Comments:
7/25/01:My very 1st bike, I have it for a year. It's fun but probably not an ideal 1st bike after test riding my coworker's F4i (so much smoother on the throttle). A lot of people said the seating position is comfortable, I would not say it's bad but the handle bar reach is better on the F4i even the 929. I am 6' btw. Some hesitation on the engine when it's new, once broken-in and after 2000+ miles and Mobil 1 Motorcycle synthetic oil, the bike runs very smooth. Never experienced any problem except under inflated front tire, I thought I did not have to bother checking the tire pressure like the manual says, but you'll be surprise how much the pressure is off from the recommended setting, I check it once a month now. 10/10/01:I never used the Choke anymore after 3600 miles. Just installed Galfer SS front brake lines myself. Problems: you have to grind the stub that coming from the brake unit in the handle bar since the banjo did not have enough bend/angle to fit. I did it using dremel tool. The Russell SpeedBleeder I bought with the lines for some reason did not work at all when I bleeded the brake fluid. I used the original brake nipples instead. It wasn't as bad as I though doing it with the OEM brake nipples. The brake lever travel is much improved but not the braking itself. I think I have to replace the pads too. The manual from Haynes is really helpful though. Will do the clutch and rear brake lines this weekend. 11/12/01: Changed the brake pads over the weekend. Ferodo CP911* is awesome, braking improves way much better. The initial bite is so controllable and the grip is more proportional compared to OEM pads which are more like on (grip) or off (no grip) after getting the SS brake lines. One-finger braking is possible. I did not glass-bead the rotor as it is suggested by Ferodo, so far it seems fine. The weather is getting cooler and you do have to use the Choke to warm up the bike.

Experience: 34yrs exp. Ex pro desert racer, and motocross.
Bikes Owned: 18
Accessories: Jardine high pipes "awesome sound", Jet kit, K&N filter "sucks in the rain", Pyramid lower fairng, carbon tank protector, hugger, under fender cowling.
Modifications: Cut the ugly licence plate mount of and moved the plate up as far as possible. Removed the rear blinkers and replaced them with smaller ones. I removed all the smog stuff. Added the lower fairng from Pyramid Plastics. This was super easy. The color matched perectly. The fit is excellent. All the Pyramid products are very high quality and fit great.
Problems: I had the K&N filter on the bike until one day I was suprised by the weather. About 15min into the rain my bike started to miss, alot. Then it quit all together. Once I stopped the heat from the engine dryied out the water, I guess. This went on for about 30 miles, stopping every 5 miles or so. It turns out that the K&N filter eliminates the OEM baffling that prevents water from entering the carb. Needless to say I ditched the filter.
Comments:
I really like the bike. Its fun, comfortable to ride, and has tons of torque. I wish Honda would give the bike a makeover. Its dual headlights and an up to date body. The motor could use a bit more top end too. The gas tank is too small. 4.8 gals would be better. The spedo is hard to read. I have been looking at buying a Ducti 999 to replace my VTR. However I am a bit concerned with the maintence and parts availability. Its hard to beat a Honda.........:)6/03/03 I decided not go with the Duck. Yesterday I test rode an RC51. Cool bike. Loved the power. I just cant get over the appearance of the bike. It seems a little out dated. Has anyone herd anything about Honda revamping the VTR?

Accessories: Sports Rack, Hugger, Front Mudguard Extender, Micron Race Cans, Dynojet Kit, K&N Filter, Sola Alarm, Datatag. BT 57 on rear.
Modifications: Removed seat hooks much easier to get off now.
Problems: No real problems but............ Motor started to get noisy at 2000 miles between idle and 2000 rpm. Noise was intermittent and sounded to be coming from rear cylinder / clutch area. Repaired the problem myself don't trust dealers mine is a parallel anyway. Replaced primary drive sub gear damper springs (~£5) old ones looked okay but were noticably less stiff than the new ones. Motor sounds wonderful now. Don't think running with noise is a problem as they are only anti-chatter springs (less friction more power with weak springs !). I think the noise is intermittent due to the friction washer located between the primary drive and sub-gears and sounds worse than it really is. So all you out there who think its valve noise / piston slap / camchains....... I beg to differ. Spit back virtually gone with mileage and Dyno jet kit. MPG was poor but now has leveled out of at 45 MPG ( with a bigger tank would be no problem).
Comments:
Used to have a Fireblade which think is the better all-round bike but the Firestorm is the bike for me as it is far more fun to ride. Handling and torque are second to none. I'm sure the next Firestorm will be perfect. Where can I buy GenMar mirror extenders in the UK ? BT57 on rear works very well with standard Dunlop 204 on front.

Comments:
What a bike! I had two 900rr's93&96 before this and the vtr is alot more fun until you try to go mach1. I didn't know a bike could have this much torque. Not thrilled with the suspension, will probably go with aftermarket shock and maybe the 900rr fork tube swap. First drilled stock baffles (nice sound),then with the twobros pipes to try and boost power. The filliment wound cans look awsome and sound great (got lots of looks in daytona).Went with dynojet kit 180/185 mains needles 4th from top and mixture screws at about 3 1/4 out. First had it at 2 1/2 and seemed very lean, turned them out and it made a huge improvment mid-topend but seems to stumble off idle now? any suggestions? I am running it on the dyno fri. I guess I will see then. Finally ran it on the dyno, It peaked at 102.8hp@9250rpm and 65.4ft-lb@7000rpm. I had hoped for a little more but from the dyno the jetting looks pretty close. I am going to try the k&n and blocking off the pair system next.

Problems: Front tire is cupping badly, has anyone tried to warranty these pos's? Guy that owned the bike before me put a 190 207 Dunlop on the rear and it seems too wide bike wallows in corners when leaned all the way over. Also the mirrors are a waste of time, does anyone at the factory even look at that when they design a bike?
Comments:
I love this motorcycle! I have owned a few bikes over the years, but this is the best all around machine I have ever ridden. I am planning on replacing the stock exhaust soon with something (any suggestions?)Also I would like to move the handle bar postion up just about 1/2" to 3/4". In addition after reading this list I think I am going to replace the front springs with something heavier.
For Sale: Are you crazy? I will sell it to you for just slightly more than what a new one would cost.

Powerbronze AirFlow screen (smoked). Mini rear indicators (to allow fitting of Oxford Sports Panniers). Famsa magnetic tank bag.
Modifications: Suspension modded by MH Racing : stiffer front springs plus damping mods, lighter rear spring on standard shock. Excellent ! No more bottoming-out forks, and no more jolts through the rear suspension. Feels more 'planted' when braking and turning.
Problems: Apart from the suspension, small tank, hard pillion seat, and low bars, nothing to speak of. Oh, and it would cost double to fit noisy cans...
Comments:
Great bike for solo rides / track days etc, incredible engine, but not very practical for long trips. So I've traded it in for a VFR800.

My first sportbike, also my first twin. This is a bike that grows on you as your riding abilities improve. Not the fastest but bloody fast enough and very rewarding. This is my first sport bike. Always rode motocrossers for 20+ years. Had a GS550 and a V65 magna back in California. My good friend has a Ducatti 996 and he can't believe how much fun this bike is. Now that I've jetted it the throttle response is wonderful, no more backfiring and it's just as fast as Ducatti 996 and the kicker is you can ride it all day. My girlfriend and daughter love to ride on back (NOT LIKE THE $16,000 DUCATTI)
