSIVE BUT WORTH EVERY PENNY. I'M WAITNG FOR MY DYNO JET POWER COMMANDER II THEN I'M GOING TO DO SOME AIR BOX MODS, IF ANYONE HAS ANY HINTS ON THE AIR BOX PLEASE E-MAIL ME

Location: UK -- Leeds
Experience: 1
Bikes Owned: 1
Accessories: lower fairing, carbon hugger, cans, UK headlight.
Modifications: Micron carbon cans and MH racing setup
Problems: ECU curing surging and new tank has stopped petrol leakage. Do not know whether to have the rear damper worked on or replaced for an ohlins unit. Does anyone have any comments on what they have had done, as they would be greatly appreciated. Problems with the lower fairing bottoming out when on its side.
Comments:
MZ3's replaced by BT56s. Slightly less sticky and need warming but last alot longer. Has anyone fitted lighter wheels, if so are they worth it.How does dropping the yokes affect the handling? Ace wheelies at 60 in second. The engine is just fantastic, the midrange gets you every time. The bike is such a handful & when cornering is really skittish, especially on bumps, it has such a character and needs alot of respect. It takes a long time to get to know the bike, but when you do, the results are really worth it. The cans have made a big difference, especially with throttle response and the sound as just F@*king ace. It makes std cans on CBRs etc sound like a hair dryer! 12 points/suspended ban this year have taken the edge off the fun though!
For Sale: Micron Carbon Race Cans, 6 months old, £260.

Location: USA (NorthEast) -- Dayton, Ohio
Experience: 16
Bikes Owned: 3
Accessories: 1/2 Suzuki TL tank bra. Solo Seat always unless she looks really good.
Modifications: Lockhart Phillips carbon fluid covers. Lockhart Phillips smoke speedscreen. Skins brake/clutch covers, Lockhart Phillips Flush Mount II lights. LP Speed screen (Smoke). In the process of polishing the entire frame and rims --- Looking for Lockhart lower fairing
Problems: None besides the recalled Gas tank. The other recalls were done by the time I bought it from the dealer (I Hope). Better go to dealer and make sure he didn't try to stiff me. Fried the plugs once already, but dealer took care of that. Also had problems with factory suspension setting (too soft). Any solutions to the "hard to start when cold problem"
Comments:
Hell of BIKE!!!!! Have ridden everything from CBR 900s to Yahama R1 and they can't touch this Big Dogg. If you have one, keep it. If you're looking, get one. Can't wait for a little sun then I'm off to the races.
